I live and work in this fine city. I enjoy the beautiful beachfront and enjoy using my benefits at the local base commissaries and recreational spots.Nothing can beat waking up to a Virginia Beach sunrise or watching the moon rise reflected on the ocean.I love the variety of restaurants and retail establishments, it rivals the offerings in any major city. We are diverse and our offerings support our varied communities. Our school systems rank among the highest in the state for academic excellence and student graduation rates. We are constantly upgrading our computer and electronic systems to keep our students on par with STEM programs throughout the country. Our roads could use some repairs and we are working on them.We are also in the process of improving our entertainment offerings at the oceanfront. There is always a lot going on. Come on out and enjoy the beach views.

Wanna do a weekend getaway that isnt too far??If you love the beach, VA beach is the best option. We left early, so we can see the sunrise. Like about 2am. No traffic at all. And no scary bridges or tolls. It was a smooth sail arriving and leaving. All this was done on the labor day weekend. When we arrived, people are so friendly! If you're staying for the day their are plenty of places to park for the day. And a lot of nice hotels that wont charge an arm or a leg since peak season is over.Boardwalk is nice, and plenty to see and do. This beach is very diverse and chill unlike OC beach. Youll definitely have a good time, and you gotta grab some Dough boy pizza to grub on the beach.

I lived in VA Beach in the mid 90s and although I appreciated being exposed to life in a big city and metro area, I was really thrilled to get to move back to Alabama! I lived on Baltic Ave., a "hop, skip, and jump" from the beach itself and often walked, biked, rollerbladed or jogged to the beach.Fav's about the beach proper: free morning yoga classes on the beach, professional sand volleyball tournaments, the boardwalk Christmas lights, professional sandcastle building competitions, and biggest favorite of all, the Neptune festival [or as it was known by the locals "take back our beach" weekend] after the majority of the tourists left, and my condo - so cute and right on a little lake with ducks and mature trees. Fav's about the area: Mount Trashmore [good memories flying kites there, and watching free movies], the X Games [I met Tony Hawk at one of them], free Friday concerts Waterside in Norfolk [Lisa Loeb, and the band "Cracker"], the Aquarium, Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, the Cape Henry lighthouse, buying lotto tickets on pay day, inexpensive twilight golf at Langley AFB, watching the SEALs train on my way into work at Naval Air Station, working a weekend job at Lynnhaven Mall, seeing the Titanic exhibit, the accessibility to a wide array of free, good quality tennis courts, my first mosh pit experience seeing L7 at Peabody's, decent proximity to Northern VA and DC.Dislikes: cost of living was crazy expensive! Taxes were extremely exorbitant, road rage, HOV lanes, the anxiety inducing Hampton Roads bridge-tunnel, cursing was banned at all 7/11s [not that I'm a big curser but still, weird law/rule], traffic, how frigid the Atlantic Ocean was and how brown VA beach was compared to the bright white sands of Alabama/Florida beaches, the *long* commute from Ocean Front to NAS; how unwelcoming people were at the church I frequented, my condo HOA, tourists trying to/actually stealing your car sticker insider your car identifying you as a local, the plethora of personalized vanity plates, hence the nickname "low self-esteem state."

Im truly blessed to call VA Beach home. I'm a local and for me this is the only place I ever want to live. We have everything. Wonderful beaches to choose from including the bay. Shopping galore. Restaurants that you want to YELP about because they are so dang awesome. Wineries, breweries, and distilleries. You name it we have it. Not to mention the awesome art VIBE and total cool outdoor places. Love all the parks and activities from paddle boarding, kayaking to The Adventure Park ropes courses and ziplines. We also have several boat ramps for the boating enthusiast. If you don't have your own boat. NO problem. The Virginia Aquarium offers boat tours. So much to do and see I could go on and on. Like I said you name it we have it. In Virginia Beach you will never be bored. You can always find something to see and do. It is just a really cool and interesting place to visit and live. I love it

