Kathryn M. "I scheduled for Heather to come and do a painting party with my school age children for our summer camp. She couldn't have been more accommodating with our schedule. I asked for her to come on a Thursday and Friday morning, with about 15-20 kids per day. She booked us immediately with no fees at all. She charged us $20 per child for an 11X14 canvas. I am very satisfied and impressed with everything, from calling and booking, to choosing the design, to the very end result. The children had a wonderful time and we didn't have to do anything, she came early to set up and cleaned up. The only negative thing I would say about this would be the fact that she did have to change the original days from Thursday and Friday, to Wednesday and Thursday. This at first was an inconvenience to us but we managed to deal with it. Also, it was a challenge for us to get an exact head count the night before. Working with parents who like to wait until the last minute for sign up makes it hard for us to pin an exact number of children.Anyway, it didn't matter. I loved it. The children loved it. The price was very reasonable and Heather was very nice and professional. We will be booking her from now on every summer!"

Pricing was on point. The staff were so helpful and hard working. They have fun events from time to time and they have themed events as well. Follow their social media outlets to keep up to date."

Meredith S. "What a well done museum in an unexpected place!! We were looking for a day trip from our home in Norfolk and saw this one on TripAdvisor. Since it is only about 20 miles from the bridge tunnel up the shore (one of my favorite places on earth!), we decided to check it out. SO glad we did! And since admission is free, it made the bridge tunnel toll worth it!When you walk in you are greeted by the most friendly docent who gives you a brief background of the museum and what it's about. She told us they have several films and asked if we wanted to watch any of them. We did - "Our Island Home" gives you a terrific view of what life on Hog Island was like before it was abandoned from people who were actually born there. After whatever movie(s) you want to watch, you are "free range" to explore the museum. It is SO well done. I could have roamed around for longer than the 2 hours we were there (but I'm a museum reader - I have to check out everything!). Definitely allow yourself a couple of hours to explore. The exhibits are fantastic and laid out well. All artifacts were donated or on loan from actual island families - they don't purchase their artifacts. I like that. Shows the love for the community that these people have. Definitely check out the attic! There are hands on things for the kids - it's hot up there in the summer though! I was fascinated by the twisted chimney (not going to tell you why it was built that way - you'll have to go find out for yourself!). This is a GREAT little stop if you are looking for something cool to do on your way up or down Rt. 13 on your way to your vacation or a great day trip from the VA Beach area. With all their many activities and programs, we will definitely be back!"

The staff was so incredibly friendly, professional and safety was their first and foremost concern. They were like the comforting elementary school teacher who shows you and guides you just enough in the class. I will definitely recommend anyone coming for a class, a date or just to watch!"

Ashlee A. "Such an amazing experience! Gifted my friend the "Throw yourself into pottery" class for Christmas. We thought the snow might've postponed but everything worked out. There were 9 of us in this session with room for 10. Everyone had their own wheel, apron, and 3 balls of clay. Angela was very inspirational. She shared her background story for us and I love that the number one rule is to not stress. When making pottery, it is your one and only focus or else your pottery will show and boy was that the truth. It was a great experience to just focus on being in the present. She took us through all the steps and I was a bit nervous I would forget them but she was hands on as needed and even had instructions on the board of each step. One practice round and two pieces to take home, I can't wait to see and use our finished products!"

They have an exciting and diverse schedule of visual art exhibitions focused primarily on the creations of artists living and working in Hampton Roads and the state of Virginia. It is great that they promote contemporary art makers and provide an opportunity for the untalented people like me an opportunity to interact with the artists. The emphasis is on group exhibitions which offer a broad range of artists, media, styles, content and perspectives on our world. Just go and support our community!!!!"

Sharon T. "I was so impressed to meet Raisa. She is the heart of this local non-profit art gallery. Her parents owned this home and helped her aspiration become a reality. This non-profit gallery was opened to help the people of Bangladesh receive help and funding through the expression of art.The community has helped her keep this gallery a float by doing a total remodel of the place. They've broke down walls and made the place more open and suitable for the gallery. She has begun to hold art classes every Wednesday. The classes are open for many local artist to come bring their creativity and for those wanting to get a better understanding and introductory to art. The place still needs a little more work to be done to get to bring art awareness. Perhaps 3/5 stars as far as presentation. But I'm in full support of raising art for a cause. It will be good to get this organization with full attention. I feel fine arts now a days has been lost with having technology. This is great for our local artist who are struggling and can get some recognition. It's nice to have local artist in the area come together and have their work on display. The gallery is beautiful and can't wait to try one of the classes."

Alison M. "How have I overlooked this little gem for so long! Right beside Prosperity Kitchen and Pantry and across from Esoteric is a small-looking but actually pretty large inside building with tons of local art and artists. I like that the front part has local artists on display and the exhibits change from time to time with regards to theme. In the back, there are more featured artists and workstations where they come from time to time and work. I met a few of them who were friendly and welcoming and happy to answer questions and discuss their art and inspirations. The volunteers working inside were super friendly and the art on display is almost all for sale. I saw several things I wanted to purchase and ended up leaving with a small pottery piece to start my collection. Prices are reasonable as well and I love supporting local art."

