We stopped by this diner on a Sunday morning, and despite a few bumps along the way, it left us smiling and satisfied. When we arrived, we were told there'd be a 30-minute wait, which seemed odd since there were clearly some empty seats. But plot twist! We got called to our table in just 10 minutes--so no harm, no foul. The menu was exactly what you'd expect from a good diner: classic comfort food with a little extra flair. And the mimosas? Oh yes, they have a whole list of them! I tried the Nauticus Mimosa, and let me tell you--it was love at first sip. The staff was super friendly and clearly trying their best, but we did hit a couple of snags. My mimosa took a scenic route from the bar to my table, and there was a little mix-up with my main course. Luckily, both issues were fixed quickly, and the staff's cheerful attitude made it easy to forgive. Now, the food. *Chef's kiss.* The Nutella-stuffed French toast was fluffy, moist, and basically a hug on a plate. The Cheesecake French toast was good too, though the Nutella definitely stole the show. Bonus points for the kids' menu, which had plenty of fun combos to keep the little ones happy. Overall, this diner feels like that quirky, lovable friend who occasionally forgets their keys but always makes you laugh. A few tweaks to the service, and this place would absolutely shine. We'll definitely be back--probably for another Nauticus Mimosa (or two)!

This diner has been frequented by me and my family for years. However, there has been a change in management. My husband and I stopped by recently for breakfast. After being seated, we requested our refreshments and breakfast food order. I expressed to the young waiter that my French toast was not hot and I would like another plate of French toast please. The young waiter replied to me, "that is highly unlikely the food is not hot." After he took the plate away, my husband didn't realize that his request for scrambled eggs were not completely scrambled and were somewhat runny. At this point, we still have not received our breakfast drinks. Once the young waiter returned to the table, my husband kindly asked to speak to management. The young man replied, "that would be me boss." (Which was definitely not a customer service - like response ). I began to communicate to him that his response regarding my preferred temperature for my food that I ordered was very offensive. I felt that his response to me was saying that I was being untruthful about the temperature of the food. The young waiter then responded with, " well, unfortunately, the customer is not always right." I really wasn't for sure what he meant by that so I requested clarification. He then repeated the same sentence that the customer is not always right. I was really confused and baffled, because as the customer requesting a plate of food to be hot is correct and right to expect their food to be plated and served hot. The young waiter continue to verbalize that his sister was the owner of the restaurant and that my husband and I could both remove ourselves from the restaurant without paying. I then responded to him that I hadn't intended on paying for food that was not properly delivered. The young waiter/manager continued to argue on to say that he would call the police had we stated we would not pay without him giving us the OK to leave without paying. He was very nasty , terrible attitude and his delivery of customer service , to say the least, was in the garbage can. No one in management, especially in food services cannot gauge what is a considered "hot " or "warm" temperature for a food item by the customer and state the customer is wrong is requesting their food item be replaced because it isn't at the temperature of their liking. He definitely needs some courses on Customer service or a job not serving people. The fact of his sister being the owner definitely gave him a big head in the feeling that he could speak to us and whatever manner he chose.I would like to say that the owner of the restaurant would not be pleased in the way he handled us during this visit.

This diner was across the street from our hotel, so convenient and very satisfying for a breakfast meal. I'm a huge fan of (good) biscuits and gravy, has to be something close to what Mom made, and theirs was pretty close. Instead of having a second plate for two over-easy eggs, the eggs were placed on top of the biscuits and gravy. My wife is a fan of pancakes and waffles and she enjoyed both during our two breakfast visits. The diner itself is laid out well and wasn't too loud even though it was bustling with breakfast-goers. The service is managed well - some servers are greeters and other greeters are bussers. An efficient recipe for taking orders, delivering food, and taking care of the customers.Value to experience cost was well worth it, not took expensive for great two great breakfasts. Definitely on the list when we visit Norfolk in the future.

The D 'egg Diner is located in the heart of Norfolk. I think the Main St. Garage is one of the closer garages for parking. I was in Norfolk for a week for some new job trainings, so I decided to try some local places during my lunch breaks. My visit here was on September 24, 2024.When looking for places to try out, I wanted to seek out places where I could get something without spiking my glucose levels as I have been in diabetic remission for over a year. When I came in, a host was at the door and I asked for a menu, as I would have the food to-go instead of dining in. After taking some time to review the menu and options, I decided to go with an omelet with four ingredients. I went with pepper jack cheese, bacon, green peppers and onions with salsa as the side and a biscuit for the bread item. After about 10 minutes or so, the food was ready. I did make the payment in cash. There is an additional 3% service fee if you use a credit or debit card. I then headed back to the building where the training I was attending was located. There's a break room there where I was able to have lunch.Once I got back to the break room, it was time to indulge in a lunch. Everything was still hot when I got there too. The food was very good and was cooked the right way as well. It was a filling meal.Overall, my experience here with the staff and food were very good. If I have to come back over to Norfolk in the future for any trainings, I would stop back in here again. This place is worth checking out.

A real original gem in downtown Norfolk. Breakfast is phenomenal here and the coffee was wonderful too. When my picky-eater colleague returned to the restaurant EVERY DAY of our workshop, I knew this was the best place.

Hubby and I came here for a quick bite to eat on a Friday afternoon. They were not busy at all. Our server was nice enough. I was impressed she came several times to refill my coffee and ask if we needed anything else. It must have been close to closing time since they were cleaning up. I did have to flag them down to get our check. Hubby got the Rueben sandwich and fried okra. He liked it. I opted for their breakfast platter with french toast, 2 eggs scrambled with cheddar cheese, and turkey sausage. The sausage was just okay. I was kind of looking forward to links but it was okay. My eggs were okay. The french toast had a ton of powdered sugar on top and yummy butter. No worries. This was delicious! Everything was okay. Nothing more, nothing less.

Great breakfast spot! Fluffy omelets, crispy tater tots and yummy biscuits - my picky husband and daughter LOVED this place. Arrived early Sunday afternoon and didn't have to wait, which was awesome because I couldn't wait to try the freshly squeezed orange juice. Although our server was attentive and courteous, she wasn't very warm. Nonetheless, we definitely plan to visit again. A parking garage is very close, as is some curbside meter parking. After breakfast, we walked along the waterfront and took pictures. This place is well worth the stop

Had a 2 person set down breakfast, downtown Norfolk. Maine st., Feb 26, 2025. Breakfast used to be outstanding and delicious. Last visit was 2023. Breakfast was not the best. (Being nice). Waitress was nice. The menu states automatic gratuity for 5 more guest, internet states automatic gratuity for 6 or more. The check for the 2 of us added an automatic gratuity. Waitress said it depends on what Deggs you eat at. But it clearly states gratuity on 5 or more. Be alert to the rip off.
