The Greenbrier Family YMCA is one of my favorite places to work out! It's affordable, which is a win because I feel like many gyms charge ridiculous prices these days. But here, you get so much for what you pay! They have tons of classes at a variety of times. My go-to's are kettlebells and Tabata--they're such killer workouts but in the best way. One of the things I love most is that the instructors actually do the workouts with you, which is so motivating. Plus, they're super helpful if you need modifications--they just want you to feel good and do your best. And even though this is one of the smaller YMCAs, the vibe is always friendly and welcoming. Just a heads-up, though--weekend classes can get pretty packed, so I recommend showing up early if you want to grab a good spot!I look forward to my workouts here, and it's such a great community. Whether you're a total fitness newbie or a gym rat, there's something here for everyone.

Love a good indoor and outdoor option for pools and this YMCA in Chesapeake has both. The outdoor swimming pool and play area is seasonal. This Greenbriar Y was at one time a secondary pool my son swam at when bubbled in the Winter. I have found it to be overall clean with nice staff. Parking is typically never an issue. The lot is kept clean. Tide Swimming offers a club swimming schedule at this location. The facility offers a variety of programs for its members. I am only familiar with aquatics. The indoor six lane 25 yard pool is well maintained and chlorinated properly. Guards are always on duty and often are young, but professional. Locker rooms are good size and spic and span. The outdoor pool is a big hit in the Summer. There is a fun splash area for toddlers as well as a sprinkler area that's fun. It's showing it's age. but well maintained and family friendly. 3.5 rounding down.

I haven't officially worked out here yet but I can talk about the pool! When your a member of the Y you can use all Hampton Roads YMCA's so that is how I got in. This pool has a pelican for the kids to slide down and if you visit each Y you will see each Y has a different slide. This pool offers a bbq area with grills available for the members use which is not offered everywhere (hint, hint)! The wading pool or little kid pool is surrounded by a fence. No little ones will get out of here unless they are ninjas. I have seen 1 -2 lifeguards in this section and they play with the kids. My kids love this. The big pool is divided into lanes and the shallow side has steps that get you into about 3 foot of water. There is also a splash area for kids to run, sit and play in while water squirter them from various items, and directions. Unlike a few of the other locations this pool does not have a waterslide.

I've been a member of the YMCA in our area for nearly all of my life. In the last 10 years, though, I've primarily only attended the Greenbrier Family location. The facility is nearly always kept in great shape. While upgrades are not something seen very often, the equipment on hand is maintained in good working order. There are some pieces that would be nice, but you have to understand it is a YMCA.The locker rooms, which were recently renovated, are usually always clean with plenty of lockers and space. The indoor pool can get crowded at times, especially during swim season, as there are teams in the morning and evening. Evening is especially difficult. A definite detractor. If you're looking for a good facility that can provide you with just about everything you need, this YMCA is a go to.

I've enjoyed going to this Ymca for the past few years. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. I enjoy going to group classes such as step interval and group power. The instructors always introduce themselves especially when they see a new member in their class and are always welcome to comments and concerns. All the instructors are very nice and motivational. My favorite instructors are Theresa, Jessica, and Susan. Gym equipment always seem to be update as well. They have a well maintained indoor and outdoor pool. Coffee and tea are always complimentary in the lobby. My daughter has had a birthday pool party here a few years ago and the staff was very helpful. She took swim lessons and benefited from them as well. I go to other Ymca's in the Hampton Roads area too but I like the Greenbrier family location so much that I call this YMCA my Y.

I was looking for an indoor pool and decided to check this place out. The three stars is for their customer service. I walked in and there were three staff members standing around the main front desk. No one made eye contact with me or greeted me. I proceeded to walk up to the front desk, I literally stood in front of them and they still didn't say anything until I asked if I could see the pool. One of the staff's name was Kirsten, she showed me the pool and I signed up because I needed a pool. I also told her I only wanted my membership for a month and I also filled out a cancellation form that same day. But the next month I get charged and it took them two weeks to refund me my money. Throughout the month, the staff members were just rude and not attentive and always joking around. I only remember seeing the young male greet me. The indoor pool was excellent and the lifeguards were very attentive and helpful when I needed something. Showers and locker rooms were great.

I wanted to get in shape after I came back from deployment so I joined the ymca. I work out about every 2 days but my husband and son go about every day. This ymca is amazing. It literally has everything you need here. To start they have childcare so my 6yr old can come too for 2hrs each day and he loves it. He actually asks to go to the gym so he can play in the center lol. Sometimes when I come during non childcare hours I have my 6yr old there too (he's calm and quiet). They have an outdoor and indoor pool with at least 3 life guards at any given time watching every one so that is a safety plus. The pool is nice but it would be cool if they added a diving board but still very nice. Alot of times the kiddy pool is closed but they have a nice splash pad area so I don't have to be in the pool all the time with my youngest son. The locker room rocks! It has plenty of showers and changing areas, a weight scale and a sauna. I go to the sauna at each visit and it's never more than one other person in there. The wellness area has two weight areas and loads of weight machines. There are about 15 treadmills and half of them have tvs attached which is great and allows me to be distracted when I run. They have a small stretching room but it's not really used and most people stretch on the floor. The staff keeps the sanitary wipes holder full and they walk around constantly wiping all of the equipment off. There are several classes to take from mixed fit, to yoga to spin classes. I've taken most of them and they are excellent. They also have water aerobics classes too. This is a fantastic family gym that I recommend anyone can be apart of and not feel intimidated like most gyms.

I have been to this particular YMCA only two times, and both times it's been because of the outdoor pool. So, this review is for the outdoor pool and locker rooms. I love coming to the outdoor pool because it's not too busy. There is plenty of shaded area for when you've had enough sun and plenty of sunbathing area. There's a spray area to the side for the little ones and little pool area of the little ones as well. The only thing I do not like is the locker room outside. There's really no area to change in, and the floor is always wet and kind of dirty. The locker room inside the building is nice, however, I feel it could use some renovating as the rest of the faculty could. I will update my review as soon as I "test out" the rest of the facilities!

Wanted to try this location out for swimming lessons and yesterday was the first day. I missed it because my keys got locked in the car and when I called to ask the aquatics director if we could attend the next session OR another session later in the week to make up for it she told me she only does make ups for extenuating circumstances such as death to which I replied," my god so the only way I could be accommodated is if death hit me?" Needless to say I didn't get to make yesterday up but then when we came this morning lessons were outside well it's 69 degrees with a slight breeze and it also rained earlier so all the seats outside were wet and many parents had to stand. I don't know about anyone else but if it's not 80 degrees or more the pool is too chilly for me and I'm confused about why the lessons weren't held inside. So far I am disappointed will update at the end of the week.

I love this YMCA and have been an active member since middle school, 14 years!! Staff is always changing, I love all of the staff in the weight room area, attentive, friendly and always there to answer questions...looking at you Ms. Y :)!Now for the front desk staff its hit or miss. The night staff is not at all helpful or friendly to be the fist face you see when you come in. Usually they are standing around socializing within their groups, and someone at the back tables will call attention that you are in need of assistance. The daytime and weekend staff are always great!I love the variety of classes and the dedication of the instructors. You can tell that they truly enjoy their job and are not just here to work out and be done with it. I don't go to many other YMCAs but this once definitely feels like family!
