This is a whole in the wall in the true sense. Could use a face lift, but the food needs no improvement House made salsa was incredible as well as the Pica de Gallo. Food was generous. Had the beef tacos. Couldn't finish it. Servers were super friendly This looks to be a family run business and I wish business would take me by this place often. Some upscale options near by, but if hungry. Stop here

The food there was good, I had the chicken burrito loco with all the trimmings, no crumbs were left!Service was acceptable and the wait time was decent...overall if you have a taste for some Mexican food, El Maguey is the spot!

Was going from Virginia to NJ and stopped here as it had some good reviews. Food was very good (fajitas and quesadilla) and the service was great and fast. Thought the place was closed when we first saw it but ended up going in and really enjoying it. Would definitely come back.

El Maguey is an institution on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. We always make a point of eating there whenever we are in the area. The pork carnitas in particular are one of my favorites. The chile rellenos are delicious. Plenty of options for kids. Margaritas are just about perfect and not too sweet. Highly recommended.

It would have been a great lunch had service not totally sucked. I could not understand the lady and she definitely messed up my order. On top of that, she seemed stressed at the two or three tables she was servicing. Carnitas dinner for a lunch meal wasn't bad, actually it was decent. But, I did not order it, it came out with two tortillas, no cheese, no sour cream. Kind of a bummer, whatever, we were passing thru, no chance I will ever be back.

Positively delicious! I had the carne asada tacos and they were so good. The flour tortillas are homemade and just like grandmas. A side of rice and beans made the meal perfect. We will be back!

Not bad if this was the only Mexican place in the area and it sure felt like it. We were are on vacation driving down to Cape Charles, Va and needed to stop for lunch and saw this little place on the side of the road. So many places along the road were closed and/or run down. This is what you have in a small coastal town near the Chesapeake Bay. We entered and there was a long counter for take out so I thought oops, let's try another place. Luckily I scanned a little further and saw tables and chairs. We were seated right away and given a menu with close to six pages. We ordered from the lunch option. I noticed the prices were on the cheap side. I ordered the beef quesadilla (#18). Food came relatively quickly and I noticed that my quesadilla was a slightly smaller portion than I am normally used to back in the DC area. It's usually two tortillas with meat and cheese in between. Here, one tortilla. Almost every other Mexican place will also serve a small side salad. Not here, just beans and rice. No problem with beans and rice, I love beans and rice, but my dish was lacking any green vegetables! Not even a little guacamole!Food was fine. Decor was cheapy with plastic chilis strung across the ceiling. Not fancy by any means. Tables and chairs didn't match. Low ceilings and 70's wood paneling. But in a small town where options are few, not bad.

I spent a couple of nights in the area on a business trip and wanted to try this Mexican restaurant. I heard it was good so I wanted to try it myself. I ordered the shrimp, chicken, and steak combination with cheese and could not eat it all. Service is good and the ambience is local flair.
