Chelsi U. "I love the Ube boba and the mochi doughnuts here! It's a special treat when I'm on that side of town and am able to stop in and grab a boba and doughnut. My favorite flavor is the black sesame. Something about it is just sooo good! The churro was a bit sweet for my taste, but still good. I love the texture inside. So soft and pillowy. The can top for the tea is easy to drink from if you decide not to use the straw. I come here every now and again... and I don't know if it's a fluke, but both times I've been rang up for one extra doughnut. The first time I asked for two, and she rang me up for 3. I didn't notice until I paid and asked for the extra doughnut instead of my money back. She'd already given me my two, but I chalked it up as a mistake, which happens. The last time, it had been awhile since I stopped by. I only ordered one and she rang me up for two. I saw it this time and it took a little bit before she understood. She only got me one donut this time...so it made me give a little side eye. Just make sure you're only rang up for what you want."

For drinks we grabbed the employee recommended Pina Colada and a Matcha. I have never had the Korean Dogs before and enjoyed them. To me it was like having some crazy carnival food and was perfect for a "once in a while" taste. We also had a couple of the donuts and they were very good. Highly recommend."

No OBX trip is complete without stopping here. My friends and I had 3 days here and I think we came here 3x. AND I'M LACTOSE INTOLERANT. So I only took a few bites each visit, of their ice cream, but they were amazing bites. They have a little bench inside and some seating outside to enjoy the treat. It's a cozy place. And service is fast and you get to try the flavors before buying. I really enjoyed stopping in here and I really recommend anyone on the fence to come!!"

Victoryia G. "This is my first time coming to this doughnut shop. I would like to say the atmosphere is very cute, I like the seating area and the merchandise available. The costumer service was great and speedy. These doughnuts were on the pricey side, I hate to say it but for the price more effort should be put in for cleanliness and neatness and perhaps larger doughnuts.Taste wise the doughnuts themselves were fresh and soft, there's multiple flavors to choose from and you can get creative and build your own! As I did.***hate to say it***That pumpkin spice doughnut was NOT IT. I was expecting sweet pumpkin cream cheese frosting or even a pumpkin doughnut (since it was extra) it tasted like pumpkin from a can with cream cheese and I ordered 2 I was so disappointed. Also the cleanliness of the box could have been better. There was icing all over and around the box, very messy. And it wasn't busy..."

Yoonie L. "We were in the area exploring, and after lunch, decided to get a cold treat. Searched on Yelp and Holy Cow Creamery (HCC) came up.First, look for the Duck Deli. HCC is attached to it, on the side, but you won't be able to see it from the street very well, from your car. Look for the "ice cream" and "milkshakes" flags. You'll have walk through Duck Deli to get to it. Once outside, you'll enter a fun, bright yellow back patio with the HCC order window. They seemed to have a good variety of flavors. They also allow you to sample! I ordered the blueberry cheesecake and was torn between Death by Chocolate and tiramisu, but ultimately I went with Death by Chocolate. I will definitely go for the tiramisu next time. They were pretty generous scoops and I had my fill with a medium size! Great little patio to enjoy your treats.Things to note:- outdoor seating only- small is only one scoop (only one flavor) , medium is two scoops (so 2 flavors), etc. - basically only one flavor in one scoop- I'm assuming their flavors rotate because one of the staff members were writing the menu on the chalkboard by hand. Enjoy, Friends!"

"Before I begin this review let me start off by saying that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone, so with that being said let's go!!.This particular location was newly built and opened up about a month ago but I'm just now getting around to checking out the new location!. It's very spacious, well lit, extra seating and overall extra space but most of all everything looked clean and welcoming! I will be returning when I'm close by and I have time to spare in the morning. I left out one star because the donut and pastries selection was very limited, as opposed to the other location! But nevertheless I was quite pleased!."

Gerald S. "I arrived minutes before the 1:00 closing, and rushed through the purchase of a half dozen donuts, forgetting to take photos of the moment. Regardless, Emily's knows donuts and I was fortunate to be able to run in and free a few hostages. The shop is small, with a counter display and a few tables for those who prefer to linger. Self serve java is available and hot. Their inventory was somewhat limited due to the hour, but they still had a pastel collection of cake and yeast rounders with colorful frosting and tasty fillings. I went with 2 Glazed, 2 Blueberry Glazed, 1 Strawberry Frosted and a Peanut Butter & Jelly filled pillow. My sister and I shared them and we agreed these were outstanding exemplars of the genus Donuticus Americani. The colors were rich and suggested the flavor rush to come. The yeasties were soft and their icing gave way nicely with each bite. The berry choices were uber sweet and could be smelled as well as tasted. The jelly gushed out when bitten, and required a little dexterity to avoid dropping its load on the ground. A real treat! The coffee could have been fresher, but the shop was in the process of closing and we were advised of that before deciding to pour a cup. Kudos to Emily and family for building a great little business, and keeping it going through thick and thin."