Michaela D. "I am beyond thankful to have found Creative Music & Entertainment. I started teaching myself a little piano at home with an app, but after a month or so I hit a roadblock and knew I wanted to commit to lessons with an instructor. I was looking for an affordable music school that would allow me to enjoy the process, but also be educational enough to help me reach my goals as a new musician- I found just that.Chris helped me set up my first lesson in no time at all once I reached out. It was easy to find, no hassle and no pressure. They have plenty of package deals (for all kinds of music & arts lessons) with different lesson lengths. I opted for 45 minute weekly lessons which have proved to be a perfect length of time for me. The packages are for two months at a time; I love that you aren't forced to commit to long periods of time so the flexibility is there, however I plan to continue renewing! Chris ensured I would receive the ideal time slot to fit within my weeks, and I very much appreciated that. I would have made it work with another day/time if needed, but he arranged things so I wouldn't have to. Chris is willing to accommodate your schedule as needed and clearly dedicated to ensuring you get the musical education and experience you're looking for. He is patient and encouraging along the way. It's a blessing to be able to afford professional lessons as a 20-something trying to learn her first instrument a little late in the game. Creative Music & Entertainment has made me feel confident in my abilities and I'm excited to see how much I continue to progress!"

Tami C. "#31/2020Seems like DIY Arts & Crafts shops are all the rage these days and I. Am. Loving. It! I came across this cute business on Instagram and they showcased wine coolers/chillers as a project so I couldn't resist asking some of my girlfriends if they'd like to participate. So glad a couple of them obliged. It was such a fun and unique project that differed from the usual hanging wooden signs with catchy phrases. I mean, we still chose a catchy phrase for our chiller though, lol! "Everyday Is Winesday" Signing up was fairly easy and user friendly on their website. I found that it wasn't as complicated as another DIY's website when registering. They offer many projects but to me, it wasn't so overwhelming that I had to take a good chunk of time to peruse each and every project. One particular item I would love to do is coir doorstep mat. You pay with credit card when registering but pay attention to the fine print should you need to cancel. There's some rules there! After successfully registering, you will receive a welcome email from Cathy. She (and her husband) is absolutely adorable and super friendly. I loved that she plucked off all the lettering for us on the vinyl decal so that all we had to do was apply it on our medium. Another place made us pluck off each and every letter, number, and design in general. It is very time consuming yet cathartic but when you're on a time crunch, ehhh. Cathy was kind enough to do it ahead of time! Her husband built and sanded the wooden cooler that will house the plastic tub to hold our wine bottles and ice once we're finished. All we had to do was choose a stain and paint color for the design! They had about 14 stains and about 36 paint colors so choose wisely! Just remember to keep it fun and think outside the box sometimes! Really enjoyed my time there with my girlfriends. We arrived early so we could settle in and get to know the owner. They've only been opened a month and the place is really cute. Can't wait to see more things they will display! They had a great playlist going and Cathy walked around to help us if we got stumped on color choices or if we had any issues. She was there to rescue or lend a hand. You can also bring your own beverage: beer, wine, champagne, whatever. But my friends and I? We brought iced Vietnamese coffee -- LOL! Hey, we had dinner beforehand and tryptophan was kicking in so we needed to wake up! Hammer & Stain is located in the Timberlake Shopping Center a couple doors down from Blink Fitness and because of that there's plenty of parking!!! It's a lot closer to me than the other two DIY places I've been to and I foresee myself coming here more so because of it. Very convenient with a few restaurants in the area. Highly recommend if you're wanting something fun to do on a rainy day, which is what we did! You can create one-of-a-kind, unique, handmade gifts for loved ones or yourself. Just keep in mind it does cost a bit depending on the project but it is what it is. Find them on Instagram/Facebook or click here http://www.hammerandstainvb.com/"

Sheila C. "I was in town visiting a friend who insisted we stop in to this art gallery. Neat concept with different artists having individual booths in one location. I was interested in a pearl necklace at the center of the store, in the cash register and check out area, but an older gentleman was sitting there, apparently too busy looking at his phone to even acknowledge me so we departed.I really wanted to purchase the pearls so we returned the next day. Fortunately there were two very friendly women working and they were willing to engage with me so I was able to return home with a strand of pearls as a token from my trip.1.) I am glad I was able to return. Some guests aren't able to do that.2.) I am glad the "old guy" wasn't working. I wonder how many sales they have lost because he is "too busy". Prices were varied depending on the artists valuation and project. I would like to return next time I am in the area and hopefully have a better experience."

I'm so glad that we have a studio like this close to our place. We went here for my daughter's birthday party and they had a complete blast. Not necessarily my thing, but hey, I'm just the guy fronting the bill for a happy child. The pricing was very fair in my opinion and they did a great job of ensuring all the kids had fun and were coordinated (tough) in their work. The facility was quaint and just enough to be perfect for hosting the event and allowing customers to come in. I love that it is veteran and black owned. Brandon and his staff were great. They were helpful and also let us just do our thing which was great. Once we were in the splatter room we went to town giggling away and splattering paint. The room is small. Perfect for 5 people. But, I was very content with just myself and my friend. We were able to choose 3 colors for our 16x20 canvas. I think the cost would have been $25 per person. Very reasonable! We loved it that we are considering hosting an event with WD for a moral boosting event with the staff I work with. Thank you Yelp and WD!"
