They use house made syrups and their vanilla oat milk latte was so good I came back and got it a second time. Drip coffee comes with a free refill. They have a limited food menu with unique items that were all very good. We tried the banh mi and liege waffle and both were hot, fresh, and delicious! Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the place itself is cute and quaint. Employees are friendly and service was great. Would definitely recommend if you're in Norfolk!"

Damien J. "A year ago, Sophia and I drove to the 'Burg for breakfast at a long standing spot. The food was really good and we went back sometime in the Spring as well. So for the Thanksgiving weekend, we decided to make the drive here once again to see how things were.Upon walking inside, you can see the specials written on their board. Just like a year ago, country fried steak was the special. And that's we both ordered again. I had mine with home fries, scrambled eggs and buttered toast and Sophia had hers with home fries, fried hard eggs and buttered toast along with coffee and water. And like before, both of us enjoyed our meal. Our meals came out in a timely manner cooked very well. Like before, I added salt and pepper to the eggs for a bit more seasoning (each restaurant does their food differently), but the both of us were filled up nicely for the morning drive.Well, that was our experience. Great service from the staff, a good crowd on hand for a post-Thanksgiving meal and a great vibe all around. I don't think we could've asked for anything more. Till next time :)"

It comes with spring mix lettuce, dried cranberries, onions, feta, avocado, almonds, a side of chicken salad, and the most delicious onion vinaigrette. I think it's homemade. The chicken salad has dill, which was a nice complement to the salad. The lady who took my order was Momo's mom. She was very pleasant. They also sell pastries and jewelry. The layout has several tables, and plenty of places to sit."

Kaitlin E. "If you work in this area, this is a prime choice for lunch. The ladies who work here are excellent cooks. They also seemed kind and gracious. I've only been here once since I'm rarely ever in this office park for long. For that reason, I can't provide much info on their menu or daily specials. The day I was there they were offering a Korean BBQ. She described the dish to me in detail and offered me a sample which I declined because I knew I was going to love it, and I did. The beef was flavorful and juicy. It's served with white rice and a salad with vinegar based dressing. The meal was hot, fresh, and delicious. It was under $10 including the drink. At this place, you order at the counter then get your cup and grab a drink while you wait. The dining area is tiny, approximately 8 tables that seat 2 people. There is no restroom, however, just a short walk down the hallway toward the building's lobby, there are large, clean restrooms. I was there after the lunch rush around 2:00 so I don't know if space is an issue during lunch peak. Since it's in a office park, most customers probably work in the building or an adjacent building and can just go back to their office to eat. If I'm in the area for lunch again I'm definitely going back to see what other specials they offer."

Left off one star for the review because it was missing that coffee shop element of community. Octavia M. "Such a cute and quaint cafe! My family and I were seeing some of the yummy posts of foods here on FB, and with some of my family and friends having tried this place many times, it was my time while visiting. Had I not had a rundown from them beforehand, I totally thought this was just a catering/large tray type of place from the posts I saw. So, while they do have a grab and go area and do preorders for those larger items, I was excited to learn it was more of an order at the counter from a small menu restaurant. Everything on the menu sounded amazing, and not to mention you order at the counter where the desserts are also staring you in the face (temptation!). We settled on trying the southwest eggrolls for our app that we'd seen on FB, and it was a good portion to share with the table. I tried the buffalo shrimp wrap, and while it definitely had some heat, it was delicious and a great choice. You get to choose your side, and as a lover of French Fries, I was disappointed they didn't have any on the menu. BUT, the sweet potato fries did not disappoint at all. They were delish, and totally not what I was expecting either since they were more of a sweet potato wedge, but they also came with a sweet almost icing like dip that was tasty, but that you could totally opt out, as they were great on their own. My table also has the panini (can't remember, maybe turkey and pastrami) and the brisket wrap. Both highly recommended. The portions were great for the price on all of the items, and I was so full, I couldn't even go back for those tempting desserts I was eyeing. The place was nicely decorated, super clean, and had great service at the counter and while seated inside at the tables. They had many wine and alcohol options, which surprised me, but good option when wanting a more social hang. Every person we encountered was very friendly and ensured we had everything we needed at all times, and even though we sat for a while chatting after our meal, they were great at clearing our tables to make room to just relax and hang out. I'm glad to see my hometown have a treat of a business like this, and I hope to return soon and try some more great items off the menu and dessert counter!"

