From immediately entering I knew the service would be great because of how warm our welcome was and personable. Our server was very attentive. We sat outside which it sits on the water. It was very good local hometown vibes. My fried shrimp were great and my Painkiller was soooo good too!

I've been to Dock of the Bay several times this year for lunch and dinner and I've never been disappointed! Whether it's fresh fish or crab cakes, tacos or a burger, all of my friends have enjoyed everything! The proportions are generous, the food is tasty and hot, and the price is reasonable. We recently tried another seafood restaurant nearby, but everyone said, "let's go back to Dock of the Bay next time".Their waitstaff is always friendly, quick and attentive. We'll be back soon!

This is the best seafood restaurant around. I eat there often they never disappointed me food is fresh cooked well. Service is outstanding, friendly and helpful. They are very comfortable and accommodating to guest. They know your name and it like being at home. I try to eat there at least two times a week.

Dock By the Bay is a seafood restaurant right across the James River Bridge. Customer service is on point but this restaurant lacks in certain areas. Food is bland. Bathrooms need to be upgraded (and cleaned constantly). The amount of women I saw walking out with tissue on the bottom of their shoes is a sign of no one cleaning the bathroom. This place needs a refresh and a new menu. For example, my scallops were rubbery and my asparagus were skinny and flavorless. I will not visit this restaurant again.

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon on a whim. I got the seafood player take out. It came with two sides, two fried oysters, two large butterflied shrimp (prawn), two flounder fillets and a crab cake. Everything was mildly seasoned and fried a light golden brown. I ate every bite with cocktail sauce which was very zesty. I enjoyed it all.I will have to stop in for a real dining experience soon.

The hubs and I had crossed over the bridge and ended up in Carrollton. It was an exploring kind of day that usually ends with food. No research done just saw an eatery and pulled over to park. With Covid and restaurants having rules on social distancing when dining, we decided to just eat outside on their patio. No one was there and it was a nice day. Our waiter hand out menus for us to peruse, and water shortly followed. I had a hankering for fried fish tacos and chose my two sides of fries and rice pilaf. The hubs opted for the fried shrimp dinner platter with hush puppies, with a side order of apple sauce. The food came out in a timely manner, and our waiter was nice. It was hard to hear with his mask on. I think a lot of us has experienced that when ordering. It's not the fault of the customer or business owner. Umm so my fish tacos were ok. I enjoy fish and chips, and even better fried fish tacos, but one side was soggy, and there was no crunch with the first bite. There was a lot of chopped lettuce dressed on top with bits of onion and tomatoes. The tortilla wrap was nice and warm, but the flavor was uninteresting. There was nothing adventurous happening in my tastebuds. There was a spread of orange sauce that felt bland. Maybe some hot sauce or tarter sauce could've helped. Rice Pilaf and fries were ordinary and warm. I ended up trying the hubs fried shrimp. It was thickly battered and had a nice crunch. The hush puppies were also ok. There was enough leftovers to take back home. We would come back and try their other offerings maybe their steak. The area is not congested, and it's calming to see lots of greenery on this side of town. :)

We walked out after being ignored for about 10 minutes by wait staff. I used the bathroom and was immediately turned off-scratched up toilet seats, broken paper towel dispensers. My husband and I passed through bc we were headed to Hampton and spotted this place so we decided to get a quick bite. Once inside, it looked dark and dank--wasn't really a welcoming vibe as we were the only raisins in a bowl of oatmeal. So, after sitting for ten minutes without acknowledgment, we caught on and left. Probably dodged a bullet-the food probably left a lot to be desired, anyway!

The staff was friendly, attentive, and professional. They were 5 stars. The food...was at the opposite end of the spectrum. We had baked cod, fried oysters, and grilled salmon. Nothing was fresh which was quite surprising considering the vast amount of local and fresh seafood in the area. The food was bland with very little seasoning of any type. Won't be back amd won't recommend.
