Damien J. "This international spot has been a go-to for Sophia and myself for years. We come here to buy ingredients for homemade egg rolls and fried rice and a few other items. So this visit was no different. The first item we went to seek was bean sprouts. Unfortunately, the bags they had looked brown in some spots. So we had to pass on buying any until the next day or try to check out other local spots. Luckily, they had other items like spring egg roll wraps, seaweed and ramen noodles for Sophia. They also had t-bone steaks availble for a reasonable price which we could air fry at home.Even though we struck out with finding bean sprouts, we managed to get enough groceries for our upcoming meal. The service was good as always with reasonable foot traffic and the vibe was calm with no rushing present. Just a normal Satuday for shopping. Till next time :)"

Eric C. "Smells just like home.... If my home were the 99 Ranch Market in Monterey Park or the Shun Fat Chinese Supermarket next to the Ocean Star. They are located in the same lot that Pho 79 is and is operated by Vietnamese owners. They have all the can foods, bottled ingredients, fresh produce that you would need to cook your asian meal. They have your fish and oyster sauce, all forms of soy sauce, fermented shrimp paste, all your Lee Kum Kee items, packaged curry, sriracha hot sauce, pockey sticks..... and any other stereotyped item you'd find in an asian grocery store. They have a wide fresh selection of vegetables commonly found in asian dishes and also have a fish section (but they aren't alive... but I was assured that they were fresh). They also have all the utensils/ pots and pans/ steamers/ rice cookers that you can imagine. Not to forget woks either. If you're like me from a big city where chinese supermarkets are weekly trips for your families back home, this little store will bring back memories as soon as that smell hits you when you open the front door.Sorry I didn't get the hours just yet, but I remember most of the days it closes at 9pm except Sunday probably. I'll get it next time."

A lot of the grocery stores are starting to carry a lot of these same items and most times a little cheaper. But what keeps us coming here would have to be their pastries! My favorite being the one with guava inside! At only $1 it'll definitely keep me coming back. It's also nice just to have that Spanish feel as soon as you step in. You cannot get that at a regular grocery store. Another plus about this place is the cooking ware! Most Spanish food is made in a particular pot. Whenever I see this I instantly know it's for the Spanish foods my mom cooks. Definitely stop in to take a look at what they carry, you'll be happy with a lot of their single serve Spanish drinks, such as a cold Malta, and also snacks like the plantain chips, one of my favorites."

Lourdes V. "During a recent trip to VA I was on a mission to find pan dulce. After searching Yelp for all the keywords I found nothing. I walked into a busy Mexican restaurant and asked the hostess for an assist and she gave me the info for this spot.Apparently there are not a lot of "latin" food stores in the area. This place though had fresh pan dulce in a variety of flavor options. Perfect addition to your morning cafecito.Of course I had to check every aisle for other Mexican cooking necessities like chiles, harina (maseca) for tortillas, arepas, pan, corn husks for tamales, chips, cookies, Goya products, hot sauce, abuelita chocolate, they have a freezer with pupusas, empanadas, guayabas, and another fridge with desserts like tres leches cake and flan. They have money gram for sending money and phone cards. I would recommend this place if you're looking for pan dulce or you get a craving for something from back home."

Gerald S. "INCOMPLETEKundan International Grocery is a South Asian food market. We stopped in during our search for a certain brand of sucking candy made in Indonesia, and only available in a few retail shops in and around Newport News, VA. Kundan isn't one of them, unfortunately. The store is undergoing major renovations. Some aisle are inaccessible and many are simply empty awaiting completion of the work. The folks we spoke with tried to be helpful, but they couldn't find what we were after. Given the upheaval in the store, with tripping hazards abounding, they probably would be wise to close their doors and ask for temporary forgiveness as they endeavor to upgrade and modernize the facility. I am sure their customers would understand and appreciate the concern for their wellbeing. I know I would."

Wendy L. "E Mart is located in Virginia Beach off Princess Anne and Baxter. I stopped by here after visiting a church across the street to check out what they had here. I couldn't believe how huge this market was!!It was an international market with plenty of Asian and Middle Eastern products. I was literally blown away by how many aloe drinks they carried - plus another aisle full of drinks. And not just that, they had a variety of other products, for example, a whole section of just dehydrated mushrooms. It was just so fun to peruse the aisles. It was clean and spacious. I didn't see any workers on the floor but the cashier was kind and friendly. They also have plenty of parking here.Overall, pretty cool spot if you want a selection of products and know what you're looking for. Otherwise, you'll get lost in the sea of products. Of course, it's also neat to find new gems if you have the time."

