My husband and I stayed a night here for our wedding anniversary. We were greeted by Kathryn, the owner and had great communication with her prior to checking in. She was very knowledgeable about the area and had great dinner recommendations. We stayed in the Potomac room. The room was very comfortable! The sheets and towels were so luxurious. The room was clean and maintained a comfortable temperature. Breakfast was served at 9am in the gorgeous dining room. We had a variety of fruit, granola, yogurt to choose from to start with. Fresh coffee, orange juice, and water were served. The main course was eggs and grits. The grits were amazing! We will definitely be returning.

I usually don't like to bash a business based upon a singular experience - especially when special circumstances such as a holiday could possibly contribute to a negative outlook. All-the-same, I feel like this is a definitive exception to my rules.I'll start with the "good" - the B&B itself is situated conveniently to Colonial Williamsburg. A short ten-minute walk lands you in the heart of Market Street. The exterior seems mostly period appropriate and gives you a feel of pseudo stately grandeur. The interior is well appointed albeit dated with a few broken chairs, broken wooden blinds, peeling wallpaper, cobwebs, and a (sadly) out of tune piano. Couple that with the dangerously slippery brick walkway, the mattress spring that cut my leg open, the soap-scum laden shower curtain, and of course the doors that don't close properly, and you've got yourself a typical second-hand B&B that needs maintenance and management to reconsider their plans for long-terms success. However, what truly stands out is the ridiculously unprofessional manner in which my girlfriend and I were treated. The part-owner (K.) mis-communicated the breakfast arrangements to us - not necessarily a big deal. We were told that breakfast would be provided by a local Bistro - which appears to be their normal policy. The Bistro was closed when we arrived on Christmas morning - again that part is understandable. We would have made other arrangements if the owner had simply communicated to us better - which she claims that she did... I've spent a lot of time travelling in my life and I always prefer to stay at B&B's due to the quiet and convenience. I have never in my life experienced an owner that wouldn't accept fault for their mistake. K. insisted over and over again that my girlfriend (who made the arrangements) was wrong and misunderstood the breakfast situation. I know well enough that 3-4 conversations worth of instructions would not be misunderstood to that level. K. repeatedly informed my girlfriend that the bistro would be open and even called back once to give us a different time-frame to show up (7:30-10:00). That's not a misunderstanding, that's someone at fault that doesn't want to accept responsibility for their actions. To make matters worse, she sent a long (and ridiculously unprofessional) text - which is unheard of - to my girlfriend further explaining how this was our fault.I'll close by saying that our experience would have been a 3.5 based upon the quality of the B&B and the lack of personal service if K. had simply done what any leader/manager (including myself) would have done - accept responsibility and understand that your customers and guests are always right (even if they aren't). She made no effort to correct her mistake and merely pinned the blame on two innocent people that were acting on misinformation and trying to have a happy Christmas. In my book, that's how you make a business fail.

My wife and I stayed here in early October. Since this was the off-season, only two of the other rooms were booked. George Hollingsworth was our solitary host, but he was extremely gracious and eager to meet all of our needs, and perfectly capable of handling the entire show by himself. When we initially arrived, the other rooms were not yet occupied and so we were able to take a tour of the entire establishment. All of the rooms are exactly as pictured on their website. They are tastefully decorated in colonial period, with a small television set the only concession to the modern world. We stayed in the York room. It was very comfortable and quiet with a terrific view towards the front.George serves a delicious breakfast that varied from day-to-day during our three-day stay. Not exactly recommended for the diet-conscious, however. Beverages included hot tea, coffee, and orange juice.Best of all, the B&B is directly across the road from William and Mary College and just a few short blocks from Colonial Williamsburg. This is extremely important as parking in Williamsburg is extremely limited and being within walking distance of everything was highly convenient. Even some of the best restaurants that Williamsburg has to offer were just around the corner. Be sure and dine at least once at the Green Leafe Cafe and Paul's Delly (yep, that's how it's spelled... and just across the street from the college even!). Prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious. As far as atmosphere... think early American Pub.George can also purchase tickets for Colonial Williamsburg using their online service, thereby saving yourself a potential lengthy wait at the ticket counter in town. The wait can often be significant during tourist season, but in our case it saved only 10 minutes or so. Still...All in all, a very pleasant, relaxing stay in a very accommodating tourist town. Being the off-season, prices were cheaper, but far from cheap at $160 per night. With the Colonial Williamsburg tickets and taxes thrown in, the price worked out to $208 per night. Quite reasonable for Williamsburg.

Kathryn was a great hostess and has a beautiful home in a perfect location for touring Williamsburg, especially Colonial Williamsburg which is only a 10min walk straight down the street. Our room and bed were very comfortable and we had everything we needed right in the room. Parking on site was super convenient as well. Breakfast was delicious too!! Would return to stay at Colonial Capital in a heartbeat!

