"I saw this restaurant while driving on E. Little Creek. It's on the same side of the street as Saul's Sandwich shop. What called my attention was a sign that said "tortilleria". That was motivation enough to turn around and head inside. There was a scannable code outside the building, but I didn't see tortillas. They make corn tortillas in house and have a tortilla company from VA they buy flour ones from. I snagged the last pack at 6$. Excited to try them out. If I would have known it was a rotisserie chicken place, I would have waited until dinner to bring home for the family. When you walk in you're greeted by smiling faces and a small Mercado that sells rice, beans, spices, and cheeses from Ecuador, El Salvador. Next time I go I'll take a pic of the little tiendita. I didn't see what I ordered on the menu but pulled it up via FB. Empanadas de pollo hecho con maíz. I ordered a couple and didn't realize they come with 4 per order. Tengo comida para la cena now. Yum! The empanadas took a little while to make but when I saw they were packing it fresh. I'd wait forever because fresh, flavorful and generous chicken filling. This more of a take out spot with one bar table 2/ 2 chairs if you decide to eat in. We'll be back, we have to try thier fresh made to order fried chicken.Thank you!!Sensory info:The shop is small with confined space for the market side of the store. It smells of fried chicken and of cooked meats. There are a few tvs with the menu on them- they do change info so if you're looking for a stationary menu they have those at the registers. Also, outside is a QR code with the menu (I used it o get an idea of the foods available) There is a display of raw meat in the carnicería that may give an "ick" for those who aren't comfortable seeing that sort of thing. Lots of pickled veggies (you can ask to leave it out if it's not your thing). Very clean and saw the veggies/ tortillas are stored in a completely different spot away from the raw meats."
"I told my husband about this spot while visiting Smithfield for the day last weekend and he was super excited to stop by on our way back home for some jerky. I went inside with him to have a browse and they had some nice selection of meats - they should it's a butcher shop lol - as well as some various ingredients for BBQ and chili like beans, onions, mass quantities of vinegar and more. It's small inside but def large enough for what they need with a good selection of meats and a few other sundries. They had some Virginia roasted peanuts available as well jerky by the front. The jerky is soooo good! If you want some quality cuts of meat from a local butcher - this is your spot!"
"Leslie is AMAZING!!!!!!! Seriously the BEST! The bread is fresh baked, the mayo homemade, meats home cured, the service splendid! The sandwiches are some of the best ever. Great prices, great service. The best food we have had in OBX. Gonna be huge- get here before it blows up ;)P.S. we got the Brie LT. p.p.s took great restrain to not eat the sandwich wrap paper."
"Apple picking season has come and gone. Luckily this farm was on my radar. Found it through pictures from our CM Yoonie so I say Thank you Soo Much!!! There are many farms that offer the Apple picking experience, but the drive was several hours away, and then factor in the rise of gasoline prices it would cost a few hundred to pick an Apple lol. Signage is visible almost everywhere as we got closer to the farm in terms of turning right and left, and then parking onto the field not to far from the corn stalks. Apple picking on a Friday morning was only open for a few hours. I would recommend going on their Facebook page for updates or calling before heading over. Customer service is great here and everyone was friendly. One of the employees told us to walk past where we parked the car to a little small shack for the Apple picking experience. There we picked a small bushel bag that was estimated to be $15-$18 to fill since it was weighed by the pound. The second bag was $40-$45 and we decided against that since there's only the two of us. We walked up and down the orchard just picking where we were allowed, since the choices varied weekly by availability. It was a lot of fun and we took pictures without having to battle the crowds. Once done we walked over to the sunflower field and picked an unopened one to cut to take home. The hubs convinced me that I would enjoy the blossoming of the sunflower and I did! Bring a bucket or bottle with water to settle your cuttings in so it doesn't wilt in the car. It's priced the same per flower regardless of how small or big. Oh and the farm store offers apples to purchase for those that do not want to pick. There is abundance of corn, cookies, salsa, dressing, bbq sauce, meats, and breads to choose from. We settled on the Rosemary loaf, apple cider, 6 corn which we wished we had bought more, and a dozen and a half of mini donuts. I chose the apple cider, salted caramel, and pumpkin spice flavors. The size are perfect for toddlers, and those weighing their food IMO lolEverything was excellent and consumed within a few days. Next time we would bring our cooler to take home some of their sealed meats. Oh they also have ice-cream. I'd try to get their sourdough loaf on our next visit. :)Support local business and farms!!!!"
"This spot is the best place in the area to come get your grass fed beef and pastured pork, all local and raised here. They constructed this "shack" to give a storefront to their meat selection alongside Cartwright Farms, and it's a great place to shop. They also sell local honey, jams, pickles, and other jarred goods, along with some swag and other goodies. It's pretty serene out there too!"
"Awesome place to have finally opened to the public! Yet another great option in town for fresh meats and custom cuts. They have the variety of beef cuts from flanks to NY strips, bone-in ribeyes, and tomahawks, filets as well as ground beefs. In addition, they have all your pork products including store-made sausage meats and links. Of course there is also a selection of chicken as well as cured ham and pork products, and cheeses from Jennette Brothers. The staff is quite friendly and I definitely look forward to coming back again and again.Entrance changed to Poindexter Street instead of N Water Street. There is a fenced in gravel lot on that side."
"Very good butcher and meat supplier high quality meats that you do get in grocery stores. Mike is friendly guy and wiling to help with what ever you need."
"A great little butcher \ meat market in Cheriton VA. Fresh organic chickens, hand cut fresh steaks while you wait, fresh ground burger, also some fresh veggies. A small shop but also offers some frozen items and now has beer and wine. They do a really good job and we usually always buy our fresh meats there now. It is a good idea to call ahead because they do sell out of items, especially the fantastic whole organic chickens. If your anywhere near Cape Charles this is the place to buy your fresh meats. They also have things like fresh Turkey wings, and pork chops."

