If you're looking for soul food that feels like a warm hug, Ellen's Homestyle & BBQ LLC is the place to go! I ordered the collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and three fried pork chops, and every bite was absolutely delicious.I didn't eat inside it was a to go order. The collard greens were seasoned to perfection. The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and baked to a golden perfection--comfort food at its finest. And those fried pork chops? Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. They were fried just right, without being greasy.The portions were generous, and the food tasted homemade, like it was crafted with love and attention to detail. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better.Ellen's Homestyle & BBQ LLC is now my go-to spot for real homestyle soul food cooking. Highly recommend it for anyone craving a soul food feast!

Every time we visit Virginia this will be our first stop. We were lucky enough to meet Ellen herself when making our order. She was soooo welcoming and kind. Not surprised they have been in business over 15 years. She made us feel like family and the food did not fall short either. Food was filled with flavor and high quality ingredients. They make fresh pies & cakes also. We originally were going to DoorDash but the menu was not all listed so we called and she was so nice over the phone we decided to pick up and glad we did. If you live in Virginia you need to eat there often! If you are visiting Virginia add this to a place to stop for food and you will not regret it.

I stopped by because i was craving soul food. There restaurant looked dark so i thought it was closed. But as i was leaving i saw someone go inside. So i walked in to do a togo order. The menu is limited at this time. So they didn't have all their normal options. I ordered a snack size whiting with potato salad and mac n cheese for about $14. The larger size comes with 2 pieces of fish for a few dollars more. The fish was a good size, but it had alot of bones and it wasn't really seasoned like it normally is. The potato salad was good and a good portion. The mac and cheese was a little bland also. This must have just been an off day. But i did enjoy the hush puppies. The lady at the counter was nice. I'll probably give them another try when they have catfish back on the menu.

Dropped a star because not everyone at home were wild about the flavors, including myself. Not all soul food is prepared the same; so, one should not expect Mississippi style in Virginia, But, hey, close isn't bad & the helpings are hefty ... but, not everything tastes likes Mama's.

Very small but cozy place. I was greeted by great smelling cooking from the kitchen. I then was greeted with a welcoming smile and as I explained that it's my first time, I was asked what I was craving for to which I replied "fish!" I was immediately recommended the catfish - which I used to eat when I was growing up in the Philippines. I could get 2 fillet meal for $14.99 or 1 fillet meal for $13.99 - that extra dollar for another fillet was too hard to pass up!There were many choices for 2 sides that came with the meal but I picked collards and potato salad. The other choices were Cole slaw, rice, cabbage...I sat on the lone chair while waiting for my meal to be prepared. Had to be takeout as there aren't chairs or tables. I was able to admire the unique art pieces and display: including a mirror with colorful plastic utensils as backdropfor the mirror.I got to taste my meal and it was delicious and heart warming - a hug for my tummy: the catfish fillets were perfectly seasoned and not burnt or oily. Collard greens were cooked perfectly and the potato salad was hearty. Can't wait to try the other fish meals. Highly recommend this place!

Ellen's serves the best catfish in town. The seasoning is just right. I can never make it home before opening the container. The lady who takes your order could provide better service though. She's a little rude and rushes people. I have experienced this more than once. Her aside, Ellen's has some of the best food around!

Shout out to China B for putting me on to this spot. I read her review of the day and wanted to check it out for myself. I'm glad I did as I was happy with the customer service and food.Located in a bustling strip mall area that has shared parking; Ellen's is a quaint setting that is welcoming but not able to accommodate everyone. There are a few spaces if you want to dine in but you may be happier ordering ahead or in store for a to go meal.I didn't mind getting my items to go and when I placed my order in person, there wasn't a long wait at all and the ladies working that evening were pleasant and inviting.The catfish I ordered came in filets, was seasoned just right and still sizzling when I snapped a photo of it. The cabbage was good but depending on your flavor profile may need a tad more seasoning. This is common when cooking for large crowds. I wasn't really a fan of the potato salad but got it because I couldn't decide what I wanted as the second side but would be willing to give it a try on another occasion.As with most mom and pop soul food/bbq joints, call ahead so you don't have your mouth tuned for an item and met with disappointment when they run out.Ms. Ellen if you're reading this....I'll be back. I've never had such amazing service before. I was asked how my day was and I stated how it was amazing since I had just passed my certification that I put 6 months into studying. The lady then was so happy for me and came all the way around and give me a warming hug. It felt like I knew her forever and felt so cared for. Not only was the customer service amazing.... The food is spectacular!!!! I will have to go back ASAP to get some more, it's nice because I live so close. I will soon be a regular.
