Victoria D. "I visited Union Alehouse with a large party, and overall, it was a great experience. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, making it a great spot for a relaxed night out with friends or family. Our waitress did a fantastic job handling our big group, ensuring that food and drinks arrived on time. Despite the size of our party, everything came out quickly and correctly, which is always impressive. The service was friendly, and the staff seemed genuinely welcoming. As for the food, it did not disappoint. I had the fig and goat cheese pizza, and it was absolutely delicious. The balance of sweet and savory flavors, along with the crispy crust, made for a memorable dish. We shared the poutine which was incredible! Everyone at our table seemed to enjoy their meals as well, with a variety of options to choose from. The only real downside to the experience was that our table became overcrowded with dirty plates and cups. Unfortunately, our server didn't clear anything away throughout the meal, so by the time we were finished, the table was overly cluttered. It would have made for a more comfortable dining experience if the table had been tidied throughout the night.Despite that, we still had a great time. If you're looking for a laid back spot with solid food and a good drink selection, Union Alehouse is worth a visit."

It's tucked away and it has cheap and TASTY drinks. The beer is very flavorful and has a wide variety. ItEverybody seems to be enjoying themselves. There were several other locations involved along High St, but it started here at Baron's where their porch and 2 inside tables were taken over. So props to Baron's for supporting the pets in need and hosting! The only reason I docked a star here was the heat was on way too high. Everyone was hot. Otherwise this was a well managed, busy bar in the early evening on a weekend night. The staff were kind and my drink was awesome! They have awesome happy hour pricing, I literally did a double take when I got my bill. They have some of the best chicken tenders I have had in a while. With a rich batter that's tasty and not all crunch. It was easily 2 portions of chicken! Fries were awesome and sauces a-ok. Baron's is on my list of places to come back to, and I don't even live close to Portsmouth."

Abi M. "We had a good time on our first visit to Rare Olde Times. It had true pub vibes, a rarity. Food was good, beers were poured well. There is a kids menu too, so for our three little ones that was a good surprise. The reason I knocked one star off is that the service was inconsistent though it wasn't very busy when we got there early on a saturday evening (we showed up before 5). It was my husband's birthday so we decided to get dessert too. Our server described a milky way cake they had (like a milky way bar but in a cake) and we ordered a slice to share with the table but fifteen minutes later desserts finally came out and it was a cup with angel food cake, whipped cream and fruit instead? we asked, is this the milky way cake? and the waitress delivering said yes and walked away. We just ate it but it wasn't what was described to us, so I think they must have been out of the cake and given us something else without saying but just tried to pull it off? Strange. After we got the desserts we didn't get checked in on again and had to flag down a different waitress when we couldn't see ours for our check so we could leave."

First off, the bartender was awesome, the chef was funny, and the regulars weren't afraid of new faces. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with pineapple which was perfectly cooked and my friend got the shrimp poboi which she said was awesome. Second I have never felt more safe in a bar in our area. I really felt like they staff doesn't do drama and are really looking out for their patrons which was really refreshing compared to others *cough* Hoss' *cough* I plan on taking my family and friends here and telling anyone who will listen to me about this place. I really hope that people support and love this business as much as I do as it's a great local spot that has all the tools to do well they just some word of mouth to get people in the door"

From the smells of the wood burning oven to the softly playing music, it was perfect for a nice lunch. Our waitress was friendly and quick to arrive to take our orders. Dad and I both got some drinks and ordered off the restaurant week menu. Dad got the she crab soup and the club sandwich. He said both were delicious. I got the lumpia, which unfortunately had peppers in it. I also got the steak with parmesan risotto. It was topped with a peppercorn cream sauce and fried onions. I also got some roasted broccoli on the side in a balsamic vinegar, yum. So delicious. The menu includes a brownie sundae, which I took to go, and it was quite tasty as well. I have to say the raspberry crush drink that I got was quite the treat and made me feel very happy and floaty."