This establishment sells meat already packaged not sure if you can request a cut? I didn't see any glass market meat coolers that you can pick your meat and make the cut request. It was clean and organized but sparse on items. I purchase county sage sausage I cooked the next day they were pretty good. Jen is long gone but there's enough to get items in a pinch it would not be a go to stop.

This place was recommended to my husband and I, so we stopped in while we were in town and it exceeded any expectations we could have had. Leslie is a very friendly and welcoming owner who has poured her heart and soul into her business! All of her selections are from across the world, and pictures don't do it justice. So many fresh, rich flavors. Top tier meat, cheese & wine selections. We will be back!

I make sure to hit up the strawberry fields here each year but I actually had never done apple picking til this year. I figured what better way to start off fall? Though the morning I went was hot still it was fun and very perfect for picking. I was super happy to take home a few pounds of apes to enjoy. I made a delicious apple cake and an apple pie. Plus I still have a few apples. Now in the summer their strawberry fields are top notch. And the corn maze is a lot of fun in the fall. I recommend them year round to enjoy the fresh produce and tasty local treats they have. The strawberry butter is divine and the apple cider is perfection.

The Vaughan Family has been farming and living on the same land since the early 1700's. Sustainable farming is not just a phrase, it is a way of life passed down from generation to now the 8th generation. They have been named a Century Farm in Virginia, and now also a Bicentennial Farm and are proud to still be actively farming. Sustainable farming is a way of ensuring that the land, and all its resources are maintained for future generations. Promoting soil health, managing water runoff and using natural fertilizing techniques are all ways that they are being good stewards of the land. This has always been a way of life, but the business of Coastal Cattle began as an idea of their then12 year old daughter in 2014, and has expanded since then. She wanted to use her knowledge of cattle gained through local 4H livestock club and start a herd. Her very first project steer at the age of 10 was a Hereford and she instantly fell in love with the breed. They are docile, easy to work with, great for children to be around and of course beautiful! She and her sister helped to pick out the first bred heifers and cows that started Coastal Cattle. The original idea was to start raising pure-bred show cattle to be used for our local area 4H Livestock shows as well as other regional livestock competitions. Showing cattle is a lot of work, and a lot of fun, but eventually they started thinking bigger. They were hearing the desires of so many people who want to know where their food is coming from. People want to be in control of what they put into their bodies, and they quickly saw and understood the need for a good product. So expanding into the direct marketing of the beef produced by the ever expanding herd was the natural progression of the farm. Incorporating rotational grazing, and the herd into other farming practices has proven beneficial for the land and the farm. They go hand in hand, crops and livestock. Not only are they producing a good product for the consumers, but they're protecting our natural resources as well.

