"Love this little local market!! I remember when it was Lukhard's! This is an exclusive, unique store stocked with hard to find items but also carries your basic staples and sundries. The prepared food and deli section is amazing! The cheese case is gloriously grate - you won't find a cheddar selection in town. It's that Gouda! Ok, ok, I know what you're thinking: "Brie done with the cheese puns!" One more thing: for real, don't pasteurize (pass your eyes) over the cheese case... heavy groan! I'm done! The impressive wine choices are popping and beer area is "ale" that and a bag of chips! There's a decent organic section, a fresh produce and floral department but one of my favorite parts to this store is the incredible bakery and candy department. It's smallish but mighty! This is one of the few spots in RVA where you can find Grandma's of New England coffee cakes which are fantabulous! Check it out! It's sweet!! I love the little café as well to come enjoy a respite for lunch, coffee, tea or just to relax and people watch. The check out is a breeze, and if you spend $50 you get your choice of a free product from the shelf on your way out. The place is always clean and the staff is uber helpful! The parking is a bit precarious so take your time going in and out. Nevertheless, Libbie Market is one of the best little shops around!"
"Stopped by this deli briefly because we were in need of some lunch, and were pleasantly surprised. Best hoagie I have had in a long time!! Very personable, family owned deli. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be back!"
"Out of the way, hole in the wall, bodega style home of awesomeness! Price point is good and they deliver a quality product. Growing up up north I'm used to the local sandwich shop being a hub of the neighborhood. The Italian sub all the way was my choice sub...so big it was two meals. Tons of meat and cheese toasted. Don't pass up on the chance for good eating."
"This is my go-to market for wine and beer. It's owned by an Asian couple who are very friendly and happy to say hello every time I stop in. The beer selection is really good for a convenience store. A few varieties I've picked up there include Ace Cider, Weihenstephephaner Hefeweissebier, Arrogant Bastard, Buffalo Bill's Pumpkin Ale and Pyramid Audacious Apricot Ale. Not, it's not a beer and wine store, but it's a great stop when you want to grab a slightly offbeat libation. There's also a nice selection of chilled white and sparkling wines. The selection of red wines is affordable but more obscure than your average convenience store, making for great pick-ups to bring to parties or give as gifts. You'll also find some convenience far like sodas, chips, butter, ice cream, etc., but it's the friendly owners and beer selection that keep me coming back."
"The food was absolutely amazeballs! We had carryout, a friend dropped by and brought dinner. Steamed shrimp and caesar salads. Oh my goodness the caesar dressing was the best and the salad was fresh. The shrimp, were perfectly seasoned and very tasty, and HUGE. Thank You friend!"
"Gourmet food in the hood! By far the best sandwiches I've ever eaten! And if you're hungry after eating one of these sandwiches, there's something wrong!"

Libbie Market is the Near West End's premier boutique grocery store. It's maybe a quarter of the size of a major retailer, so I find it to be a less anxiety-inducing experience. (Grocery shopping is among my least favorite activities.)They have a decently sized parking lot, and I haven't had trouble finding a space. During the holidays, they had folks guiding vehicles into open spaces, so that was a nice touch.Inside, sale items are to the right upon walking in, followed by produce also to the right, deli and prepared items straight ahead, and frozen food back to the right. They have a good selection of Nightingale ice cream sandwiches and DeLuca Gelato pints.Snacks and refrigerated items are near the back, then as you loop toward the left there's a bunch of wine and beer, other random stuff, and bread/bakery items close to the check out.Lines are Covid safe with "stand here" stickers on the floor. Staff is pleasant and efficient. If you just need a handful of random items, this is a great option. I do grocery delivery for bulk orders, as I can generally find better prices through others.

I've been living near this store for years and bet I haven't been in it since back in my military days. It's located on the corner of 1st View St and Bay Ave, directly in front of Gate 4, Naval Air Station Norfolk. What prompted me to stop in here today was the Deli sandwiches that I viewed on their Yelp page - several years old. I could be wrong, but it appears that they don't make ANY food here anymore. The kitchen (I shlda gotten a picture) that you see in a "Menu" photo is gleaming because it isn't being used....and...I dont recall a Menu Board hanging above the counter as you see in the other pictures. The cheese steaks, hamburgers, hoagies and wings - all gone. It's a shame considering how much business that could produce from the base and the neighboring community, AND that the outside of the building still displays several Dietz & Watson Deli Meats banners on the front of the building - two of which read "Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner". I attempted to ask the store clerk about it, but got a confused "no english" response. After arriving home, I looked on Google reviews also and wasn't able to find anything more current than 10mos ago that indicates that they still offer freshly prepared food and sandwiches, other than a comment from Mimi a month ago (July 2023) that states, "Great place to get a hot meal or sandwich". All in all, without the kitchen being used, it's just another overpriced convenience store. P.S. If anyone knows if or when they open the kitchen, please let me know. I'd love to return and try it.

