Live close enough to walk or bike. Love this spot. They have great happy hour specials, service is good and reliable. It is beach casual, come as you are. Enjoy!!

I have not been here in awhile. I use to come to this spot periodically, like once to twice a couple of months. Their food use to be great. Well, I figured I would try this place again and what a silly decision I made.The food my beautiful wife and I ordered was Bronzed Tuna tacos (3 are served) which is suppose to come with, tuna, lettuce, pico, queso, and guacamole. All of our tacos were missing pico and queso. The guacamole was almost not seen. Really, we look for it and there was a smidgen of guacamole. Its as if the guacamole was trying to escape. The Tuna was not seasoned which is not a big deal and at least they had chunks of the bland fish.What made matters worst, is that the server added a sandwich we did not order. I was going to bring it to her attention but she stopped me in her tracks knowing she screwed up. I wonder if I did not check the bill, if anything would have been mentioned? Now, she did correct the mistake so no hard feelings but I wonder, hmmmmmm. I also, made her aware of the lack of substance the tacos had; however, it was like a shrug of the shoulders and move on. Its funny because the table next to us ordered medium burgers and they complained that they were well done. They were offered a $5 off the next visit by the manager or maybe the owner.I asked what they were offered and why we were not offered the same thing. I was told as well as the other well done customers that they are working with a new menu. I said, "Ok but why were we not offered a remedy?" The owner maybe the manager eventually offered the same thing but I said no thank you.Unfortunately, for the business we cannot spend any of our hard earned cash here again.Please look at the photo to see the escape of the guacamole.

Hate to say it but with this visit and the previous visit, it does appear that the quality of food has taken a hit. My wife and I can only speak to the original Captain Groovy, dishes as we've not tried any of the new dishes that have been added with the new ownership. Our guess is that the old cooks have faded away and new ones have stepped in. The salads are not as good and the étouffée this visit was terrible (too much rice, not enough chicken and a roux that was inadequate). Even the always spectacular voodoo hot wings just seem to be lacking something.... Service at the bar has been a real improvement since the change in ownership. We will still probably stop in for our once a month late lunch, happy hour visit, however, I don't think we'll be going with any of our old Captain Groovy standards except maybe for the voodoo hot wings and maybe I'll be safe and order a hamburger. No more étouffée. Very disappointing after years of enjoyment.

Does not live up to the hype. Food lacks flavor and seasoning, doesn't matter if it's fresh if it doesn't taste good as well. We spent over $100 and it didn't feel worth it at all. Clearly just a tourist trap.

Best oysters in town. Great happy hour. All the wait staff are great. So much on the menu to return for and try.

Captain Groovy's Grill and Raw Bar in Norfolk is, without a doubt, the worst restaurant I have been to in the area. Aside from the service and being dog-friendly, there is nothing positive I can say about this place.Our waiter, Hunter, was very friendly and accommodating. He admitted to being new and warned us that wait times would be long. I felt bad for him because he seemed out of place at Captain Groovy's. Despite the restaurant's shortcomings, Hunter offered my dogs water and did his best to provide good service.We sat down and immediately ordered an appetizer and drinks. The fried calamari took over 30 minutes to arrive. While waiting, Hunter suggested we place our entree orders due to the expected long wait times. The calamari was just okay; the marinara sauce tasted like plain tomato sauce.The entrees took over 40 minutes to reach our table. I ordered the sirloin steak and eggs, but the steak was completely raw in the center and only slightly above room temperature. The kitchen forgot my scrambled eggs entirely. Additionally, the butter was melted by the time it arrived, making it unusable. The house potatoes were terribly greasy and lacked seasoning, while the grits were undercooked and flavorless.The Reuben sandwich was mediocre. It needed more sauerkraut, and the bread was overly buttered and oily. The fries that came with it were soggy and drenched in oil. We also ordered crab cakes and shrimp with fries. The crab cake was broken apart and had no seasoning. I chose boiled shrimp but received deep-fried and battered shrimp instead. Normally, I wouldn't mind, but the fried shrimp was greasy and rubbery. Again, the fries were soggy and oily.Overall, the food at Captain Groovy's was extremely disappointing. I will absolutely never come back here again and would not recommend anyone to dine at this restaurant. Despite the friendly service and dog-friendly policy, the poor quality of the food makes this place one to avoid.

This has been a Happy Hour go-to for the last ten years, and it never disappoints. The owners of Aberdeen barn recently took over and have made a few facelift upgrades. The menu items are delicious, both food and drinks! Of course they taste even better at happy hour. Oysters are my favorite here!

Stopped by for a Saturday shrimp poboy ...I recommend this restaurant. We had lunch there today. 1 Cuban sandwich and 1 shrimp poboy.First, the service was good. Waitress was polite and quick, and we never found ourselves thirsty. Speaking of which, my wife is an iced tea snob, and only likes the freshest tea. The iced tea is fresh, an 8/10 recommend.The fries are hand cut skinny fries. With so many restaurants switching to frozen fries, and those that hand cut serving big honking floppy rubber taters, the fries with sea salt were appreciated.The Cuban sandwich was tasty. The pickle had just the right amount of bite and really brought the sandwich together.I had the shrimp poboy. I am from Louisiana. I've eaten somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 poboys in my life. No exaggeration. Their poboy is a delicious shrimp sandwich, but it's no poboy. The bread was more of a ciabatta roll than French bread, the shrimp are thickly breaded instead of lightly breaded, and they add some sort of Dijon mustard based sauce and shredded cabbage. If you've never had a shrimp poboy, or if you just imagine you ordered shrimp sandwich, you'll love it. Good place, nice vibe, good service, quality food (if just a little bit misleading). Worth a try when you're in the area.

Captain Groovy's is a fairly hidden gem, tucked away off Shore Drive near Little Creek. We had been years ago and really enjoyed it, and honestly just forgotten about it. When family visited and stayed nearby, we had to make a return trip. Our server was so sweet and very attentive, and the food was very good. It's also pretty reasonably priced for what you get. They have one of our favorite She Crab Soups in the area and that's hard to pass up for $5 a cup. We also really enjoyed the wings, and tried the Happy Hour Oyster Americana special this time, which was equally as satisfying.They do some good happy hour and lunch specials, which can all be found on their website. Overall it's a great mixture of seafood and non seafood options, and a solid place to take a group to satisfy a variety of tastes!

Always quick service and great food!!Bar can be rowdy sometimes so we eat early to avoid that.
