For my birthday, my husband went all the way to Twisted Sister Cupcakes and Sugar Shack Cafe to get my birthday treats during his lunch break to bring home later that evening. He also cooked my birthday feast (I know, I'm a lucky gal!)When we were stationed here the first time, Twisted Sisters would come around with their cake mobile at my old employment during our lunch hour. My colleagues and I would run out like kids and ice cream trucks LOL. It's nice to see that they are still around and thriving! My husband came home with quite a heavy box of a dozen cupcakes, filled to the brim. The cupcake box fits juuuuuuust right (although the fondant horn on the Unicorn did push it over the edge and the unicorn ones did get a tad smooshed).The cupcakes were:Vanilla Bean or is it Birthday Cake?Death by Chocolate Red VelvetUnicorn Oreo ExplosionPeanut Butter BrownieThese cupcakes are a 1:1 ration of cake and icing. Although I am more of a cake girl, rather than icing girl, I must admit, the icing wasn't that bad! IMO, this is definitely one of those cupcakes where you should make the cupcake sammie (cut off the bottom half of the cake and place it on top of the icing). The cake was pretty dense, but airy, also moist and the icing was very fluffy.My fave was the one on the top left corner (see pic). It almost looked like there were two tiny donuts on top, but really it's a ball of icing, coated in ganache on a vanilla cake. The Oreo Explosion comes a close second and the Red Velvet was great too. I LOVE that it's not a cream cheese frosting! Nothing against cream cheese frosting, just don't think it has to automatically be paired with red velvet, ya know?Overall, great alternative to a whole cake. It was a nice birthday treat! "One of my fiancés friends told us how great the deserts here are. So for my fiancé birthday I got a few cupcakes to try and a mini strawberry cheesecake. I went early in the afternoon so all the choices were full, it was hard to choose because they all looked great. I chose a confetti, strawberry shortcake, pineapple with coconut and strawberry supreme. The cupcakes were delicious super moist. Definitely will be going back to try other cupcakes!!"
"The best cupcakes in Hampton Roads! I've stopped by their truck at CHKD a couple of times now. Their cupcakes are perfect. Always the right amount of sweetness and bold flavor. My favorite is the red velvet. The staff member running the truck is always very friendly. I'm looking forward to trying all of their staple cupcakes and their featured flavors of the month!"