Damien J. "When Sophia and I shopped at E-Mart, their bean sprouts appeared to have brown spots in each available bag. So we did a search for other Asian food markets and happened to find this one which is tucked away off Warwick Blvd. Would we find any available items to use for cooking on our day off?We were the only customers inside. It's smaller than E-Mart but if you're looking for items to use for Asian foods, you definitely found the right place. Asian music was playing throughout the market and the vibe was so quiet. It's cool when you're only one of two customers with no foot traffic in sight. And we were able to find bean sprouts which were fresh. And to my surprise, they even had Cafe Du Monde coffee up front. Being from Louisiana, one tradition was to head to a Cafe Du Monde spot and chow down on beignets and frozen cafe au lait and sometimes I had hot coffee. I didn't buy any, but it warmed my heart to see it here in Virginia. I know stores carry it nationwide, but maybe I was a bit naive.....ha!! Anyway, we were able to go in and out of the store with our bean sprouts just like that. When in doubt, look for some backup stores. And that's what we did. A small market, but one where you'll find whatever you're looking for. Till next time :)"

Its a store and restaurant with different Middle eastern foods, breads, drinks, and etc. When we walked in we were greeted and offered menus. We got the chicken gyro, chicken tawook, and beef gyros. I also ordered a side of rice and tatziki with pita chips. The prices are very reasonable.. I went and waited in the car. The food was ready in about 8 minutes and the gentlemen brought it out to my car, which was very nice.I liked the chicken gyro. It was different textures because of the toppings with a good taste and crunch. The chicken tawook was also good. I liked the beef as well, it was tender and the sauce on it was good. The hummas and tzatziki sauce tasted good also. It made the gyros better. I like that the gyros are rolled kinda long and thin so its easy to eat without everything spilling out. You could easily eat it and drive. The rice was cooked just right. It had no flavor at all, but it was somehow still good... I'd return to try other things. If your looking to try some different foods, this is a good place to try... I got some drinks and a few were good, but one was to sweet. I had fun picking out random things to try though. 4 stars!!"

Use Google translate or ask them to grab someone who is bilingual to help make your experience shopping easier. One side of the store sells day to day items, small case with bakery items and on the other a mini grocery store offering ethnic food options. The space is narrow so if you have big hips, turn sideways so that you don't tear up as you peruse the store.Lunch specials are offered and you can get it to go or dine in. Yoonie L. "This store is great! Mi Rancho Tienda Latina (MRTL) is next door to La Taqueria Hacienda. I stumbled upon it when I ordered take out at La Taqueria Hacienda (s/o to Theresa M for putting it on my radar). There is a direct indoor passage from La Taqueria Hacienda to MRTL, my youngest and I went to take a peek while we waited for our takeout order. It's a small store but lots of great stuff packed into it. At the front, there are some freezers and fridges with frozen treats (paletas, mangonadas etc) and other prepared goods from local businesses like flan and tres leches from Jessy's. The first front aisle is dedicated to a showcase of Mexican baked goods also brought in from local bakeries. The next few aisles are filled with grocery store items. I love seeing the products that familiar brands release in other markets. Will have to go back for the Palmolive fruity bar soap. It smelled so good ! All the way back, is the butcher with all sorts of meats, both plain and marinated. After we did a once over to see what the store offers, I couldn't help myself with the baked goods. I see/hear about baked goods and it's a trigger word (a good trigger). My eyes start to glaze over and I start making my way over LOL. I stopped a staff member and I asked her about all the goods. I wish she could truly understand the level of my enthusiasm and curiosity and I think she did the best she could to describe all the items, but I made do with what she shared and I just went with what looked good. She said that the case under the La Sabrosita had been delivered that day, so she didn't need to tell me twice. We got 4 things (these are not the proper names as I have no idea, just descriptions):- sugar donut with custard - classic sugar yeasty donut with custard, except, they don't poke a hole and fill it, they slice it in half and slather the custard. I loved this one. - puff pastry with cream inside and then a thin layer of icing type coating on top, and then rolled back in the puff pastry crumbs? These type of pastries tend to be on the dry side. It was pretty straight forward and it was pretty big.- cake/bread with sesame seeds - this reminds me of a homemade pound cake (not store bought) or madeleine type texture, not cake and not bread, in the middle. The size is pretty large (picture those jumbo muffins at Costco that you have to buy two packs) and it's topped with sesame seeds. Great morning item. I loved this one too.- Cinnamon cake - there was a thin layer of a cinnamon mixture at the bottom, majority of the cake/bread and then the top had a crack-ly crust, piped with what looked like a cinnamon stick, but it's actually another edible cake thing. On the drier side, but more meant to be another morning item with coffee or tea. My youngest loved this one with her milk. The items were not small either. The best part of all this, was when I went to pay, I was floored at the final total. I thought she had made a mistake. It was SOOOOO cheap! It was $8 and some change. The girl chuckled at my disbelief and she said the price had gone up. Well, don't mind if I do. I'll definitely be back and check out their meats back there too. Enjoy friends and Happy Latinx Heritage Month!"