Mr. Food Mart is your typical neighborhood corner store but on steroids. I'm not sure how long they've been in business but I moved to the area in 2002 and they were already a neighborhood fixture. They offer basic grocery items like milk, bread, canned and dry goods, snacks, sodas, beer, etc... You can also find basic health and first aid items, very basic automotive items, tobacco products, etc... Of course they sell all the Virginia lottery tickets and a good variety of scratch-off lottery games as well. The aisles are narrow and crowded and the whole place could probably benefit from a deep cleaning and some updating. So far I've described your average neighborhood corner store but Mr. Food Mart is so much more. You can pay your utility or cell phone bill here, you can cash a check or buy a money order. You can pick up a bag of ice or exchange the propane tank for your gas grill then pump your tire full of air. They also have a deli counter where you can purchase deli meats and cheeses by weight and have them sliced to your preference. Then there's the food. They have a full line of delicious cold and hot subs as well some pretty decent pizza by the slice or get the whole pie. There are no tables or chairs inside or out so it's strictly takeout. To place your order just come on in or call ahead to have it ready when you get there. Hot dogs, hot sausage, bbq - you can get it here and it's pretty darn good. They have a nice commercial pizza oven and they know how to use it. Honestly, their subs are pretty amazing. Try the Club or Fat Boy or or Italian subs. Personally, my favorite is the Philly Cheesesteak. There's plenty of juicy and tender meat seasoned just right on a beautifully toasted roll. It really is outstanding. All their subs come ATW (all the way) with lettuce, tomato, mayo and oil & vinegar. They even put out a pretty tasty gyro. It's loaded with tender seasoned meat and really delicious. The parking lot is mostly adequate but can get pretty crowded, fortunately there are nearby businesses with additional parking so it's never really an issue. Be aware this is a neighborhood store so small groups of people do sometimes congregate outside in front of the store to hang out for a few minutes but it's never a problem. I'm glad to have Mr. Food Mart in the neighborhood, it's a solid choice to pick up some essentials or grab a quick meal.

The asian lady who works there cracks me up. Shes so awesome. If you recommend an item she actually executes it. Its on the larger side of convenience stores which is a plus.

I have been seeing this restaurant's stand up sign outside for months bragging about having the best burger in the 757. So today I stopped by and picked one up. You can also eat in at several small tables they have nicely set with white table cloths and colorful cushions. I ordered their Moody's Burger that comes with cheese, leaf lettuce, and homemade pickles. It also comes with a side of pasta salad or several choices of side salads. I asked for mine to be cooked medium-well, as it is ground beef. The wait was 8 minutes. The food was put into small plastic containers and into a nice brown bag with twine handles.I should have done an "unboxing video"! This burger looked just like you want those burgers you get other places to look. The patty was at least 3/4" thick. The cheese melted nicely over the entire burger. It was a little undercooked, more medium, but was within my comfort zone of eating ground meat. One of the best parts is that the roll is toasted, really toasted, not just warmed up on the grill, The Couchon salad was ample with bacon, various greens, and cucumber, and their homemade honey lime dressing was superb. I will say if you decide to dine inside at the tables, it pretty warm, which will be nice in the cooler months, but today seemed kind of stuffy. There is no barrier between the kitchen and the dining area which is the main reason it is warm. I say this burger was probably the best I have had anywhere in a very long time! They are closed on Mondays, and lunch is from 11:00 to 2:00. They have a wide variety of beverages--italian flavored sparkling waters, beer, wine and even a split of French Champagne available ! I would highly recommend the Mood Burger if you are in the mood for an old fashioned, freshly grilled hamburger.

Do I need gas? Nope. I just need me some crispy crunchy fried chicken gizzards doused in Texas Pete. I bet you didn't even know they had these tiny morsels of deep fried chicken innard deliciousness bursting with flavor.OMG, they are so good, get them or just fill your gas tank. Your choice.

