Damien J. "Sophia and I decided to stay in the Peninsula this Saturday due to weather. It has been years since we ate here so it was time to have some lunch and catch up.We were able to get a booth upon walking in. The crowd was semi-busy which is a good thing. TVs were showing NCAA tournament games and music filled the speakers. One thing we noticed is prices have gone slightly up. Inflation perhaps. Nonetheless, we were hungry and just went with the main course. I selected a large portion of Pho Tai Nam, which consists of round steak and beef brisket. This was pretty good and filled me up, which is the norm every time I order Pho dishes. And as usual, I added some chili oil for spices. Everything was pretty good and tasted well, leaving yours truly with a full stomach. The only true knock I have on the visit is lack of service. We were served with our meals fine, but after we got our bowls they didn't come back to check in on us or see if we needed any refills of water. There were two servers and they were quite busy so that may explain it. Other than the mishap, our visit was fine. We'll definitely be back for another go around. Till next time :)"

Our lunch was just as good as it was 10 years ago- hearty sandwiches, delicious salads and terrific desserts. The carrot cake was as good as my mom's & hers is really good. But it's one of those hidden gem spots with absolutely incredible food. We got the Chicken Satay appetizer. The peanut sauce that came with it was on point! We got 3 items to share, Red Chicken Curry, Coconut chicken soup and Drunken Noodles. Legit all three were so friggen good! The depth of flavors is on point. My husband asked for his to be Thai hot and it wasn't but they never really believe he means it. It likes it to be hotter than Thai hot. He puts Thai peppers on every meal, I am not joking. So luckily they give you the spice rack you can spice it up yourself. The Chili oil is so freaking good and has fried garlic crunch in it! Literally everything was wonderful. The server was so sweet. The owners daughter I'm guessing even came to take our drink order and actually gave my husband tips on her favorite items. We have added this place to our list favorites in NC!!!"

With this hot dog eating experience, I think the majority of foodies are hot dog experts. I certainly am. They just have really good hot dogs here that I typically order in a three or four pack set. With a variety of options on the menu, I stick to two: the chili cheese dog and the Chicago dog. The chili cheese dog tastes the way it should for me, which is yummy. The Chicago dog is pretty much the same dog I would eat in Chicago do again, yummy. Add a few more of these dogs and my yummy meter is where it should be. Jay T. "This unassuming building has been home to several different restaurants in the 16 years we've been driving by. Most have been okay. Chen's is pretty good! The staff are friendly and courteous, and just walking in, the place smells delicious. Darling Bride got the King Pao chicken combo, and I got the Chicken with Schezuan sauce. Combos come with pork fried rice, and choice of a pork egg roll or soup. We opted for egg rolls AND soups, for an upcharge. My hot and sour soup was excellent- the broth had the perfect texture, that sort of thick, almost slippery, not quite gelid mouthfeel. You know what I mean. Lots of places screw that up, but not these guys. My Bride was pleased with her wonton soup- the broth wasn't salty, and the wontons were good. The egg rolls were expertly fried- piping hot and crisp, with fluffy cabbage and warm pork bits. Not at all greasy. I would have preferred hot mustard, but the duck sauce was good.My chicken was delicious; the vegetables were fresh and cooked well, and the meat was nice and tender. Darling Bride's Kung Pao was excellent, with lots of red and green peppers. The hot tea we got was good, even though it came as a bag in a cup, instead of in a pot. The server was quick to refresh it.The total for two combos, two soups, and tea for two was $24 including the tax, but before tip. We will certainly be back again!"

Jane W. "This is our new favorite Thai restaurant on the Peninsula! We usually get takeout but have dined in once. Service is always prompt and friendly. Highlights on the menu are the flavorful Tom yum soup, the pad Thai, and the green curry, which is excellent. I recently tried the khaki soi which is a rich yellow curry soup with egg noodles. It was delicious, and I look forward to ordering it again! Most of the Thai items we've tried are worth reordering. The exception was the Aroi platter--while the green papaya salad was good, the beef was very tough and gristly, so would not order that item again. Similarly, the "Asian" items are underwhelming. The shrimp shumai tasted like a reheated frozen item, and the wonton soup was average. We'll definitely be back, and there remain a number of Thai dishes on the large menu which I look forward to trying."

I had ordered the small skinny margarita and it was a decent drink. I had ordered enchiladas verdes and I wasn't real impressed. According to the menu from looking back it said it came with the guacamole salad and not rice. The dish came with rice and it made the plate looking crowded. The beef mixture was so salty to the point it tasted like licking plain salt. I didn't even had a chance to tell the server it was too salty because he check on us the minute the food came out and didn't show up again until he gave us the check. Gerald S. "i noodle seems to have done it right. Designed with the touch and feel of a Beijing huton (alley) street food hole in the wall kitchen with cherry blossoms, black brick and wood tables, they specializes in Xiao long bao (soup dumplings) noodle soup and Korean style chicken wings, among other things. There is some fusion here with other cultures, but that only improves the menu, rather than detract from it. We ordered the XLB, Honey Shrimp, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, Soy Garlic Wings and Noodles in Soy Sauce. It arrived as prepared in the kitchen in no particular priority. Service was efficient and concerned with our satisfaction. Each dish was good to great. The XLB came in bamboo steamers. The skin was elastic enough not to tear when lifted carefully with tongs. Once their top knot was bitten off and vinegar dropped into the opening, it was ready for sucking out the hot pork broth before pushing the remaining dumpling into the mouth for chew and swallow. Excellent rendition. They even provided fresh ginger shavings when asked. The Korean double fried wings were crispy with sticky sweet sauce that required extra napkins to keep the amber glue from hardening on our fingers. Double happiness. Same for the Honey Shrimp. Crunchy large prawns, deep fried, perhaps with a touch of coconut in the battered crustaceans. The Beef Soup was a large bowl with lots of tender beef, veggie and enough chili paste to turn the liquid a nice shade of red. Son loved it. The Soy Noodles were long and al dente. A little difficult to lift from the bowl with chop sticks, but worth the effort in taste and texture. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience, made better by the sincerity of the servers who brought the food and stopped by to check on our satisfaction. Definitely a fun and worthwhile experience for us, and even a surprise given that we were in Newport News! Kudos to everyone responsible for putting this together. This concept has legs."
