Years ago I remember going to the Homearama in East Beach when this areas wasn't as built up as it is now (this was probably 12 years ago). Now there are tons of residences and the East Beach community has crown tremendously. With the new complex, The Tern, it has transformed into a more vibrant community of younger folks who love to go to the beach. This means the beach area is thriving and the beach area is lovely. We easily walked across the street and carried our chairs and goodies and found a spot right in the front. As it was labor day weekend it was crowded but everyone was friendly and we all had a good time. There are now more places to eat and shop and have coffee or lunch or brunch here so a day trip or weekend day spent here is much more of an event than it was in the past. I live by Sandbridge and the beach there has a large drop-off due to erosion at the end of each season before replenishment so you really aren't too close to the waves unless you want to be right in the surf - here, you're able to put your chairs right up to the water and have it gently lap up to you. We loved it!

Love East beach, took my son here numerous times during the summer. The sand was hot, the water is gona be water, it's Virginia but it was nice out there. People were genuinely friendly, parking isn't to to bad. We walk the whole beach top to bottom, the water isn't that deep at all. Great place to bring the family.

I love this beach, perfect for a walk either alone or with friends. Quiet and safe and you see familiar faces from the neighborhood.

This beach is so much nicer than it's been in years, perhaps due to COVID and this just being the beginning of the summer. People are friendly, not a lot of rambunctiousness. It's perfect for enjoying some quiet time without a lot of overwhelming tourists around. It seems that most people that come here are local and no one seems to be too loud. It's peaceful and pretty, with lots of room to watch the sunset. The water is still quite chilly and since I haven't been doing much besides working, eating and sleeping, I definitely won't be hanging out in my swimsuit just yet. But it's still just the beginning of summer, so I know hotter days are ahead.

Growing up in Norfolk, I remember hating trips to this beach, then called OV beach. Not for the grumpy dad reasons I resist nowadays but for the climate and lack of care; glass bottles, vagrants and kitty litter sand wasn't very inviting. That's all changed with the family friendly, back filled shores of "East Beach." In some way, nice houses and affluence is good for growing economies and community but in others makes me sad to think about the people who once called OV home that may have been forced out by commerce. One thing is certain, Norfolk is a diverse town that's reflected by beach goers seen on recent trips, including a small Covid friendly get together to celebrate my daughter's hs graduation.Parking can be a chore especially on the weekends. But hey, 8 minutes from door to sand is definitely a plus for my wife and kids. Thanks for the memories, old and new, OV..I mean East Beachz

I've hesitated at writing a review of my favorite Norfolk beach. The sunrises and sunsets are magnificent on this locals beach. However, there is virtually no parking in the neighborhood by design. Although it is a public beach it was never designed for tourist. I have enjoyed the area for over 10 years. I have friends that reside in the East Beach community that has allowed me to park. The area is always clean because residents keep it that way. If you park illegally than expect a resident to report it. Residents of East Beach have a sticker on their car. The beach does not have lifeguards, so swim at your own risk and keep a watchful eye on children. The wave action is light and often you can wade out a 100 feet to sand bars. There are also no restroom/bath houses. My favorite time of the day is twofold sunrise and sunset. East Beach is blessed with how it's situated to catch both and they are often spectacular. The neighborhood has a private pool and tennis courts. There are a few businesses intertwined within the homes. The last phase of construction in front is being finished up. I've never seen a beach neighborhood with such an inspiring display of pride and patriotism. This Mayberry community is a gem in Norfolk and a treasure for its residents.

Not so sure I should be posting this, don't want to have my fav beach in the area overrun with people !I am blessed enough that I live within a mile of the ocean. I've always been a water baby and now I have a fish for a child. We spend a lot of time at the beach during high season swimming and off season with the dogs. East Beach is perfect for both!We technically live closer to OV but drive the extra couple of miles to our preferred area of EB. There are never any huge crowds of people and animals. Rock barriers have adorable mini lagoons perfect for keeping mini fish kids corralled in a certain area as well as make awesome spots to find crab and fish. This is a private beach area so there aren't life guards, any public facilities like bathrooms or showers, and there are no parking lots. Please be mindful and respectful, this is a residential area. Trash cans are not abundant in this area. Tons of free street parking and walkways to beach are clearly posted. Please stay on the marked pathways!Let's keep this lovely gem intact for others to share!

I went here to take my senior pictures, and it was absolutely beautiful!! The houses are all very new and the landscaping is neat. There was also an area with pretty trees a short way from where we parked. When we went onto the beach, the sunset was perfect and there was a tidal pool to add to it! I'm not sure how it would be to go for a beach trip, but I'm sure it'd be pretty great considering how it was at sunset. If you are ever looking for somewhere pretty to take pictures or go for an evening walk, then go to east beach- I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

My fave Norfolk beach hands down! The waves are calm and the landscape is beautiful. The residents of East beach are friendly and accommodating. This is the place to go to escape beach crowds!I only gave a four star review cause of the many dogs that aren't on a leash (sadly this is common in va beaches)
