Stay away from this place. I would give negative stars if possible. I stayed 3 nights. We checked into a dirty room. Foot on the carpet, dirty fridge and hair in sink. I let front desk now but next day no house keeping came in. Second day when I ask again, they say "house keeping only comes once, there was a do not disturb sign on my door and I missed my turn" Do I have to wake up early and wait for housekeeping? Also you can't sleep at night because of the loud music noise and food smell coming from bar downstairs. Avoid at all costs.

Black mold In our room! The service person told us " well you get what you pay for here at VA Beach, you can try and sue them if your kids get sick but that cheap Indian bastard will never refund any of your money". I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Do not stay here, walk a block and sleep somewhere else safe and clean. What a piece of junk hotel. Everyone who works there knows it and the staff at the bar adjoining it jokes about it as well. The only people who don't get it are the owners who's attitude are unreal.

Meh. The only redeeming thing about this indoor motel is its proximity to the beach. Each room has a crappy balcony that has a gorgeous view. You are literally right on the beach. But the front door locks and the front desk staff disappear at 11:00pm on the weekdays (and there's no way for a guest to get in without calling and waiting). And the parking lot for the hotel, while not way far away, is about 2 blocks away - which is annoying and inconvenient. The worst part was the noise on the weekends. It sounded like there was a full-scale party happening on my balcony. You can hear every sound from every neighboring restaurant and bar. And I'm not usually one to complain about noise - that's how bad it was.The rooms themselves were meh. Very motel-ish. Rundown and old. Nothing nice or slightly new-ish about them.

I came here with all of my college friends for one night right before our graduation as a final hoorah/pseudo-beach week. We each paid 16 bucks a person to split some rooms between about four people per room (there were fourteen of us in total). While it is extremely obvious that the hotel has not been updated in a long time, it was completely satisfactory for our purposes, which was just to hang out, and not to spend a ton of time in the rooms.Complaints about cleanliness are overstated-- they really weren't so bad, although the pool certainly left something to be desired. But there definitely were no functional locks on the balcony sliding doors, despite helpful signs reminding us to lock the doors before we went to sleep. So that was a little disconcerting. Checkin and checkout hours were also pretty inconvenient, where we had to check out by 10 am, and couldn't check in until 4 pm.Still, there was a refrigerator and microwave in every room, comfortable beds, and ocean views, which was really all we needed.Room Tip: Ice machines are only on the odd-numbered floors!

Its not the best but not the worst either.I have stayed here on 2 occasions for a total of 9 days. The price you pay is to be beachfront, the hotel is average. The room was clean including the bathroom. The beds are very comfy. The balcony is a little dingy but overall ok. You get what you pay for but I would have to say its worth it. When I travel I'm not in the hotel much but when I am I don't need much. Also there is a band that plays at the restaurant downstairs so if you are looking for peace and quiet this is not the place for you.The wifi worked on and off and I was on the 5th floor.I would recommend it as long as you are not looking for a five star hotel.

After reading many of the reviews I was quite skeptical about our reservation here. We just needed a room for one night, which I noticed most hotels in this area either want $200 a night OR a minimum 2 night stay. This hotel met our budget nicely, so we booked without reading any of the reviews. After all, we were trying to book a room for one night during the Patriotic Festival without breaking the bank. Like the other review, we weren't planning on spending a lot of time in our room. The outside appearance of the hotel is average, but nothing that turned us away. The receptionist at the front desk was very welcoming and kind. We checked in quickly and found our way to our room. We were very excited to find a king size bed (we had booked 2 queens, not really for any particular reason), a beautiful ocean view, and a jacuzzi in the suite. I am not sure of the difference in prices for a jacuzzi suite and a regular room, or if there is one, but we were pleasantly surprised with this little luxury. The room was clean and spacious. We enjoyed opening Any negatives? A few. No locks on the sliding doors to the balcony, checkout time, the hallways were not air-conditioned or so it seemed. All in all, very bearable. We will definitely look into staying here again if we are in the area. We really don't frequent VB very often but when we do, Grand Ocean will definitely be an option for us.

I stayed here while traveling on business. I booked through a third party site and the price was pretty decent for the beach on a weekend. The room was pretty clean. The staff was very nice. I would definitely consider staying here again.Calypso, the restaurant attached, has great food with quick service. I ordered the wings and the seafood pasta and was not disappointed.

It's cheap because it's absolutely horrible. If all you need is a place to pass out in a drunken heap then this could possibly work for you - but even then, you'll probably wonder why the floors are mysteriously soaking wet. My biggest gripe with this place is the lack of disclosure about the booming live music coming from the attached bar, Calypso, that plays late into the night. We were on the 8th floor and we could still hear it as if we were being serenaded from our own balcony. Needless to say, our children couldn't sleep. I wish I had done more research and read reviews of the place more extensively before booking. However, I don't feel like I should have to dig to find out that it's impossible to sleep here before 11pm on weeknights/2am on weekends. If you're not bothered by obnoxiously loud crooning and thumping, maybe the broken locks on the patio doors will be enough to convince you that something is wrong here. (There are stickers on the sliding doors telling you to use both locks on the door for your safety - and both were broken). Added bonuses: the entire patio was sticky and the railing wobbled in its place, walking across the (soggy) carpet turned our feet black, the entire place reeked of Axe body spray and cigarette smoke, the pool is more like a puddle, and we found three cigarette burns on one of our comforters. Bottom line, the place is disgusting. Shell out the extra $65 per night and stay at the Hampton next door - which is what we did promptly after spending one night in this place (because we didn't want to fight any further for a refund of our first night's deposit). One plus - the staff was friendly enough. Probably because they felt sorry for schmucks like us.

We got here and our room was disgusting. The fan in the bathroom was not working. The floor had obviously not been vacuumed. The shower barely worked. The noise on the 7th floor was horrendous. Everything is outdated and dirty. The balcony door didn't slide open. The television was not a flat screen as advertised. Our room stank of grilled food and cigarettes all night. Live outdoor music interrupted by loud drunks all night made it impossible to sleep. The staff is somewhat accommodating and fixed the bathroom fan and balcony door, and cleaned, but were generally un-phased by our complaints and only apologized nominally, Making excuses and saying it will be remodeled by the new owners next year. The swimming pool was gross and had a film at the bottom. Literally the ONLY redeeming quality was the view, which was useless since the noise, stink, and overall malaise had already deeply disturbed our psyche. Oh, and everybody smokes on their balconies, leaving empty cans filled w/ cigarette butts on the balconies, even though it is expressly prohibited and staff does nothing. This is a loud, obnoxious, not family friendly dive...with a great view you can't enjoy. We will NEVER even consider this place again no matter who the new owners are.UPDATE: a woman who clearly didn't want to be here today moved us to a room away from the bar. It's clean, the bathroom fan is broken in this one too. Oh and It REAKS of cigarettes, but at least our kids won't get a contact high from the potheads under us at the other room. Getting air freshener trying to make the best of this 8 floors of truck stop.
