Calypso Bar & Grill

This place was right next door to our hotel. They have happy hour specials. It's pretty big with an outside patio. It was raining while we were there and water was dripping the whole time right next to us. The bartenders Brett, Trent and Kevin were friendly and provided good service. We got brisket salad wraps. They were just ok. But some people seem to really like them. My wife was drinking surfsides and they were cheaper there than they are here (and they are made here in PA). So plus one star for fun bartenders.

Stopped in here during my bachelorette weekend after a stroll on the boardwalk. We put our name down on the waitlist but prior to be called, seats cleared at the bar which is where we stayed. The bartender was prompt with our food and drink orders & gave me a couple of free shots which was very nice. The patrons were also very sweet and a couple bought some rounds for my girlfriends and I. The place was very lively and got very busy throughout our time there.Great destination for a light bite or drinks with friends!

Good food for when you're drunk and want to have a big group eating somewhere. You don't need a reservation but there are some waiting times around 7 to 9 pm on Fri and Sat, but there is a TON of space available in the restaurant. If you are thinking of eating here, I would put in your name as soo n as you can and then take a good walk along the board walk of VA Beach. I ubered here, so I don't know if there is good parking around, but if you park at beach parking and walk around the beach to the restaurant, it is honestly the best thing you could do around this area.

You need the jerk chicken tacos in your life. The fish tacos were also delicious. We sat out on the patio. It definitely is a popular night time spot.

Came here on a busy Saturday for an early dinner. The space is pretty large, but I guess it's also pretty popular bc it was very busy. It took a while for our server to get to us, but once she did, everything came out pretty fast. Service is good and drinks are great! The food is hit or miss depending on what you get. The best thing we had were the fish tacos , so I highly recommend those. The jerk chicken tacos, taste nothing like jerk chicken and the carne asada tacos were lacking taste and flavor. Overall, the place is a decent place to eat, but gets packed and really busy. They have lots of tv screens with diff sports playing in the background. Bartenders are super fun and nice and service is good!

The bar was very nice, well maintained, clean and really felt like a Beach Bar! The staff were very friendly and treated you like a local. Even had several locals hanging out too. My only complaint was the drink selection was really limited. Exactly the wine selection.

A little gem to find in a packed area, and what we needed on our family trip. Their lobster mac was to die for, although me and my dad both had hiccups after so beware. If you're a light eater, I recommend splitting the lobster mac or planning to take out leftovers, it definitely wasn't a one-sitting feat. My mom also raved about the steak bites, which I also tried and they were very juicy. Our waitress Gabrielle F. was efficient and super friendly, even during one of Calypso's busier times we didn't feel rushed at all. Overall, great spot and we'll be sure to visit next time we're in the area.

Calypso has been a local spot I've frequented for years now. Happy hour has always been one of the best on the oceanfront especially being 7 days a week. The wings are some of the best around and its patio area is one of the best in the area. Great to chill and have a drink or on occasion catch some live music while you people watch what you see along the boardwalk.

Super hungry after a day of traveling. Waited twenty minutes for a table inside which was fine. Some food came out pretty quickly but several in our party waited an hour for their pasta dishes to come out. We were told the kitchen was backed up but the restaurant wasn't full. Seems like staffing was an issue. Meal was reasonably priced.

Terrible experience. The $30 crab cake was mostly dough with barely any crab, and the "fresh fruit" was canned. The place was extremely noisy, and a staff member stood on a chair to close a window during service. Service was average, but they automatically added an 18% tip. Definitely the worst restaurant I've visited on the beach