Then again, it was their "soft opening" or at least that's what the sign said. You can tell they are still in the process of stocking the shelves. I did notice they have a pretty large produce selection. They showcased a number of vegetables and fruits that I'd never heard of. They have a large selection of meats and seafood. I was taken aback by the live animals they had on display. I saw frogs, eel, jellyfish, and of course all types of fish. They are currently stocking some of the shelves in their frozen aisle so there was little on this side. The lady at checkout was very friendly. The store was clean. I'll definitely be coming back...hopefully, they will have everything in by then!"

Yoonie L. "This is probably the OG Korean grocery store in the area, if I am not mistaken. On our first tour here, back in the early 2010s, this was my go-to spot for Korean grocery items and fresh produce. We also used to live in Virginia Beach back then, so it was closer to us at the time.Unfortunately, I don't go to Grand Mart as much anymore, since we've moved back. Not because I don't like them anymore, it's more because there are various other "International" store and marts to choose from. I mean, geez, even Kroger has more Korean products, so it's even more convenient to find items. Having said that, here are some of my fave things about Grand Mart and some things to note:- lot more traffic at this store, so I get more of a choatic shopping experience here. Also, because of high traffic, more likelihood of items turning over faster. However, still keep an eye out when picking products and produce. They do a great job at adding a wide selection of stuff, but random, ingredients/produce that don't sell fast, tend to be either close to expiry or just bruised or even spoiled.- large seafood section with cleaning services (score!)- great selection of cuts of meat - great selection of Latin products as well- huge housewares section. You can find Korean kitchen items, this always brings back memories for me here. Seeing all those big buckets they use for kimchi making, random tools, shower towels LOL, earthenware bowls, BBQ sets, hot pot etc.- My most favorite thing of all is the Eating Corner, their food court. It's actually a pretty decent place to eat some Korean food. They have also added their "Mochi & Mochi" brand that the launched a while back at their Newport News location. Only boba for now, no mochi donuts yet. I've also noticed that they have added "Hencredibles" which I thought was random, but they serve Hot Nashville chicken sandwiches. Back in the day, their cook made one of the best jjamppongs (Korean seafood noodle soup), so I used to go there all the time to take it to go. In summary, a bit more chaotic shopping experience, lots of choices and variety of goods, housewares and don't sleep on the food court!Enjoy, Friends and never stop exploring!"

She let me know that Mondays and Wednesdays are when they receive their shipment for new inventory. She came here 40 years ago and have had Ichiban open and in business for 30+ years! Incredible knowing how much courage and patience it must have taken her to move here in the US and have a store successful enough to stay open for 3+ decades. I was able to stock up on everything I needed to make Japanese cooking. Everything was competitively priced to other rival stores and it was clean and organized. Terry T. "It's been a few years since I last reviewed Asia Grocery. The new ownership and management installed a few years ago have made some improvements. I've been shopping here for about 25 years now and hadn't seen much change in all that time. It had been allowed to deteriorate a little over the years but since new ownership took over it has been cleaned up and well maintained. Inventory, prices, organization, etc... are basically the same as before. The biggest difference is in the attitude of the staff which is now decidedly more friendly and approachable. If you have a question they are happy to provide answers. The current health pandemic caused Asia Grocery to close for a few months. My wife and I certainly missed them and are very happy they are again open for business. Like most Asian markets in this part of the 757, Asia Grocery has a wide variety of products crammed into a small space with crowded aisles. If you are pushing a shopping cart don't expect to be able to pass another customer with a cart in an aisle because most of the aisles are just too narrow. The aisles are considerably wider and easier to navigate on the side of the store where they sell fresh produce, fresh and frozen fish and seafood, frozen meats and many other frozen items. The fresh produce selection is decent and quality is good. The fresh fish and seafood is kept on ice and always of good quality. They have good prices on live blue crabs, much lower than at local seafood markets. Freezer boxes always appear to be in good working order keeping their huge selection of a great variety of frozen products ready to purchase. Anyone for durian? You can get it here, both the whole fruit or just the tasty flesh. Canned, bottled and dry goods are very plentiful with a very wide selection of products from China, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, Korea and more. A wide selection of rice in bulk or smaller bags is plentiful and they have a huge selection of noodles. In addition togrocery items they carry a good supply of pots and pans, rice cookers, dishes, incense and other household items.Overall, Asia Grocery is a pretty decent place to shop. Prices are competitive across the board. Some prices are lower than their competitors, some are higher, most are about the same. They carry some items I can't find elsewhere and seem to have most everything my wife and I look for when shopping for Asian groceries. The store is located in the Hunter's Mill Shoppes which is a small shopping center with a common parking lot which affords ample parking for Asia Grocery and the other stores in the shopping center. The parking lot is generally free of trash and debris. They are open seven days a week which makes it pretty convenient."
