Ordered some type of eggs benedict. Green hollandaise didn't have much to it. Wasn't loving the biscuit type toast for it, but was especially disappointed when I ripped open the egg and the white was the runniest white I had ever seen. It kind of poured into the toast that by the time I showed the waitress it wasn't as egregious as when I first saw it run out watery. She tried to argue that's how they come and had some back-and-forth with the cook where he said he can't do it with a firm white and runny yolk. So of course it's sent back and then I had a hard yellow, but as anybody knows a good poached egg has firm, not runny uncooked whites with a warm creamy yoke. Multiple google sources confirmed this, so was kind of insulting when the workers said we were incorrect / crazy for expecting a normal poached egg. It is hard to gauge the doneness of a poached egg, but for a $17 plate it should be correct. Though, they did comp the eggs for this situation. The ham was overly salty and too dark of a color from my preference. The salad and vinaigrette was subpar according to dad. Did not enjoy the grits. I loved the bacon. I asked the waitress what drinks were good and she said a latte so I said sure, but she had meant the honey latte which was good, but I had thought she meant a normal latte without sugar, so I guess miscommunication on both of our behalf's for not specifying.

Stopped in for some brunch while walking our dog. Thankfully there was patio seating! The inside had a cool vide, but with our dog - we stuck to the patio. I have extensive allergies and I'm so grateful for the staff and kitchen talking through the menu with me. I was able to safely eat a number of items with only minor modifications. I got the cornmeal waffles and they were quite yummy. My husband got the friend chicken sandwich, which he enjoyed. We would gladly return.

Visited on a whim this morning when we stumbled upon open seats outside while riding our bikes past headed to a coffee shop down the road. It's been on the must try list for quite some time! I opted for the waffles and fried chicken, it was very good. First time having cornmeal waffles, while different they were great. The fried rice bowl was tasty and HUGE. The coffee and service were also on point. Not sure why we waited so long to try it...excellent! The ambience outside is nice however it's along a busy street so expect typical VB strip vibes.

I will start with, I don't know if this place has any parking, but thankfully someone was pulling out from the side of the road and we were able to park there. So if parking is usually something that will hold you from going somewhere this place is probably not for you.But if you do not care and you're here to try a good brunch spot, this place has a pretty good size menu with multiple protein options, and I think I saw vegan option too. My favorite item is a beet latte I know sounds weird beets in a latte but it was so delicious. I went with my partner and daughter and we all agree that we will be going there again. The server was nice it's a small location it was a bit busy but I never felt like I wasn't getting what I needed. Again, if you're looking for something new to try and want to get out of your comfort zone. This place is it.

Farm to table at the oceanfront. Private parking. Solid 4 overall, mostly because of the creative and diverse lunch menu appealing to my vegetarian friend. Fried rice bowl was heat hot, made with fresh ingredients, and very filling. Service was very friendly but tad on slow side. You may want to be forward if you're in a rush.

Came here for brunch on Easter Sunday and had a wonderful experience! This review actually sits at a 4.5/5 because adding honey to your tea is $1.50 and a side of bacon is $6.50, which I think is quite literal highway robbery. But, the food and service were very good. We started with the fruit fritters and didn't expect so many and for them to be so large, but were pleasantly surprised! The fresh cream was a lovely touch. I had a chai latte and my husband had a macchiato, both of which were very nice. For brunch, I got the Tidewater Mushroom benny and my husband had regular eggs Benedict. The flavor of mine was amazing. My husband's meal was also very delicious, though the ham didn't even keep one full day (as leftovers, not sure why). For a $65 meal, I would expect you could definitely add some other kind of sweetener to a chai latte, so that was disappointing (to have been told I could add honey....at $1.50 a scoop). The ambiance is simple and tasteful. We sat outside on a sunny day and that was lovely. I do wish their spot was closer to the ocean!!

Commune has been on my radar for awhile. I was attending an event nearby and my friends wanted to meet up for brunch before going and I suggested Commune since it was so close.- Parking - If you come early enough, you can snag a spot in their private lot shared with neighboring businesses or you can also find parking on the street.- TLC - The service at Commune seems to be a more shared experience, where we had a main server, but had other servers brought our food and take other requests. They were all really kind and sweet.- Noms & Sips - Yaupon matcha latte - I am familiar with yaupon after having lived in Savannah, where this medicinal plant used by Native Americans comes from. The latte was tasty, but a bit more grainy and earthy than what habitual matcha drinkers are used to, so FYI.Gold milk latte - My friends each ordered a golden milk latte, with different milks, but both slurped it up and expressed how they were tempted to order another because it was so delicious!Hash tots - this is a shareable dish! We ordered this dish thinking it was an app size, but the tots were huge, almost like a giant donut hole. The texture is interesting because it is both a soft and mashed-like texture, as well as shreds of sweet potatoes. It is served with this delicious sweet, mayo-like sauce. Not sure if I would order it again, only because it was so filling, and we barely had room for the three other dishes we ordered, but it was tasty!Farm grit bowl - I've never been a fan of collard greens, but all that changed at Commune! I'm also not usually a fan of grits either, but I would definitely order this again! It was comfort in a bowl with a little bit of fancy sprinkled in. The grits were nice and creamy, accompanied with a chicken sausage patty, topped with a poached egg, microgreens, a slice of watermelon radish and a generous helping of collard greens. Normally, the fumes of the vinegar that is used to cook down collard greens, go up my nose, which in turn, throws me off, so I've never really been a fan of the preparation at the majority of places. However, at Commune, I could have eaten an entire bowl's worth. I did taste the vinegar, but it wasn't as overpowering and just really paired well with the grits! So good. Cornmeal waffles - this is their interpretation of the chicken & waffle dish. The waffles were a lot more dense, and hearty since it was made with cornmeal, but I liked the grittiness and was definitely more filling. The chicken was battered and seasoned nicely and the fact that they used thigh meat was a bonus! The chicken was juicy! Biscuits & gravy - This was my least favorite dish, but it was still good. I felt like the biscuits were just a little flat and not as tall and puffy. It still tasted good, an egg makes everything better, and the salad added a nice healthy balance to a heavy plate.Overall, the vibe is stellar. Lots of wood and plants as decor, with art from a local Virginia artist D. Kane on the walls and his signature black and white design on their menus. This is a farm-to-table concept, cooked with produce grown in their garden out back. I've heard that the rest of the ingredients are sourced from as local as possible. This all means, it is a bit more pricey, but I would definitely return knowing that they are using quality ingredients and putting so much care.Enjoy, Friends and never stop exploring!

My favorite brunch in Virginia Beach. you want good food? good service? good drinks? Did you start your Saturday at 10am? Go to commune. After all, you can't drink all day if you don't start early. May as well load up with a potato bowl as well.

The food was amazing, very delicious. But the service was very slow. Our waitress Jamie forgot to place our order, and we waited for an hour before our food came out. Very aggravating situation.