"Best sandwiches around!!! Reminds me of a NY deli!! If you get the works on a sandwich no extra charges or fees. They always go above and beyond for customers! They also have a great selection of quality meat/cuts with great prices! Hands down the BEST sub in Virginia Beach!"
"Not to be confused with Slickfield, which is a field full of oil. Not baby oil unfortunately.Smithfield was a good company, and I don't mean great but I mean good, for hams and other meats, for some things more than others, but nothing moreso than their hams. They also made good Vienna Sausage - and they still do, which is why I gave them three stars. However since the foreign ownership came in, the standards and customer service have slipped (not that they were the best in the US, but they were passable), and a lot of the ingredients have too. They also don't stand by a lot of the guarantees that made the company great. So while I give them three for now - which used to be four or five - in the near future their rating could go down to 2 or 1 if they don't discover the American business practices that made them great, and blend them with the foreign ownership capital that has allowed them to take over this company.I'm not saying American practices are the best, far from it. But in this case, when they were American owned, they were doing better by their customers."
"Great place with awesome quality meats. If you are within 90 minutes of this location, It is worth the drive. I drive from Norfolk just to shop for my meat here and enjoy that country goodness. They also will ship out of town. Really good people!"
"Jeff's Country Market in Heathsville, VA has some of the freshest produce in the area. Every time we go down to Virginia to visit family - Jeff's Country Market is the first place we stop to stock up for the week. Some of the best crabs you'll find in the area as well!"
"Pork and pork products.Did you ever watch the Simpson's where Krusty the Klown drools over pork? That would be me in this place... I'll have to remember that though when I'm on a gurney waiting for a bypass someday...In any case, this place specializes in - well pork. Hams and bacons in every permutation you can think of: cooked, uncooked, with and without bones, sliced, smoked, sugared, salt cured and whatever else there may be.Grab yourself a cured bacon in a cloth sack and you'll saunter out of there feeling like a settler from the colonial days - hack off a few slices, fry it up and after the initial chest pains subside you'll agree that these are some really good bacons... salty as all hell, but sooo good...They also do a mail order business in the event you do not want to drive 6 hours to your doom...Parking lot."
"Southern Packing has been in business for well over 30 years. I'm not sure exactly how long, but I remember passing them from the highway back in the late 80s. They still continue to sell top quality meats of all cuts and eggs. I picked up 2 cases of eggs for less than what 2 top distributors were selling them for. They were super nice enough to put the cases in my car. Every time I call they are super friendly on the phone."
"I didn't get any pics this time around but this is my go to for hoagies(or subs as other people call them) on the island. I called in my order since I had a pretty big order and they had it ready in a half an hour. I'm from philly where we have many good delis and this one is pretty good."
"Awesome little family owned butcher shop. Fresh beef, pork, elk, venison, bison etc...Always friendly, and excellent customer service. Thus far, I've purchased some of their ground bison, fresh bacon, turkey, and pork.Holidays coming up and you want something fresh not frozen???They also take orders for fresh Turkey, I ordered a 14-16 lb bird and got a 16lb lovely Turkey. Give this place a try if you're looking to support small business and get good cuts of meat at a good price. Service: excellentMeat options: Turkey, rabbit, beef, bison, chicken, pork, elkCleanliness: very cleanSmall business / family owned"
"I stopped by Central Meats (aka Where's the BEEF) located at 1120 Kempsville Road in the heart of Chesapeake. They have a great selection of good quality beef, chicken, pork and many other items. I've been here many times and I've never had a bad experience. They also offer freezer stuffer deals in many different varieties for families of all sizes, at bargain prices.Check out Central Meats, you will be happy that you did and you can rest assured that you are supporting local businesses."
"If you're looking for a special cut of beef, this is the place. Small store that is only open on 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the month.Fresk eggs, nice cuts of pork and beef. Bought some beef shanks for simmering with cabbage, carrots, onions, potato, corn, greens, and a dash of peppercorns. Yum!!!!!!! A long way to drive but well worth it for me. Will come back again."
"I needed smoked turkey legs cut into one inch pieces. I couldn't find another butcher shop to do it for me or one that sold smoked turkey legs, which was weird considering it's Thanksgiving season. The price was more than reasonable per lb and they were very helpful on the phone when I went to order ahead.I am just now picking them up and they look perfect. I went in early to get them so they wouldn't be super busy and I could get in and out. The guys were nice and comedic per usual. Have to start coming back out for our meat packs again. I really appreciate them cutting them for me so I can make my smothered turkey legs this year. They were also very fast in helping the ladies that were in before me and had my order already ready for pickup. I love this business."
