Corolla beach is a fun beach to go to whether you're up for driving on the sand or would rather lay out. You do not need a pass for driving on the beach. The sand wasn't too bad for driving and was definitely worth it as the views were spectacular. A fun beach drive at the top of North Carolina was definitely a bucket list check. Great times!

Corolla (pronounced: "Kuh-RAH-Luh") is one of the most popular beaches in North Carolina's Outer Banks. Its has 24 miles of unspoiled shoreline & the communities are charming & the vibes are always good! There is private beach access in front of every little community or if you want to have a good day adventure then drive to where the road ends & and you can go to the 4-wheel drive secluded beach.Just north of Corolla 4x4 vehicles can access the beach at the Northern end of NC 12 where the paved road ends. 4WD beach is a whole other world but you MUST be in a 4WD vehicle & you MUST purchase a permit, which costs $50/week, but that's the only way they sell the permits. You can purchase the permit on the Currituck County website. This hidden beach is best known for its remoteness and the one-of-a-kind wild Spanish mustangs. There is twelve miles of pristine 4WD beach & more than 7,000 acres of wilderness. Behind the dune line are rental homes & in front is nothing but sun, sand, & a gorgeous secluded beach. Ok, no more writing... time to chillax because the beach is calling! Cheers peeps!

8/25/22From Virginia Beach to North Carolina Outer Banks, the areas are lovely. Virginia Beach is closer to home, but the extra 3 hours to get to North Carolina Outer Banks makes the trip worth it.Whether you stopping at the Headlights OBX Gentleman's Club or driving on down to Henry's Restaurant. Your in for a treat. If you are into walking around Jockey's Ridge State Park In Nag's Head, you are bound to come across people hang gliding on the sandy dunes. Be warned, the sand can get hot and there are small cactus balls that can attach to you.If you wish to see horses, you just might seem them in Corolla. You might see elk too. One of the best things to do is drive on the ocean sands. You will need the proper vicheles for this experience or you will get stuck in the sand. If you are feeling very brave, check out the area where the ocean meets the sound. YOU WILL need good clearance on your vehicle if you wish to do this. It is one place I have not experienced that I can truly remember.I use to have beach house called Ebony and Ivory in the C Section of Corolla. I remember when much of the land was developed in the 1980's and how I have seen it grow over time. I remember how when I loved swimming in the ocean even during the most dangerous times...Or at least I wanted to. I remember as a kid wondering what it would be like to skinny dip in the ocean, but never got my chance till decades later. It is quiet the experience swimming in the ocean at night in the nude, but very fulfilling. One check mark off my bucket list.Golf and Miniture Golf are another popular thing to do in the Outer Banks. If you have kids, golf and water slides can be an attraction to some kids. You might even find actual video game arcades in some places of the Outer Banks. The one thing I highly recommend is trying out Parasailing in the sound before eating at The Blue Point. You might even do a little shopping in the shopping area too.Whatever you desire, I have done all over these except for the one I mentioned earlier on. If I did go there, I don't remember it.Take a trip to the Outer Banks and enjoy your time here. I hope to go back and visit here next month. Time will tell:)Last time we were here was July 2020. We are overdue for a return trip.

Coming to this beach was one of my favorite places while in Outer Banks. We rented jeeps through Outer Banks Jeep Rentals and then drove up to Corolla. Off roading on the beach itself was fun, and you could stop anywhere along the water to get out. We also got to see several herds of wild horses! If you visit NC you HAVE to make this a stop, it will be one you never forget!
