The best steakhouse in the 757.It's so refreshing to see a place not only survive, but thrive. We first went 15 years ago, and it was even better this time. Our server was very attentive, and the overall service is next level. We went before a show at Chrysler Hall, and our waiter made every effort to expedite our meal.We ordered the Japanese A5 filet, and it was perfection in a piece of beef. The shareable sides were more than enough to make sure everyone got some. Even though it was the dinner rush, the restaurant was warm and wasn't overly loud.It was the best steakhouse 15 years ago, and it still is today.

I had the crab cakes and mashed potatoes with broccoli and a piece of cheese cake and creme brulee. The crab cakes were 90% crab and 10% filling. So I was pleased with that. The meat was good quality and it was filling. I'm not a crab cake kinda girl normally, but I'd definitely order these again. They had good flavor. The mashed potatoes were good, very creamy. The broccoli was steamed, it wasn't much flavor but I still liked it. It came with asparagus but I switched with someone else. The cheesecake was the star for me. It was a good sized portion, and the raspberry topping was delicious. I especially liked the thick crust!! Yum!! The creme brulee is an acquired taste. If you have texture issues, this definitely isn't the dessert for you. I've had better creme brulee in the past and this wasn't appealing to me. But it looked good. The food isn't cheap, it's certainly a more classy vibe. Somewhere great for a romantic dinner. I'd return for the crab cakes. The take out containers are reusable and they put the food in nice paper bags. Reservations are necessary if you have 5-8 people in your party, which they have a private room for. Also the dress code is business casual, and children under 12 aren't allowed. You should check out their website first if you want to know the rules.

Our entire experience was outstanding! From Pierre at the valet stand handling our cars with care to the hostess, management, and our waiter making sure we had an amazing dining experience, I appreciate it all! We went here for Mother's Day. I'll save the details of my chaotic day because that's not why you're reading this lmao just know the staff made my arrival a lot smoother . The ambiance is what you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Alexander was our waiter. He gave great recommendations, was very attentive and thoughtful! He also had valet pull up our vehicles as we were closing out our tab which was greatly appreciated. If you don't want to valet, there is limited street parking nearby if you don't mind a short walk. Food wise, we had the ribeye with the scallops and Gouda risotto (special), the fried gulf shrimp and the bone-in pork chop. Everything was delicious. EVERYTHING. All three dishes were seasoned to perfection, and risotto was cooked perfectly (i'm very picky about my risotto). If you order the steak it probably won't be the best steak you've ever had, BUT it will be delicious. I ordered the cheesecake for dessert which also didn't disappoint. I absolutely recommend dining here.

If you're looking for a wonderful place to enjoy an upscale dining experience, you should check out Byrd & Baldwin Bros just off Granby Street in the heart of downtown Norfolk. They really know how to make their customers feel special. The food is amazing and the bartenders are cranking out craft cocktails that are creative and delicious. If you have the time, ask for a tour of their Wine Cellar. Be prepared, it's a constant 50 something degrees down there so bundle up.

5/5 experience! My family and I went for a special event and we were not disappointed. We started out with the bone marrow and oysters rockefeller as appetizers. The bone marrow was extremely rich, with outstanding flavor and the oysters were wonderful. For our main courses we had the rack of lamb, a black diamond ribeye off of the night's specials and the tomahawk Wagyu. We were blown away by the quality and masterful cooking of each dish. The lamb was so tender and the tomahawk wagyu had to be the best steak any member of my family has ever tried. For sides, we would definitely recommend the mashed potatoes as they were deliciously creamy. We finished with a decadent key lime pie for dessert. The entire experience was 10/10 would recommend this steak house to anyone looking to celebrate something special or enjoy incredible food. Lastly, we asked for a tour of the restaurant's wine cellar and wow was it impressive! Definitely ask for a tour if you're interested! We will 100% be back.

My two coworkers and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here one evening. The waiter was beyond attentive and accommodating and went far to ensure we all enjoyed our meal. The ribeye was one of the tastiest pieces of meat I've had in a while. It was tender and seasoned well and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The crab meat Mac and Brie cheese was simply amazing. I shared it with one of my coworkers and she loved it as well! The salmon was cooked perfectly as well. The escargot did not disappoint, just needed more bread to sop up that garlic butter. We will definitely return on our next work trip as this place is truly a self indulgent treat!

My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. We had a wonderful time! The host and our server were excellent. All of our questions were answered and our server's recommendations were on point! We had the Ahi Tuna Tar Tar which was super refreshing and yummy. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and super tender. The place is a bit pricey but we didn't mind. They had cozy lighting and played jazz music! Unfortunately, I did forget my credit card but they held on to it for me and called me asap which I appreciated. Parking is a bit tricky as you'd have to find street parking or use their valet service which was $7 like we did - to save ourselves the trouble. Overall, it was great and we will be coming back!