Alison M. "What a wonderful shop! I've been inside before to buy a quick cookie or take a small snack, but this time we had a lovely lunch here about half an hour before closing. We spoke to the friendly owner I believe behind the counter and she was happy to make recommendations or answer our questions about the sandwiches and lunch entrees they offer. Everything looked good and we were absolutely starving - they have a large range of delicious items to include Shrimp and Grits, soups, sandwiches, and other items. I chose the everything turkey sandwich which was HUGE and loaded with cheese and meat. Very good and very filling. The everything croissant was fresh and tasty. My husband chose the pastrami sandwich which was equally huge and generous portions of meat. Sides were homemade pasta salad and potato salad, both delicious. There is a small shop inside where you can browse wares and some household items and food items are for sale. There are a number of small patio tables and a few larger tables for 3-5 with umbrellas all outside. We got a chocolate chunk cookie and a soda and I had an iced chai tea. SO good. The owner said her husband was from India so the chai was legit and she was right. I have actually had chai in India and this tasted just like it! The cookie was fresh and moist and loaded with chunks of chocolate. Just like my husband loves them. Note: The kitchen closes 10 minutes before 3 - they close at 3. To halt any last-minute orders while they're cleaning up for the day. We will absolutely be back - this is a gem. Great, friendly and welcoming service, wonderful food, and a large lunch/brunch menu."

Gerald S. "I arrived minutes before the 1:00 closing, and rushed through the purchase of a half dozen donuts, forgetting to take photos of the moment. Regardless, Emily's knows donuts and I was fortunate to be able to run in and free a few hostages. The shop is small, with a counter display and a few tables for those who prefer to linger. Self serve java is available and hot. Their inventory was somewhat limited due to the hour, but they still had a pastel collection of cake and yeast rounders with colorful frosting and tasty fillings. I went with 2 Glazed, 2 Blueberry Glazed, 1 Strawberry Frosted and a Peanut Butter & Jelly filled pillow. My sister and I shared them and we agreed these were outstanding exemplars of the genus Donuticus Americani. The colors were rich and suggested the flavor rush to come. The yeasties were soft and their icing gave way nicely with each bite. The berry choices were uber sweet and could be smelled as well as tasted. The jelly gushed out when bitten, and required a little dexterity to avoid dropping its load on the ground. A real treat! The coffee could have been fresher, but the shop was in the process of closing and we were advised of that before deciding to pour a cup. Kudos to Emily and family for building a great little business, and keeping it going through thick and thin."

It's been a year since our last stop so why not see what they've been up to?We entered after 8am but it was so packed that there was a near 40-minute wait. To be honest, it didn't bother me since we had nothing else planned until later on. They always have a packed house and seating is small. Patience is definitely a virtue. After snagging a table, we were ready to order. I selected the Snyder omelet (bacon, ham, cheese, mushrooms) with a side of sweet potato fries and Sourdough bread. I also had an iced Butterscotch latte for beverages. Everything was delicious. The omelet was full of protein and veggies which is a huge plus for me. The sweet potato fries....a whole lot. And I gotta say the cinnamon-based dipping sauce was a game changer. You definitely don't need a side of ketchup for this one. The Sourdough bread was slightly burnt, but it didn't bother me at all. You can't go wrong with jelly and butter either.A very nice way to start off our day. A full breakfast with staff making sure you're taken care of. Can't ask for anytjing more. Till next time :)"

