When in Rome, here they do onions, slaw, chili, and mustard as the standard instead of lettuce, tomato and mayo! Here goes nothing!

Visited Community Drive-In on a hot dog trip to Northeast North Carolina. This place is certainly unassuming from the outside but with a nearly full parking lot, you know there is good stuff going on inside. Service here is quick and friendly with the Southern hospitality you'd expect. I ordered two hot dogs, one with chili, slaw, and mustard and one with chili and cheese. CDI is one of those funky joints that puts the cheese of the chili cheese dog under chili. Does it matter? Probably not...but also...maybe?On the way out, the cakes on the counter were calling my name. I got a slice of yellow cake with chocolate icing and ate it that night in my hotel. Delightful!I'd definitely return to Community Drive-In and sample some of their other menu items.

This place is like taking a WONDERFUL step back in time!!! We stopped there when we were in Roanoke Rapids in April, it was like stepping back in time!!! TOTALLY AMAZING!!! They have breakfast, lunch and dinner!! I couldn't wait to get to go back this time when we got to Roanoke Rapids!!!! I was NOT disappointed!!!!It is celebrating 70 years and as I understand it, in the same family all 70 years!!! The prices are MORE THAN FAIR, more than plenty of food, you WILL NOT leave hungry & the people treat you so nicely!!!I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this little GEM!! GREAT food, SUPER NICE people and super clean !!!

Best hotdogs around !!Stopped by today and got a couple of hotdogs and BBQ sandwich, also Navy beans and sweet tea. I like to get mine lightly dressed to cut down on the sogginess and to bring out the hotdog taste. The Navy beans come with either rolls or a side of hush puppies, who doesn't like hush puppies, they were great. The jumbo sweet tea is homemade to perfection. Service is quick and accurate, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the prices can't be beat. You can tell that whomever is back there cooking the food loves what they do, you can taste it in every bite. I plan on going back soon to try one of the blue plate specials and the delicious looking pie.

Step back in time... way back... to this darling little mom and pop roadside drive-in diner. Since 1954, this diminutive spot has been serving up America's comfort food! Burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, BLTs, country ham and more. Down here in Roanoke Rapids, I discovered that when you order a burger with "everything", that's not lettuce, tomato and mayo - but onion, Cole slaw and chili! That's how they do it in the south! Our combo came with crinkle fries, a large drink and a free hot dog - all for less than $7!! We also had some homemade pie, chocolate chess and lemon meringue. Most of the food is pretty good. But the hot dog is... well, let's just say I know why they're free... they are those bright red hot dogs that "frank"ly not very appetizing. We just took one bite. It would be awesome if they had all beef dogs, I'd pay double for a good wiener!! That being said, I love the 50's retro décor! The service was excellent and super friendly and the place was clean as a whistle inside!! But the restrooms out back weren't! It was cramped and funky and awkward, and the facilities didn't work. Gotta minus a star for that!!

I remember visiting this location as a child. When I was little, I would only get cheese on my cheeseburgers and only ketchup on my hotdog. Even though I now eat them well dressed, I still order them the same from when I was a child.I love visiting Community Drive In because it brings back amazing memories with my father. We use to go inside an eat, but on this visit I went to the take out menu. They offer a lot of the same foods as any other restaurant and they take phone orders as well. This isn't a fast food place so it will take a little time for your food to be ready. They also server delicious navy beans. Suggest you give this place a try. Especially if you're in the mood for some good food. :)
