The food was delicious. We had the turkey wings dinner. You get a lot of food , it is worth it. We ate two days from these dinners. We eat there again.

This restaurant is "take out" ONLY. Friendly, welcoming, accommodating staff. Not big on "ambiance," but, that's not what anyone is there for; it's the food. Got the single smothered pork chop, with collards and white rice & gravy; next time I'll get the two chops. I could taste the seasoning on the pork chip, through the gravy; they season the meat REALLY good; probably seasoning in the flour on top of the meat. Collards were exceptional; really, really good. So too was the gravy. Rice was "rice."I highly recommend. Just prepare to have someplace to eat it.

When pregnancy cravings hit...WATCH OUT!! My husband and I were out and about and decided to pick up a plate instead of cooking. So, of course it's Yelp to the rescue. :)We decided to try this restaurant based on the reviews of my fellow yelpers. So a few things to know before you venture out here. 1. CASH ONLY2. The strip plaza is very narrow. So be careful if you have a wide car. 3. The portion size is enough for dinner and lunch or for two people to share. 4. Not really a place to sit and eat. It's better to grab and go5. It's definitely a mom and pop restaurant so don't expect the look to be anything else. 6. There is a WAWA and Bank of America on victory Blvd in case you need cash. The restaurant is family owned for 13 years. Ellen (wife) is at the Virginia Bch location and her husband maintains the Portsmouth location. I never got the husbands name but he was very friendly, kind and down to earth. All three of us laughed and joked while he prepared our food. The food was delicious...absolutely delicious. If you're ever in the area or your not in the area and just want really good food (food to comfort the soul), stop in and get a plate. Ellen's is definitely a winner!!

Good Food..not just good soul food. I didnt snap a pic bcuz I was famished and not shame to say, excited to dig in. My first visit to ELLENS was a disappointment. They were closed, it was Sunday. My second time OH BOY!!! Yes , kinda a hole n the wall, let's be clear, but it's a take out. Tasty home cooking, portions. Wish there were rolls or some kind of bread. Next time I will try the Turkey wings and gravy. I had fried chicken with yams,greens string beans and mac n cheese. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS. See ya soon!

Found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. I came prepared with cash as they do not accept cards. The food is amazing, the portions are huge, and the service friendly. The man who was serving treated me like I had been coming there for years and was family. I got the fried chicken, collards, and Mac and cheese. The chicken was fried extra hard, just how I like it, and the seasoning was spot on. This may be a small hole in the wall ( take out only) but the flavor is huge! I will be back!

The food is so delicious. The cabbage, turkey, wings, yams!! Omg the yams are So good. Home cooked black owned business. It's affordable and you really get a lot. I'm very satisfied with this business I highly recommend