Like I said in previous reviews, I take too long on Yelp looking for eateries that the hubs resorts to google maps to pick for us lol. We parked and walked up to the crowd of customers waiting to be seated. Luckily for us there was a small table perfect for our party of two. Our waitress was sweet, fast, and accommodating. I ordered the traditional which came with any style eggs, meat, choice of side, and two side pancakes. It is a mouthful, but I knew the leftovers would go to a good place in my stomach later ;) My eggs were cooked sunny side up with fresh bacon. The home fries were in my opinion the winner. It had the crispy exterior with the right amount of potato meat inside. The pancakes were large. I'm no pancake eater, but I did treat myself to half. It was soft, sweet, and salty after using the butter and syrup lolMy better half ordered the breakfast burrito which came with scrambled eggs, sausage, peppers, onions, tomatoes, cheese wrapped in a tortilla with choice of side. He too ordered the home fries and agreed it was the best. Oh and the orange juice is freshly squeezed so Highly recommend that. I had some of the breakfast burrito and it was oh soo good. Allie D. "My family and I recently moved to the area from Georgia to be closer to the rest of my family, and I had been looking forward to the first mother/daughter lunch out. My mom, who lives in Gloucester recommended this location so today we decided to visit for lunch. When we arrived the power was out at the restaurant (and apparently in other parts of the city) but to my surprise instead of being turned away we were welcomed in and told they were still serving lunch, the only thing they couldn't do was heat the soup and make the specialty drinks in hot form. We were seated right away and given plenty of time to peruse the menu and chat. You would never have even known they were having a hiccup with the power grid as the staff made sure everything flowed smoothly. We started with a cold glass of mixed berry lemonade, and then ordered the daily special, a Caprese Melt on herbed focaccia. The food came pretty quickly, and the portion was more than generous, and it was love at first bite! The focaccia was absolutely perfect, and the flavors married beautifully with the fresh tomato, basil and mozzarella cheese. My mother and I ordered the same sandwich but for her side she chose their fresh cut house chips and I chose the cucumber salad. And then there was dessert....sweet tooth cafe has a wide assortment of baked goods, made from scratch...and it was so hard to choose what to try first. We ended up deciding on the tiramisu and we split it. Other options were key lime pie, carrot cake, cheesecakes, cinnamon rolls that were the size of a sandwich plate, and eclairs. The tiramisu was amazing!!! With the perfect balance of flavors. By the end of the meal, just before we finished the lights came back on and everything went back to normal for the team working there, but again you never would have even known that they had any challenges. They meal was excellent, the customer service was great and I truly am looking forward to returning with the rest of my family to explore more of the menu."

Yoonie L. "Commune has been on my radar for awhile. I was attending an event nearby and my friends wanted to meet up for brunch before going and I suggested Commune since it was so close.- Parking - If you come early enough, you can snag a spot in their private lot shared with neighboring businesses or you can also find parking on the street.- TLC - The service at Commune seems to be a more shared experience, where we had a main server, but had other servers brought our food and take other requests. They were all really kind and sweet.- Noms & Sips - Yaupon matcha latte - I am familiar with yaupon after having lived in Savannah, where this medicinal plant used by Native Americans comes from. The latte was tasty, but a bit more grainy and earthy than what habitual matcha drinkers are used to, so FYI.Gold milk latte - My friends each ordered a golden milk latte, with different milks, but both slurped it up and expressed how they were tempted to order another because it was so delicious!Hash tots - this is a shareable dish! We ordered this dish thinking it was an app size, but the tots were huge, almost like a giant donut hole. The texture is interesting because it is both a soft and mashed-like texture, as well as shreds of sweet potatoes. It is served with this delicious sweet, mayo-like sauce. Not sure if I would order it again, only because it was so filling, and we barely had room for the three other dishes we ordered, but it was tasty!Farm grit bowl - I've never been a fan of collard greens, but all that changed at Commune! I'm also not usually a fan of grits either, but I would definitely order this again! It was comfort in a bowl with a little bit of fancy sprinkled in. The grits were nice and creamy, accompanied with a chicken sausage patty, topped with a poached egg, microgreens, a slice of watermelon radish and a generous helping of collard greens. Normally, the fumes of the vinegar that is used to cook down collard greens, go up my nose, which in turn, throws me off, so I've never really been a fan of the preparation at the majority of places. However, at Commune, I could have eaten an entire bowl's worth. I did taste the vinegar, but it wasn't as overpowering and just really paired well with the grits! So good. Cornmeal waffles - this is their interpretation of the chicken & waffle dish. The waffles were a lot more dense, and hearty since it was made with cornmeal, but I liked the grittiness and was definitely more filling. The chicken was battered and seasoned nicely and the fact that they used thigh meat was a bonus! The chicken was juicy! Biscuits & gravy - This was my least favorite dish, but it was still good. I felt like the biscuits were just a little flat and not as tall and puffy. It still tasted good, an egg makes everything better, and the salad added a nice healthy balance to a heavy plate.Overall, the vibe is stellar. Lots of wood and plants as decor, with art from a local Virginia artist D. Kane on the walls and his signature black and white design on their menus. This is a farm-to-table concept, cooked with produce grown in their garden out back. I've heard that the rest of the ingredients are sourced from as local as possible. This all means, it is a bit more pricey, but I would definitely return knowing that they are using quality ingredients and putting so much care.Enjoy, Friends and never stop exploring!"