Maria C. "This is a pretty cool venue! Babe and I visited twice before I decided to write my review! So this latest visit was on a Friday night about 6pm. It was super chill around this time and this was probably because they just opened their doors for happy hour and the live band. We were able to get a booth seat right near the stage where the local band (Ramonta and friends) were performing. Oh how I could forget...the entry fee... FREE!!!! Let's see...not too crowded, FREE entry, FREE buffet, happy hour drink specials...oh yeah, I am loving this so far.I am not sure how long this club/lounge has been in existence, but I was completely unaware of its existence prior to coming. I can remember driving by some years ago and noticed this was a restaurant once before. But now, they have made great use of the space. So you walk up to the door...security is waiting to check ID and your purse ladies. Not sure if it ever gets slammed, but the two times I have visited there has been no wait in line. So I visited once before on a Wednesday night about 10 pm and again a few Fridays ago just as the club opened. Nevertheless, we walked in and straight ahead is the bar and kitchen area. There is seating located on the right and left side of the club. The right side, I would consider your low key area, so if you want to check out things sit here. But over here, you can't see the dance floor area. Therefore, you may need to get up and roam to check out the whole scene. The left side, where the stage is located, you have about 10 booth seats. These booths also surround the dance floor that's a pretty decent size. You can also view the parking lot from this area...window seating if you will. The DJ booth is located over here too.You can also catch the game on one of their many TVs in the spot. Now if this spot fills quickly it will be standing room only and that could be an issue because it's not super spacey, but just enough space to chill, eat, and dance.Capacity maybe about 150 comfortably.Oh the food...it was tasty. Before I found out they offered a happy hour buffet, we had already ordered food. But it was crazy because about 5 items I ordered previously were unavailable...huh??? What do you mean, you don't have ANYTHING I am ordering...sheeeeesh!!! But they had plenty of fried chicken though - aye yi yi!!!Oh well, we ordered fried drumettes and fried shrimp. So yeah I mentioned how not busy they were and how they JUST OPENED the doors on that Friday evening...so the kitchen clearly wasn't ready to serve. It took 45 mins to get a order of two wing baskets and a basket of shrimp...fries sold separately.Whew... despite the severe wait time, I look forward to returning. I can't knock a club for not having food ready. Now if it was restaurant and nothing more, oh we would have left E-ME-JET-LEE!!!!I am not a club hopper at this age, but back in the day.......owwww, this would have been my lay low spot!!! Not too turnt* not too live, but just enough vibe and drink and get your two step on and leave feeling niiiiice! So yeah, a nice, chill spot with live music and a poppin DJ, I'm with it every now and then. As a result, this place foots the bill - SOLID.Not sure of the age requirements, but I'm guessing 25 and up...but mature crowd indeed - those I partied with on both nights were A OK!!!Private parking lot - Drinks Good - Waitstaff Friendly - I'd recommend you visit here if you enjoy urban music, hip hop, RnB - similar genres.Have fun :)"

Vin D. "We were on our vacation in Virginia Beach and being a hardcore Karaoke aficionado my friend was desiring a venue where he could get his Karaoke on. Unfortunately, we found there were limited options around the beach front area, so after finding out about this place, we decided to give it a try and ventured inland.Hate to say upon first glance we were leery as from the outside it had a local dive bar vibe and, as obvious tourists, we did not know how the patrons would react to us. However, after our night was done, I honestly have to say that the staff here were among the nicest, kindest, and most welcoming that I have ever come across of any business venue that I can recall. From the moment we entered, we were treated like we were family. Our waitress was so nice, outgoing and down-to-earth. She had such a laid back pleasant way about her that put all of us at ease. Oh and the Karaoke was great! Coming from a Karaoke layman I'll say it was a spirited crowd and everyone was so encouraging, even when I went up there, being referred to as a 'Cherryoake' in tongue-in-cheek manner by the DJ, and proved to everyone who the all-time worst Karaoker was, with the worst voice to boot!Oh and Inga was also very kind to us and even gave us all a sampling of her homemade soup to go, which was delicious. Only regret I have, I'll say we as I am certain my friends share similar sentiments, is for judging a book by it's cover. Yes, this place is well off the beaten path, nowhere near the main tourist drag, and as a result, seemed intimidating to us uninformed tourists not having a clue. We were proven wrong by Inga and her warm and pleasant staff. Thank you for an awesome night!"

Staff is friendly plus knowledgeable of menu. I got a nice, flakey fish n' chips with a local lager to wash it down. My guy got the Reuben with a side of onion rings. Some of the rings onions were stringy but the beer-batter breaded component plus dipping it between ranch or tartar sauce was tantalizing. Very filling meal plus good company made for a nice dinner. Each day of the week brings something engaging and entertaining for the masses like karaoke Sundays at 9pm. Also they may need to change out the air filters or clean the vents...after the meal we had trouble breathing through our noses/got stuffy but alas, could have been allergies I reckon. The service was decent; the food arrival was timed well. I think the staff was helping each other out bc we basically interacted with 3 different people. Today, I'm going to focus in on just the beverage side of things... although I saw a chicken sandwich going out that looked absolutely fabulous. So, I bet you didn't know that this spot has one of Ghent's all-time best craft mixologists in Mark. I typically don't use that term. Mixologist. Usually, those who refer to themselves thusly suffer from delusions of grandeur. In this case? It's 100% deserved. If you want to have a delicious drink -- and I mean delicious in every way -- go see Mark at the Taphouse. Recently, I dropped in to see what was up after work, which in this case, coincided with the end of a brutal stretch of work. I'm guessing I looked tired. So, I told Mark to surprise me. He handed me a beverage known as Coffee! Coffee! Coffee! And... it delivered on every level. It was delicious. I'll have dreams about this drink if I ever again sleep. Also, if you haven't been to Tap House in a while, you need to return. The owners have poured their heart and soul into this place, and it looks fantastic. I'll add another review for the food, which again, looks delicious, once I get around to ordering food. But for now, suffice it to say that they have one of the best makers of craft cocktails in the 757, slinging drinks from behind the bar. Cheers!"