This is my first bed and breakfast experience and it was great! The rooms are adorable and very comfortable. A big plus is the TVs have HBO in case you stay here while in the middle of your favorite HBO series. Breakfast is spectacular! I'm not a breakfast person at home but trust me, don't leave before they serve the food! The owner was extremely helpful and even gave us a free meal ticket to one of their local restaurants for the day she couldn't make it in to cook. Definitely will be back if I return to Williamsburg. Side note, it's about a half mile walk to Colonial Williamsburg.

Ok so I'm not usually so harsh in my reviews but this one irritated me to some extent. I spoke with Kathryn (one of the owners) on numerous occasions about breakfast on Christmas morning. She informed me two days prior that there would be no breakfast at the B&B and that I had the option of either utilizing the kitchen or she would give us a complimentary breakfast at the Blue Talon Bistro. Which apparently the Co owner of the B&B owns. At first I told her we would just bring food and have breakfast in the kitchen. But then we decided it would be nice to eat out. So I called back and spoke with her on at least two more occasions about eating at the Blue Talon. She said it would be open from 7:30-10 for breakfast and we didn't need to worry about reservations because they had opened 2 additional rooms for Christmas so there should be plenty of space. So bright and early Christmas morning, 7:54 am to be exact, we walked in the freezing cold to the bistro. It was closed. There was a sign saying they would reopen on the 26th. Therefore we were cold, mislead, and hungry. Merry Christmas to us. This was unacceptable to me. Christmas is a very important occasion for me and we had planned our entire day around this. Also I have a health condition called hypoglycemia and when I dont eat for long periods of time I pass out, get sick etc, and this lead to a bad episode for me. To be mislead and miscommunicated to about this on at least 4 different phone calls was just unbelievable to me. The B&B itself was decent. Nice, well kept, but could use some updates. The wall paper is coming off the wall in the bathroom of the Potomac room, a spring sticking out of the bed cut my boyfriend, the owners were not there to greet us and unavailable in the morning, and we froze all night even though the heat setting was on high. Other than that I didn't have issues with the room. The rooms also lacked any Christmas decor which was kind of disappointing. All in all it kind of ruined my Christmas and we will not likely ever be back. After speaking with the owner once again after my stay, I had a bit more to say. I spoke with her two days later and the entire conversation consisted of her blaming me for the confusion and taking no responsibility whatsoever. Owning a business comes with certain responsibilities. Two of those are being available to your guests at all times and taking responsibility for your errors. Neither of which she seemed to be able to do. Even after I stated that I was done discussing it she kept pressing me and bringing it back up, continuing to say she didn't know how I could have done that. She also admitted that her "Bed and Breakfast" had not served breakfast since June. You have to go down to their bistro in order to get breakfast. And if you'd rather not get up and go out, you do NOT have use of their kitchen. So basically it's a "bed" not a "bed and breakfast." Please save yourself the agony of a ruined trip and book somewhere else!!!

Colonial Capital Bed & Breakfast was the perfect accommodation for visiting Colonial Williamsburg! The home itself is lovely, with many period pieces, and very comfortable. It's a short walk to the historic center and in close proximity to William & Mary College, adding a combination of colonial history and youthful energy to the neighborhood. The owner, Kathryn Tawes, is a warm and gracious hostess, and very responsive to guests' needs. A real bonus are Kathryn's fabulous breakfasts, a delicious way to transition from a cozy night in the B&B to a day of active sightseeing. Highly recommend Colonial Capital!

Our stay at the BnB was absolutely fabulous! Kathryn contacted us prior to our visit since we were arriving a little later and provided us all the information we needed to access our room (the "James" room). The house is conveniently located within walking distance to colonial Williamsburg and the rooms are adorable! Breakfast was served at 0900 each day and we had a variety of delicious treats (waffles, frittata, and pastries!). Kathryn was so sweet and gave us some recommendations for the area. The atmosphere of the BnB was a "home away from home", relaxing, and cozy (especially on our first real cold day of the Fall season). Definitely recommend!

Stayed with Kathryn for 1 night on a quick trip to the area. My girlfriend and I weren't sure if we would need a room for the night until about 6pm. I checked the availability online, saw a room was open, and then called to book. Luckily, the website availability was accurate; Kathryn quickly answered and was able to book us last minute in the Chesapeake room. We had a wonderful stay, the room was clean as can be and very intimately quaint. The house is inviting and full of character. Breakfast was at 9am and delicious, she made eggs Benedict with Va ham garnished with asparagus and panko-topped baked tomatoes, along with fresh croissants and lemon tarts. Coffee was great, she had a wide selection of teas and even makings for Greek yogurt parfaits. Bed was comfortable the temperature was appropriate for mid August. The location is unbeatable, right in the middle of the downtown/colonial area literally across the street from W&M. As a host, Kathryn was the ideal. So friendly, accommodating, funny, and a great chef! Highly recommend, can't wait to stay again.

4 of us ladies had a getaway from Maryland and stayed the night of May 13, 2019. We absolutely loved Kathryn, the owner, and the B and B. She recommended a wonderful fish restaurant where we had dinner. We had 2 lovely rooms and a fabulous breakfast that we felt was the highlight of the trip--which we talked about for days. The location is excellent----across the street from The College of William and Mary and is within walking distance of the historical district.
