Checkers Restaurant

Brother and I stopped by for dinner on our weekly drive down the 460. The blurb on Google maps says that this is a fast food chain for burgers and shakes, but this is NOT related to Checkers/Rallys. This is a sit down, homestyle restaurant.We walked in and were seated immediately. The decor is all paintings done by a local artist and all for sale. Very... local family restaurant aesthetic. We ordered the country fried steak served with gravy and onions, the grilled cabbage, and the mashed potatoes with gravy, as well as the hamburger steak with gravy and onions and added mushrooms, and sides of black eyed peas and fried okra.The gravy was great, the mashed potatoes were homemade, but just a bit more creamy/whipped than I generally like them and the country fried steak was very good and crispy on the outside/tender on the inside. Very good. I will say that I was a bit unprepared for the grilled cabbage. The menu just calls it "grilled cabbage". It was equal parts chopped cabbage and bacon. I eat bacon very sparingly (I get migraines), so even though it isn't my favorite, I will eat it. But if you don't eat pork, get migraines, or don't like bacon, it didn't say anywhere on the listing that the side dish was 50% bacon. Cabbage is probably my favorite vegetable, but I wouldn't order it again because of the subsequent migraine. Brother liked the hamburger steak and said that the mushrooms absolutely made the dish. The fried okra was good, but the black eyed peas could have been heated straight out of the can. That isn't to say that they weren't good, but definitely nothing special.Our server was very nice, but definitely don't come by when you are in a hurry. It took around 40 minutes to get our food after ordering, so it was a good thing we weren't starving. It was pretty darn good (and not so greasy that I had to immediately run to the bathroom afterwards, which does happen sometimes) so we will probably be back in the near future.

Observed outlandish behavior from staff--never coming back here, not even if they PAID me. Apparently a customer upset a server and the server proceeded to go in the kitchen and mock the customer to the rest of the staff, in full EARSHOT of the entire dining room...not once, not twice but three times! I mean...REALLY? You're going to talk sh*t about someone, and then do it LOUDLY so other patrons hear it? Talk about DISRESPECTFUL. The entire serving staff was doing it, saw one overhear something said privately and heard her repeat it in the kitchen so they all started getting loud about it. Sounded exactly like people in high school---figures, they're ALL high school teenys. Wow. Never seen anything so RUDE, hateful and nasty. You know if servers do this to one customer, they'll do it to everyone. Telling everyone I know not to eat here.

Finally got a chance to visit this restaurant . We were there Friday September 9th... the food was quite good.place is small staff if friendly service was excellent. I had the captains platter you get to choose 3 meats so i choose orsters, scallops and crab cake salad and collards., fried just right. Salad could have a little more excitement but ok. Just plain for my taste and i really love salad. The collards need alot of work but overall the meal was quite good i really enjoyed the crab cake. My husband had the catfish platter with greens and black-eyed peas he enjoyed his meal as well and that is great for him he is hard to please. So in the end we will visit again. 1 out of 5 they rate a 4. So hive them a visit see what you think.

Meh. Nothing special. Its food and you can eat it. Not bad but no one gets supper excited about going here.

NOT CLOSED! Ate there today was awesome nice cold Crisp salad we were craving their Seafood Platter and it was amazing as usual you can get Fried or Broiled! Flounder, Crab cakes with meat not filler! Shrimp,Scallops and then Cheesecake! I did suggest they put a message on their machine so when someone calls it says currently closed. They are small family owned so things happen! BUT definitely open!!

Thank God for Checkers!!! I'm not a cooking girl and living in Windsor makes dinner time miserable. My family and I eat here at least once a week and get a home cooked meal for a reasonable price and country kindness!! I really don't what I would do without them. My mom who lives in Tennessee and visits asked me if my phone automatically dials checkers everyday around 6pm .

NOT CLOSED. This is a family restaurant, not the Checkers Burger Chain. Just ate there last weekend. Food is almost always good. Been there many times since 2013 and only had one subpar meal.Good food and prices are very reasonable.

The food here was always hit or miss, but mostly miss. The only thing I ever really enjoyed every single time here were the mozzarella sticks. Everything just tastes kinda like it came out of a microwave. I'd say avoid it if you can.

One of my favorite places to eat. Their food is always fantastic.When they're open, of course--their schedule is hard to keep up with.The catfish platter is the best as well as their black eyed peas and fried okra--even my kids love the okra and black eyed peas.Wait times can be up there during their busy times, but it's worth it. The employees are always super friendly.

Without a doubt the best food to be found anywhere around here. From fresh seafood to down home country cooking, they've got it all- and they do it exceptionally well. Great food, prepared and served by great people-I can't wait till they start dine-in operations again. Hands down, my favorite restaurant
