El Potrillo Mexican Grill

Food was delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Music was entertaining. This place never disappoints

El Potrillo Mexican Grill is located on Lynnhaven Pkwy. near the intersection with Holland Rd. The place is not hard to see from the roadway. My visit here was on January 1, 2025.I've passed by this place several times over the past few years. I think one of the reasons I hadn't been here yet was because every time I would go by, the parking lot never looked too busy. What brought me in to try the place was twofold. I always plan to visit a place that is new to me every year on January 1st. I also had a coupon for there on the back of a receipt from Kroger Marketplace. From the outside, it doesn't stand out from other places in that area.Once coming inside, the place looks bigger than it does from the outside. There were some others in there, but it took them a few minutes to even seat us. Once we were seated, we were able to take a look at the menus and also get some drinks. Chips, Salsa and White Sauce were also brought to the table. After having some time to look over the menu, we decided to first get an appetizer, which was the El Potrillo Dip. Once that came out, we were ready to order the entrees. I decided to go with the Fajita Burrito with Chicken, but not having the tortilla. My mom got the Fajita Burrito with steak.After ordering, we had time to indulge in the El Potrillo Dip. The dip was really good and was a great combination of flavors. We both liked it. About 15-20 minutes or so after ordering, the entrees came to the table. The food looked really good too. After getting into the entrees, it was very filling, even for me without having the tortilla. The taste of the food was really good too.Service was okay overall. It seemed like others were more priority, especially those at the bar. Also, at times it did feel out of place for me because everyone else there, including patrons, were all having conversations in Spanish.Overall, this wasn't a bad first experience for me. The awkward feeling didn't help either when it comes to my experience. The fact that the food was really good though would have me come back and try them again in the future. I've even got another coupon on the back of my latest Kroger Marketplace receipt.

This place is awesome, the atmosphere is great, drinks are cold and delicious, the wait time is not long at all, and the food is top notch! Some of the best in the area.

More than filling! We ate the Fried Chimichangas and the Guad-Especial, and both were more flavorful than I could believe. Often, at other Mexican restaurants, the filling is bland and food relies on the topping--NOT HERE! Seasoned chicken and beef in both my Chimis, and the Guad-special was just as delicious. Also had a Chili relleno that was amply stuffed and just as tasty as everything else. Fast service and a friendly staff, and the decor was nice, with roomy booths and typical Tex-Mex decor (though not too much, so not tacky!)We will definitely add El Portillo to our list of favorites. Looking forward to more treats next visit!

This is our new place to 'indulge' when we've been trying to save money. We love love love the atmosphere- a little bit of context, I am from Texas so I am keen to the Tex mex cuisine and restaurant experience. My fiancé is from New Jersey and didn't even know fajitas came with sides......... ... . SO this place? With their delicious Texas Margarita and fluffy little shrimp- is the ish. Not expensive, but quality and authentic food and people. Our new go-to when we got-to get out because we live the service.

I have been coming to Virginia Beach for almost 40 years. I'm from northern Virginia the restaurant El Potrillo is very homey the waiter was very accommodating very friendly very nice. Service was excellent. The bathrooms were very clean. The food was excellent. I had an enchilada ranchero supreme my friend had an enchilada and my other friend had shrimp tacos. I believe it was all very excellent. The deserts were excellent my friend had a fried Cheesecake and the other friend. We all also had Mexican coffee which was excellent too. We also had fundido de queso y chorizo and being the Virginia Beach area, Mexican restaurant, they serve white salsa which is born in a Virginia Beach Mexican restaurant however, it has been adopted at the many local restaurants there. Try it out it's good. I hope to make it back there.

Came back for more less than a week later. Had the fish ceviche this time. Super fresh (no fishy smell or taste). Generous portion, I added lime and hot sauce to my own taste. I will be living here every weekend!

Decent food and quick. Good service. Opens at 11:30 on Sunday so we go after church services.

Great place!! The food is amazing and the prices are even better. The service is good, is my husband's and I favorite Mexican restaurant.
