Ghent Seafood

I walked into John's shop today and he sold me this crab cake. I went right home and cooked it like he told me to, and I think it was the best thing I have ever put in my mouth. Light and fluffy, perfectly seasoned, so sweet and tender, this is possibly the best meal I've ever had. If you stop by here you must try John's crab cakes!

I bought the most beautiful tuna steak here, excellent quality, super fresh. All it needed was a simple quick sear to medium rare & a little salt & pepper. I look forward to going back to get more of their seafood incl their crab cakes. The staff was very helpful and cut my tuna to order. My #1 place to buy fresh seafood!

This is the best seafood market. He cuts fish to order. He will give you recommended portion sizes, but also consult with you on your order. He will tell you the simplest way to cook any piece of seafood he has. I have used his suggestions multiple times and it always turns out perfectly. I've cooked his salmon, halibut, crab cakes, and rockfish. I will say it is more expensive than the grocery store, however you pay for what you get. The quality is outstanding and he will tell you how long each piece of fish will last in the fridge. He'll even pack it with ice if you have a drive home. Go early, because end of the day it runs out! He has limited hours so check the schedule.

Boy oh boy do we we miss Ghent Seafood! We visited John a few times a week when he was at the old white shack location. It has since before been torn down and they have moved just down the street to their current spot. We unfortunately are not able to frequent Ghent Seafood since our move to Iowa, although it's on of the first stops when we are in town.While visiting some friends in the area for the new year we of course swung by for some delicious seafood. We decided on some salmon and scallops to grill up that evening. The scallops we huge and beautifully sweet and the salmon just as delicious. John always gives great cooking recommendations and will cut everything to order. He even remembered us after being away for 2 years. If you are looking for great seafood Ghent Seafood is really the best stop around!

The seafood is extremely fresh, staff is so helpful and kind. I travel 40 minutes just to get my seafood here.

Called and ordered a 100ct. box of wild Eastern Shore oysters. Was given some great insight on the variety of wild and farmed, and the flavors of each. I love calling a place like this and getting a knowledgeable recommendation. Better still, I was allowed to swing by and pick them up early before they opened. These oysters were traveling up to Maryland with me for a family gathering.The recommendation was spot-on. I went with the wild oysters. These were nice and salty and very fresh. There were numerous clusters so shucking was a little bit of work, but well worth it. We ate most of them raw, and roasted some in the fire pit. Overall very happy, and will be back for more of my fresh seafood needs in the future.

We travel almost 2 hours every week just to pick up our fresh fish! I am very particular about what fish we eat and my husband found this gem of a seafood market. Always fresh and delicious. No fishy smell here pristine and clean. Salmon, grouper, halibut, shrimp, scallops, tuna, swordfish, little necks need I go on! Excellent service. He packages for our travel and it is always perfect when we arrive at home. There is so much more in this little shop wine, ready to eat in the refrigerators, home made noodles, sauces and more! You will not be disappointed.

Best fresh seafood in Norfolk! John is excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable. The seafood is fresh, with good seasonal selections and John will order you pretty much anything, and cut it to specifications.
