The winery is nice! They have tents outside in the back that we sat at. But the air conditioning went out when we went and it was cooler outside than inside. The wines were good. My friend and I got the flight and each got 4 different ones. The service was super nice and fast.

Loved the staff at this winery. Very approachable and welcoming. The wine is very agreeable! With something for everyone. Great red flight option and a make your own. Thanks for supporting our military! They gave our friend a discount and have a display by the bathroom.

I decided to take a trip to Goochland today to try out this winery. Although it was a hot day and their a/c was not working, I really enjoyed my time at this winery. I did a flight of tastings and enjoyed learning about the wines, the history of the winery, and even about local wineries in the area. I tried a sampling of their wines and the steel barrel aged chardonnay (Creekside Chardonnay) and the red sangria were my favorites. Unfortunately, it was too hot to keep the sangria chilled in my car, so I'll have to come back and buy a bottle when it cools off a bit (September?). This is a great place to stop in and try some tasty wines.

Lovely winery. Byrd Cellars has a nice view of the surrounding countryside and was a tranquil visit on a Sunday afternoon. We were pleased with the two Chardonnays and the Merlot that we tried even though all three were on the sweeter side. I would definitely be interested in returning and trying some of their other wines.

I didn't find any wines that suited my palate, but the service was awesome. They were busy when I walked in, but someone sat us down and promised to get back to us as soon as there was room at the tasting bar...and he even gave us a small glass of mulled wine to tide us over.Byrd was bigger than I expected; 17 acres of vines, 3500 cases/year. Not 'big' but bigger than like 75% of other Virginia wineries. They had several fruit wines as well. They also had Syrah on the tasting menu, which was one of the few non-estate wines they provide (not counting the fruit wines). One unique thing about Byrd is they specialize in the Concord grape. Normally, this is a bad thing...but here...I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't bad at all. Good, even!I only briefly sampled the fruit wines (which aren't my thing), but both the fruit and grape wines were easy drinking. The Creekside Chardonnay was very bright & light. The Apple/Concord blend was like juice with a kick. The apple brandy had a LOT of kick to it. The only one that I outright disliked was the Cabernet Sauvignon, which had too many blackberry notes for me.

We had the loveliest visit to Byrd Cellars. The wine was so tasty-- try the Apple, so crisp and light. The White Cat was also a favorite. But the staff were so helpful and accommodating to us and our pup, offering water and treats and lots of head rubs. You'll never have a nicer or friendlier tasting experience.

A tasting that includes a glass for only $7 bucks? I'll take it!Jerry, the gentlemen assisting us in the tasting, was super knowledgeable and really took the time to talk to us about every single wine. He gave us plenty of time to sip each individual tasting and poured enough to get at least 3 to 4 sips out of each one. He informed us about the different foods that pair well with each wine. I had been here 1 time before this visit and I did not get this amazing level of service and quality of time during that visit. I dont know it you can ask for a specific person to guide you through your tasting, but I would definitely call ahead to request Jerry! I will say most of the wines on the tasting menu are fairly sweet in my opinion, but thankfully Jerry let me taste some wines not on the tasting menu. It wasn't included in the price but led me to buy their most expensive bottle, so thank you Jerry for stepping outside of the menu for me and thinking about what I might like. The Norton Reserve was the bottle I ended up taking home. If you like a smokey dry red, this is the wine for you! We ordered the snack plate for only $10! We had the option of 4 cheeses, turkey or salami, and peanuts almonds or pub mix. We chose the port wine spread and cheddar spread. It tasted like Kraft American Singles in spread form. It wasn't bad by any means but dont expect typical charcuterie board quality cheeses. I'd still eat it, but I'd probably like it more if it was real cheddar.

I have not been to very many vineyards and this is not a super large place, but it is fantastic! There were four of us and we were out looking for a few places to visit as there are other vineyards and breweries in the area. We pulled up to this place about 20 minutes before they opened. We got out and were standing around on the side of the building just looking around. The lady working there came out and spoke with us and told us we could go up and sit on the porch and just hang out.. they would be open in a few minutes. She even brought out some white sangria while we were waiting... I don't even like Sangria and this stuff was awesome!!Once they were open, they invited us in for a tasting... but before that..This place looks like someone's house so as long as you go up the driveway where the sign is... you are in the right place. The girl that did our tasting was very nice and explained all the different samples. We started with a basic white and ended up with a Merlot. I think we tried about 10 samples, plus the white sangria again plus a wine slushie.. they had two options a pina colada and a strawberry.. both were good but the Pina Colada was really good.We went there not expecting much and ended up with the four of us splitting a case of wine.. you can mix and match the wines to get the 12 bottles for a case. This is where the experience could have deteriorated. We, admittedly, did not check the case of wine before we left.. so when we got back to our hotel- I went to put a bottle of sangria in the fridge so we could have it poolside later in the day... The case was not what we had ordered. We called the winery and the owner Bruce answered. He was super nice and apologized about the mix up. We told him that were leaving Richmond to drive home the next day- we are about 2.5 hours away from the vineyard when at home. He said that they were closed on the day we were driving back, but if we would call him when we were about 20 min out- he would meet us there. He also retook our order over the phone to make sure he had it right. We called him the next morning and he met us there. There was some confusion on how we filled the sheet out.. but never the less, he made it right- no issues. This seems to be a family run place with very down to earth, good peopleIf you are in the area.. definitely go.. It is a great find and try the White Sangria!!!

Byrd Cellars is unpretentious, homey, and an all around fun afternoon! The staff gives personalized attention and, when we were there, the owner Cathy took outstanding care of us. The beautiful setting aside, Byrd Cellars allowed us to bring our dog Waldo in and relax in the air conditioned tasting room. They brought out a dog dish and special treats just for their newest 4 legged furry guest. We are Byrd Cellar converts! Truthfully, so many little details made out visit special on Memorial Day weekend. The owner, Cathy, had red, white, and blue chocolate to taste along with flag themed cocktail napkins and flowers. The hosts were all dressed in red, white and blue as well as each table proudly displaying US pride. Way to represent! This area is full of small production, family owned, boutique style wineries. Having visited several hundred of the almost 300 boutique wineries in the state of Virginia (as well as CA, WA OR and NY), Byrd Cellars is one of the most customer friendly. It is hidden deep off River Rd in Goochland on the James River. Three generations of the family work on the 8 acres of vineyards and the cozy winery. They grow over 9 varieties of American, European, and Hybrid grapes. The wines are not for everyone, but this is a family winery that is a labor of love and for that reason it is special. We had a fabulous time with Jerry and his wife Kathie who talked us through the production of Byrd Cellar's unique wines as well as area history. Enjoy a cheese pairing, an interesting bottle in their cozy tasting room, relax on the porch, sit by the fireplace, or relax in the Winemaker's Loft.Just make it a "to do" on your list.

One of the best wineries around! Try the Meadowsweet if you like sweeter wines, it's delightful! Plenty of space for kids to play and a family friendly atmosphere. Also a great place to go for an anniversary or just to hang with friends. 5/5!