Dennis C. "The Donut Dugout is a new and exciting donut shop that opened with a huge splash last week, serving old school cake, yeast, and specialty donuts, as well as some other classic pastry items. It took over the building formerly occupied by Naci's Corner Cafe, a Turkish restaurant that closed earlier this year.It is stationed at the intersection of Granby Street and 19th Street directly behind Doumar's on Monticello Avenue, a world-famous ice cream shop known for inventing the first ice cream cone.It is a locally owned family-owned operation, led by Charles Ieng, who is originally from Maine, and his wife. They had originally wanted a location at Virginia Beach's Oceanfront, but none of the available storefronts fit their vision. When this Norfolk location became available, they visited and liked it enough to sign on and take it over. The name of The Donut Dugout was inspired by their children, who all play baseball. The overhead menu behind their counter reflects a baseball theme, with headings such as The Designated Hitter Lineup. All of their donuts and pastry items are cooked fresh daily. Although it is a carry-out operation with no indoor tables for seating, two picnic tables are available for seating directly out in front.Parking is available along 19th Street by a branch of Old Point National Bank and on Granby Street itself. After three visits, everything I have tried so far has exploded in my mouth with an awesome depth of flavor and texture. They include the following:CHOCOLATE DONUT WITH SPRINKLES: This was a cake style donut that was dense and compact with a crisp exterior of shell. Its flavors sent my taste buds soaring to a state of bliss. My Rating: 5 Stars.STRAWBERRY DONUT WITH SPRINKLES: This was another cake style donut that was a feast for the eyes. Once again, it socked me with a flavor profile that was off the charts delicious. My Rating: 5 Stars.CINNAMON ROLL: This is a classic pastry that I always enjoy just about anywhere. This one was exceptional with a soft and pillowy texture and deeply delicious cinnamon flavor that came through with flying colors. My Rating: 5 Stars.APPLE FRITTER: This was an old-fashioned yeast style donut that was listed under their Designated Hitter Lineup. It was deep fried to a crunchy texture and filled with apple slices and apple pie spices that were insanely delicious. I took one bite and couldn't stop eating it, My Rating: 5 Stars.STRAWBERRY FRENCH CRULLER: This was a beautifully presented cake style donut with a soft and pillowy texture with a flavor that was off the charts delicious. Once again, I took one bite and couldn't stop. My Rating: 5 Stars.BEAR CLAW: This was another entry from their Designated Hitter Lineup. The Bear Claw is a sweet yeast raised pastry, a type of Danish, that first originated in the U.S during the mid 1910s.The appearance of bear- like claws occur as the yeast rises with each section forming its own claw. This one was filled with a combination of apple slices and cinnamon that gave me an orgasmic taste experience. This is my favorite item tried here yet. My Rating: 5-Plus Stars. For my next visit, I am going to try a Long John, which is another entry from their Designated Hitter Lineup. It is a bar shaped yeast risen donut that comes Sugar Glazed or with Chocolate or Maple Icing. They can be filled with custard or creme as well.Their owners been exceptionally friendly and accommodating during each of my visits. I will be looking forward to my future visits, as I have only just begun to scratch the surface of everything they have to offer. The Donut Dugout is well deserving of our local support, and this review comes with a rousing slam dunk 5-star rating.NOTE: I also posted 10 photos, but they failed to attach themselves to my review. However, they did attach themselves to the main Photos section of this business as shown above."

Sue D. "I ordered two donuts and both were extremely stale. There was a set of sweet Asian twins there and they were nice but weren't informed at all. I was pleasantly asking them questions to come to an understanding why their donuts are consistently stale at every location I go to? I wasn't mean or harsh and all of a sudden a middle aged man started being rude to me and told me something profane and then proceeded to call me a Karen? I politely told him I was speaking to the employees and to mind his own business. The girls then told me it was their father. Weird.... He walked out angrily. The kids were becoming flustered so I walked out and researched. Dunkin Donuts bakes the donuts and then sends them to the stores frozen. This is from prior employees saying this.I refuse to ever eat their donuts again. When I was younger in the seventies and eighties Dunkin Donuts were amazing but not anymore. That father was a tool."

Mary B. "Driving from a different direction to my next school that morning I finally saw the truck and NO LINE! So I made a pit stop and so glad I did. I bought 6 doughnuts 2 of every flavor. Flavor of the week is coffee glazed, then cinnamon sugar. And regular glazed. Now that I have seen the truck on those mornings, when I see they sell the blueberry glazed I'm stopping! I follow them on IG and many of my friends have eaten their doughnuts but I had not had the chance to have it myself. If you like cake doughnuts, omg these are the ones for you! Family owned and run, different follow their IG for their story. The coffee glaze was sweet with a bit of a bbitter aftertaste from the coffee so although good not my favorite. But then I'm not a huge coffee drinker anyway. Cinnamon sugar was good too. Good balance of the Cinnamon to the sugar but, purely personal preference, it's messy so I don't like eating them. Trust because if that was the only flavor I would get over the messy and eat it. But since I have choices, that's not my top. But the glazed!? Yall its like (to me) cream cheese frosting was melted and the doughnut took a bath. YUM! It was sweet and thick and the doughnut it slim in terms of dough but made ito a beautiful big ring of deliciousness. I'm glad I only got 2 of each and I'll be eating them over 2-3 days because if it were all glazed? Food coma for sure. Prices are not bad considering the size. I bought six with cash so I only paid 13.75. If you pay with credit card they add tax to it. Well worth it. I'm excited to try different flavors. And tbh, I would definitely wait in a line for them!"

On the first visit, I also purchased an Apple Fritter, which was okay; nothing to shout about. Yesterday, on my second visit, I also purchased a single Salted Caramel Doughnut. Waaay too sweet for me.Also, yesterday, the owner came out from the kitchen and offered a free BBQ sandwich to me and another customer. It seems that they are attempting to expand their wares from sweet treats to more wholesome food. I took it. The BBQ sandwich was the first thing I ate when I got home. It was served on a White House Roll without cole slaw. It was tasty, slightly hot, and very dry, even after adding BBQ sauce. Cole slaw would have allayed the dryness, but I had none, so I splashed a bit of white vinegar on the sandwich and that helped a lot.I'll be back in hopes of getting another BBQ sandwich, even if I have to pay for it."