This place was so good I work less than 10 minutes away so I went there on my lunch break and it certainly didn't disappoint.

"Just came by for gas. However, I looked inside the store and there are a lot of people in there smiling. I checked it out. They sell fresh food here. Interesting.Gotta run today but I will try it next time. The store is well stocked and clean. I was greeted with a warm hello from the register as I enteed. I will come back for a snack soon."
"I went to Thee Soulfood Kitchen inside the grocery store. The servers and cashier were nice. It was a busy time during lunch. So i ordered the 8pcs fried chicken with mac n cheese and rolls and a whiting fish dinner with greens and potato salad. I went to check out the grocery store while i waited for my fish to cook. Some items are already done, but fish and pork chops are made to order. So it was a 10 minute wait. The store is well stocked but they are still working on certain areas. They had apple juices that were different apple flavors like fuji, honey crisp, pink lady, and etc. So i grabbed a bunch of those. They also had a ethnic section with Caribbean food, curry, fufu, and etc. The freezer section had a nice selection also. There was a bunch of clearance items in the front also. The prices are reasonable. So i got my food and left. When i got home my car was ranking!! It was the fish. I've never smelled anything like it. So i tasted a piece and it was a heck no for me... It wasn't seasoned and it tasted sour. I don't think I'll get seafood again from there. The chicken mac n cheese and greens were ok. It just wasn't enough flavor. The mac was cheesy. The chicken was very crispy, but you have to eat it fresh because it gets soggy after sitting. The potato salad was pretty good. I will probably return for the turkey wings. They looked good. The store was clean so I'd return to shop there also. Besides the fish it was an ok trip.. 3.5 stars..."
"Great store! Awesome one stop shop family owned grocery store! Patricia and her husband have made this store nice again and brought the name back! Stop by for some food m, a cold soda or fishing gear!"
"My favorite local "bodega" like in NY! They cook food on the grill and have all food and home necessities"
"Wow... wish I could give zero stars. It was just THAT bad.First of all, when we entered the "restaurant" (and I use that term loosely), there were three tables. Period. Two were taken by customers who were dining, and the third had laptops & paperwork set out, where a man, either a store employee or the owner, not sure which, was taking care of business. So there we stood awkwardly while we waited for a table. Never once was an attempt made to clear out the makeshift desk so that we could actually sit. Of course, we had the choice to sit outside, but since it was 85 degrees, we passed.Once we were seated, the sales spiel began. Clearly the aim of this place is not to serve meals, it's to hawk products. And hawk they did, from the two containers of "sample" honey on the table, to the "snack" of tortilla chips we were brought (where we then learned all about them, the sodium content, the sea salt, etc.). I ordered the peach tea, which was brought to me in a partially filled paper cup, no ice. Just lukewarm tea.An interminably long period of time later, the waitress came waltzing in the front door with a tray. I guess they aren't connected to the kitchen? It was very odd. Anyway, she brought two of the three meals, explaining that she didn't have room on the tray for the third. So then we sat awkwardly for over five minutes awaiting the third entree, a salad. Finally the man who had been utilizing the table "desk" waltzed through the front door with my friend's salad, explaining, "you ordered a very labor intensive meal. I had to pit the olives by hand." Whaaat?! So there we sat with our food and began eating it, and again, both of the individuals working there came to the table and repeated the hawking of the items sold in the store. So you'd think now that we were finally free to enjoy our meal, right? You'd be wrong unfortunately. The same man then sat at the table "desk", picked up the phone, and called someone (presumably a creditor or supplier) to argue a bill. Loudly. This would have been rude from another patron, but from a store employee? It was absolutely ludicrous. At this point, we were rolling our eyes at one another, simply wanting to escape. We struggled to eat our food on our disposable dishes with a disposable fork, no knives provided of course, and finally just gave up, but not before my friend bit into an olive that had not been pitted. The food... it was okay, I suppose, but the portions are teeny tiny, and they skimp terribly on ingredients. For the price, this just wasn't okay. My turkey biscuits, salad & tea came to $18.Suffice to say, the disorganization & flightiness of these two were astounding. Let's put it this way: I was glad I had cash and didn't have to hand over my credit card.Never again. I feel for the unsuspecting tourists who may wander in. Yelpers, you've been warned."
"This is a fine little market, it is definitely tiny. But they've got lots of Hispanic staples and decent deals. I found their Facebook page, it's in Spanish but they do post their weekly deals there."
