Best dog park in Norfolk! We love coming here. The people are great and our dogs always have a blast. We have been coming here for about 2.5 years. It's a great place to bring the dogs on a hot day because of how much shade there is all over. The shaded area covers over half the park. The dogs/people who come to the park are always great! The community has really stepped up improvements to the park in the last year or so. They've put in mulch where the muddy spots used to be and vamped up the water station as well. There is a tiny pool area for the dogs to splash around in, plenty of tennis balls and rope toys, and benches and picnic tables for the humans!Must check this out if you're in the area with your dogs! Great neighborhood.

My fiancé and I have been coming to Colonial dog park since we started at ODU. We love that the space is large enough for our German Shepherd to run around. There is plenty of seating around the dog park and a nice water station for the pups to rehydrate. They have done a lot of updates to the park, which is nice for people like us who depend on the dog park on a daily basis (we unfortunately don't have a backyard). The park has your basic rules (no aggressive dogs, dogs must be up to date on their vaccinations, etc). They also have a bulletin board where they post information about local events in the area. The only con to this dog park is that it is all street parking. On weekends and week nights, it can get very busy so parking can be an issue. My dogs love coming here, so we will continue to enjoy the space!

The pup Riot and I go to this park at least once a week since it's only about half a mile away from us and within our walking route. The Park is pretty spacious. There's a cool bamboo forest thing that the dogs like to circle around a lot in one corner. There's also plenty of seating for dog owners to have a seat and relax while the dogs play. The water pump is near the fence and beside the picnic table. There are usually a bunch of tennis balls laying around and other throwable toys for you to play fetch with your pup. Plenty of bags for you to pick up after your best pet friends. The only con is that its half grass and half dirt (turned into sand) so it gets messy. My pup always comes home dirty, but then again, that is to be expected. Also, there seem to be a lot of mosquitoes around during the summer with stagnant water laying around the area. Also note that the dogs that come here are of all shape and sizes. Mostly labs and medium sized mix breeds. There are no aggressive dogs allowed but owners understand when on some days certain friendly dogs just turn to quarrel with others for whatever their reasons may be. Basic dog park rules apply of course.

The clique there is a little bizarre. They seem to have an attitude of "your dog needs to fit in here." Brought my small dog Sophie and these two large dogs were hounding her, nipping and barking. She was obviously scared and whimpering away and the lazy owners just sat at the picnic table making absolutely no effort (seriously, 0 effort) to allow my new dog to acclimate herself. I let it go on but finally called out, "is someone going to take action or do you want me to deal with it as I see fit?" Finally, this grumpy little woman thumped over without saying a word and took her dog away then sulked at the table with her dog park clique. I have a friend who was told "maybe your dog doesn't belong at the dog park" when she expressed discontent at someone's dog aggressively hounding her dog.

We just moved to the area and my husband had come to this dog park when he was previously stationed in Norfolk. We have two big friendly dogs and they like this park. The other owners are friendly and seem to be paying attention to their dogs. There are a few dogs that tend to be a little, more, um, friendly than others and that's a little annoying since neither of my male dogs enjoy being mounted, but no big deal. There is water there and plastic bags for cleanup, as well as some random balls and toys. There seemed to be a nice mix of sizes of dogs, which is nice to see.

Started going because it was the closest to my house, but stopped because wasn't a good mix of dogs, all large breeds and they didn't want to play with my pup. The park itself is half grass and half dirt, so my dog always left filthy. Owners don't seem interested in picking up after their dogs even though bags are provided. Lafayette and Ghent Dog Parks are much nicer which is why I gave it two out of five.
