Our carriage ride
Grand illumination
This was just outside Colonial Williamsburg in Merchant Square. Make time for that as well!

This is a lovely introduction to Colonial American history. We visited everything from the apothecary to the cabinetmaker, general store, dressmaker, Kings Arms tavern, dessert shop, Bruton Parish church and the Governor's Palace.

If you haven't been to Colonial Williamsburg, you need to drop everything and go. So rich in our history, and so entertaining. And in the fall they often run specials allowing you a membership for little more than the cost of an activity. I purchased the membership allowing us unrestricted access and a carriage ride where we were given the roles of the richest people in town!Ate in a local pub...that was interesting. Food was "authentic" and ale was good. There are many little stores interspersed in the town where we got some interesting period pieces. Even Orange Blossom water, which the food network site told me how to use!I could have spent a week here, but we had limited time. Someday I will get back and allowed a full week to satisfy my curiosity!

I have lived in Virginia for about 6 years and I passed by Williamsburg. I have seen the signs, but I have never really taken the time to visit Williamsburg My fiancée is a civil war fanatic so we always try to find a place to go to satisfy his need to history. So he can have more historical fun facts to share with friends at game night gatherings. Haha. This place was very pleasant. We walk thru the Williamsburg old town and it was for sure and amazing adventure. The employee walk around with outfits from the 1800 and all the old buildings and history. It's a small town and each little building has a background and a story. They have backyard gardens that look fruitful and just stunning. Then they had a little park with bond fires. It great to a nice end while it being cold.

We bought a week pass to enter the colonial Williamsburg and Busch Garden Williamsburg for a low special price for the family. There's definitely things to see and explore. Historians will be around to provide tours and give a bit of history and storytelling. It's every educational for the kids and adults too. There's houses and souvenir stores along the sidewalks and most of them our pass covers the admission. Some attractions require tickets to enter (extra pay for these tickets). There's a free shuttle bus that make few stops along the way to a few destinations and you can hop on/off throughout the day.The market place is the best with most shopping to do. On weekends, there's local vendors that comes out to sell their goods. I would recommend coming here on the weekends and in the mornings for this highlight. There's several parking areas that you can park for free for two hours but if you plan to stay longer, park at the guest visiting center. It's free parking for the whole day and the shuttle bus departs every 10 minutes or so.

Neat collection of stores for out of town visitors. Nice mix of food, specialty shops, and reastraunts. No vehicles are allowed, so it is a wonderful pedestrian mall. They have regular and frequent art fairs or farmers markets or the like, so drop by on the weekends to see what is up.

The ticket office is on the corner between the Duke of Gloucester shops and Colonial Williamsburg. The staff is helpful and efficient in obtaining tickets and activity information. The office also has clean restrooms and is a stop on the Colonial Williamsburg bus line.

I was so looking forward to this and was completely disappointed with the experience at the museum specifically. I understand with covid that life as we knew it has changed, but it doesn't validate harassment from the staff at the museum that I encountered today. Unacceptable. The herding of the cattle and poor customer service right when I walked in was the first step. We were told to leave bags in a locker (most people cannot work a high school locker combination and no help was provided and I was told that my cross body bag had to be held in the front which is ridiculous and I still can't understand why. It wasn't made for that!!? Anyway , long story short I was followed by the museum staff who apparently wanted to make sure I had my mask properly over my nose as well, a bit much considering there were about 15 people in the whole place. She kindly told me to wear it properly and then also told me not to stand a certain way near the exhibits due to a sensitive alarm system. Fine. Then she followed me to ensure my mask was right. And then at the end I was told by another lady to adjust my bag so that it's in the front if my body. You know, the bag that doesn't go in front? I said, I'm done. Left. Not a good experience and not worth 35. Most of the country has dropped the mask Mandates including mine and I can't wait to get home!!!