Hubs & I had a nice date night at Byrd & Baldwin yesterday evening, thanks to a generous gift from friends. High-end steakhouses are not generally in our wheelhouse, but it was great for a change of pace! This one also comes with a strict dress code, which they note on the website as well as a posted sign just outside the entrance. The restaurant is housed off Granby Street in the heart of downtown Norfolk. Entrance is on Brooke Ave and valet parking is offered. The fee is $7. When my husband asked if he paid at pick up, the valet affirmed and mentioned that "tips are greatly appreciated." It was a little off-putting and not the best first impression to start our night. The entrance is up a flight of stairs and we were immediately greeted by the host. I had reserved bar high-top seating, but he offered the main dining room. The table suggested was right at the entrance, so we declined. We were escorted downstairs to the cozy bar area. It's more dimly-lit than the dining room, but it was welcoming with lots of dark wood and iron decor, a wine cellar, full bar and a spacious private dining room. We were greeted immediately by our server and offered tap or bottled water while we browsed the extensive wine and cocktail menus. The bar is most definitely not recommended for those looking for an intimate evening. Between the ambient sound and the squeaky floor above, it is far from quiet. This did not deter us. I really liked the atmosphere of this dining space. Our server and the bartender traded off service during our visit. The bartender was very friendly and pleasant. Our regular server, while prompt, had a few too many rehearsed one-liners and it started to feel very awkward by the end of our meal. Some details about our selections:The Godfather Cocktail - B&B's twist on the Old Fashioned. Husband wanted a whiskey selection that was more bitter, less bright so selected this. He commented that it was good, but not great and he still favors the Old Fashioned at Becca. Luck be a Lady - A good balance of sweet and sour. Strong blueberry and lime flavors. We were served an amuse bouche of toast point with sliced beef and a red curry sauce. It was heavenly! Dinner rolls are also served with whipped butter. These were melt-in-the-mouth good with just a hint of sweetness.Oysters Rockefeller - Good flavor. Full of parm and spinach, which I love. The bacon was, however, in large pieces, very fatty and undercooked. I wish it had been crispier to balance the soft oyster.Salmon - We both really wanted to order this, but I relented and let husband get it. If the risotto had just been more seasoned, it would have been perfect. The flavor of the caramelized onion topping was a great accompaniment. The salmon was just slightly overcooked to his request of medium, but still tasted delicious. The crab and spinach risotto was full of lump crabmeat.Crab Cake - Literally 2 giant balls of crab. I couldn't find any filling, so they must get the thing to hold together by sheer willpower. It came with steamed asparagus and red-skinned mashed potatoes. This entree was spectacular!Overall, it was a very nice experience. I'd like to return to enjoy the main dining room and few other entrees!

We reserved the private main dining room to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday.Cons:Upon arriving a few hours early to drop off some items, I was greeted by a rude, unprofessional, and aggressive employee. I walked in, said "Hello, I'm here to drop off some items for the private dining room." The staff member replied, "Which room? They have several!" I said, "I'm not sure, this is my first time here." She snapped, "Well, you'll have to go find someone to help you." I was taken aback by her attitude. Never did I expect to encounter such behavior at a fine dining establishment. I told her, "No, you'll go find someone, as you're the employee here." A manager appeared and tried to brush it off, explaining that the staff member was part of their cleaning team. I told her that regardless of her position, no customer should be treated that way.To make matters worse, the staff ruined my mother's 60th birthday balloon arrangement. I had provided very specific instructions for the setup, but someone mixed the two separate arrangements. When I arrived, the balloons were tangled and carelessly thrown aside. It was beyond frustrating--$100 down the drain. The waitress offered a half-hearted apology and suggested cutting the strings. Cutting them would've just made all the balloons fall to the floor. No one offered any reimbursement or compensation for the ruined arrangement.Pros:On the plus side, the private dining room itself was a great choice. It was a perfect size for our party of 16, with a cozy ambiance, jazz music playing, and a lit fireplace. The table arrangement was lovely. The food was good but not exceptional--I'd rate it a 3 out of 5 stars. We had a prix fixe menu that included crab bisque, salad, crab cakes, salmon, steak, mashed potatoes, broccoli, and asparagus. The portions of crab bisque and the side dishes were small, and I felt like we weren't getting full-sized servings. The dessert options--cheesecake, crème brûlée, and Mexican chocolate Kahlúa mousse--seemed to be full-sized portions, but the rolls were limited. When I asked for more, our waiter declined, but thankfully the waitress brought out extras later. The drinks were overpriced and watered down, especially the sangria.Total price: $2,260.Would I go back? Maybe. My mother had a good time, which is what mattered most. The staff who waited on our table were pleasant, but the overall experience was soured by the initial encounter and the issues with the balloons.
