Told about this little out of the way place in Wanchese. Fantastic! If you are looking for a laid back, non-fancy place with great deli foods, this is the place for you.

No sign, deli is upstairs above a marina. Not crowded - perhaps because it's way out of the way! Serves boars head meats. Generous sandwiches. Beautiful view. Indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was nice! Very clean. Worth the drive!

An out of the way place at Wanchese harbor. Recommended to us by a local. Believe that locals still call the place Annie's.I got the New England clam chowder. I like adding Texas Pete and black pepper to mine. Not disappointed. Would recommend.Went with the Cuban sandwich. Not a connoisseur of Cubans, but I did enjoy it and found it filling.Sister in law went with the shrimp salad and enjoyed the freshness. It was light on the onions, which she appreciated.Wife went with the chicken salad. Sorry, but she thinks her mom's chicken salad is better.Inside was clean and the folks were pleasant.I love these kind of places. I have had the chance to travel to many small places in America and I sometimes forget that there are thousands of little towns with local eateries that just serve up good If I could , I would probably give this place 4.75 because my wife liked her mom's chicken salad better.Worth going to see a piece of Americana that still exists today.Would I eat here again? Yes.Would I recommend to family and friends? Yes.

The clam chowder is the best one you will ever eat. The service is great seating may be hard but, only because the food is so good. The ambiance is excellent too you get beautiful view of the boats and the sound. I highly recommend. Five stars is a understatement.

Hole in the wall local joint with tourist somehow finding their way to it. Food was most excellent. We had a Grilled Chicken Salad + BBQ Sandwich with side. If you like the town secret local feel then knock yourself out. Don't come here if your just going to complain that the place is old and whatever. It is what it is and it is not pretending to be something that it's not. I would love to live nearby to sample more of the menu but alas I had to leave.

Surprising hole-in-the wall local restaurant posing as a deli but delivering big plates that are full of flavor, along with a few surprises. There are NO signs so unless you are a "local" you might need a GPS to find it - next to the Thicket Lump Marina and adjacent to Thicket Lump Boat Repair. (The buildings are actually connected so beware of parking near the paint over-spray area.)These complicated directions will get you to a second-floor deli - with no handicap access. Has a moderate menu board plus daily specials. Check the photos I've posted for examples. Limited beer in bottles, one or two wines (served in a tumbler not a wine glass) and fountain drinks.Specifics: We got there mid-service, 1:00 pm on a Saturday (open 11-3 Tue-Sat) and were already out of their shrimp salad and shrimp sandwich. We ordered & enjoyed New England style, cream-base clam chowder that was flavorful and had plenty of onions and potatoes - not too thick but not enough clams; Blackened Drum sandwich on Brioche Bun with slightly peppery traditional seasonings, well cooked & moist fish - unfortunately had a few bones. About four or 5 ounce portion but the bun was double that size. Really good flavor profile. Pork Wrap with corn & black bean salsa and Chipotle dressing. Fresh Tuna Salad sandwich. All sandwiches were appropriately seasoned and not overdressed. They all came with ripple style potato chips. The restaurant ran out of several other specials while we were sitting there enjoying ours. Perhaps it was because they were going to be closed the next two days - Sunday and Monday. Very large salads on regular and specials board.Extremely polite waitstaff and courteous service. Very clean interior seats about 30 people while windy deck seats about 23. Views of the sound are interrupted by buildings but you can see Bodie Island Lighthouse from one angle. Great deal for the price.Call to check daily specials. It's an eclectic menu...and the restaurant gets crowded quickly. Take out available. Could rate 3.5 stars.

What a surprise! We were exploring Roanoke Island and were looking for a good quick lunch. Armed with the name and address we set out. It's confusing only because there is no signage indicating you have a arrived. It's on the second story of the last building on "Thicket Lump" Road. The food, service, interior and folksy atmosphere all provided us with a full tummy and happy experience. I'd head out there again in a minute.

Hidden jewel. Please do not go there so the line doesn't get to long! Had great shrimp salad and chicken salad. Subs looked great as did everything. They use Boars Head so no skimping on the quality.

A bit difficult to find but definitely worth the effort. We had the clam chowder soup and a reuben sandwich. The soup was excellent and the sandwich was one of the best I ever had. It sure doesn't look like a great place from the outside but it is clean and has very nice people inside. We will be making this a standard stop when we are in the area.