Even though Virginia Beach itself dates back to 1887. The city was not formerly established until 1963. This is what I consider a suburb of Norfolk or vice versa. It is hard to tell the line of demarcation between the two. Virginia Beach is a seasonal town, that makes most of its money, has the most visitors, and things to do in the summer. There are many places in the city that completely shut down operations in the winter. The city is serviced by the Norfolk Airport and attractions include the Boardwalk, the King Neptune Statue, the Navy SEAL Memorial, The Norwegian Lady Statue, the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center and one of my favorite parks in the whole wide-world, Mount Trashmore Park. There is also some very good bar/restaurant on the boardwalk as well as just off of it.The city's economy is based primarily on two things, tourism and surrounding military installations. You could probably leap frog from one 7-11 to the next, there are that many. And surprisingly, this is a public art mecca. There is an area called ViBe Creative District, where you will find some amazing murals. I was very impressed with the amount and quality of pieces there.I visited between spring and summer break, so there was a lot to do, many places were open and it was not very crowded. The city's moneymaker, the beach, which boarders the Atlantic Ocean, is wide open, well maintained and very clean. There are many parking options for the tourist areas, if it in not included in your hotel stay. There is metered street parking and a few commercial lots and garages within walking distance that you can park at to visit here. The meters cost about $2/ hour and the lots vary in price depending on what is going on and the season.Your experience with this city may very, depending on the time of year that you visit. I think it is a decent city in the Tidewater Area that is close to other good cities such as Portsmouth, Norfolk, and Chesapeake.

The Virginia Beach Municipal Center is located off Princess Anne Road. This check-in is for that area. Most city offices including the courts are found here. Free surface parking is available. The city boost park after park after park for residents and tourist to enjoy. Some are of the small neighborhood variety, others like Mt. Trashmore are large offering lots of amenities. Virginia Beach also has six recreation centers that offer state of the art exercise equipment, pools and gyms.I am in love with our beautiful beaches, parks and recreation areas. As the weather becomes warm enough to take advantage get out and enjoy all there is to offer. However, as someone who often volunteers with beach and park clean up please pick up after yourself and recreate responsibly. There are so many reasons why beach residents feel as though they live in paradise. Our gorgeous beaches and boardwalk point blank rock. Few would dispute that the city knows how to take excellent care of our resources for our tourist and locals alike. Explore the parks, pools and history of the beach and I think you will agree Virginia Beach is a cool place to reside and tour

I know a guy who thinks that all virgins are b**ches. Male or female. He'll often say "wait, she's a Virgin yeah? B**ch." I think that's where this city got its name. Virgin, yeah? B**ch. Makes sense.I never really thought to visit Virginia Beach until I had a concert here, and it became one of the best I had ever played. On subsequent tours I always made sure I came back here and it has always been very good. For this reason I really love playing concerts in this area. The main downside for me is that it is a massive military presence, and as a pacifist it's just a little sad to be around all that. Whereas some people might feel safe because of that, it just makes me feel uneasy and like there is a lot wrong with the world. And I mean by the way we see the world and respond to it. Anything that reminds me of war reminds me that we - not others, but we, because it's we that we can control - are doing things all wrong. And being lied to. A lot. Not by the military but by those who lie to the military as they lie to us.Now I have to give it a 5 star rating, anyway, because of the amazing concerts I've had here.Another negative experience was in the beach areas where we had a few intimidating experiences. It doesn't seem the safest place especially in the offseason. But it is still really nice to visit the ocean and I'm looking forward to coming back to the region so I can do some extensive Food Tours. So far I've only found one thing worth mentioning which was the barbecue at Johnson's down in Chesapeake. And my friend Carl in Chesapeake, shout out! And my darling Rosie, hiiii!Anyway, chesapeake of the devil, I have to go chat Rosie and Carl now. We're having a threeway. Chat that is. Skype. Actually I think I'll skip skype.

My wife and are visiting Virginia Beach as we are touring the country. We started our travel from our home state of Oregon, where the Pacific ocean beaches are beautiful. We wanted to see how VB would compare. We are glad we booked only two nights. The beach itself is OK, but frankly no comparison to Pacific beaches we know. Our primary disappointment, however, is the constant roar of jets from nearby military installations, at pretty much all hours. Virginia Beach is definitely not "pacific". We will not be returning.

Ocean air, salty hair, not a care! I really like beach towns like this one, but not as good as Myrtle beach if we're comparing. Has a long boardwalk, but a concrete one and not the wooden one I first expected. Long clean beaches to burn your skin to a crispy peel. A few piers to walk out on and do some fishing. Arcade halls, amusement park rides. Beach bar food where 9/10 things on the menu are fried. The only thing I didn't like is that every second block has a sun block store selling overpriced creams and sprays taking up valuable real estate.
