I was home for a few days for Memorial Day weekend, and while strawberry picking wasn't on my list of things to do, I'm so glad my best friend mentioned it! We were initially going to stop by the annual Strawberry Festival in Pungo, but ended up at Brookdale Farm nearby. It was pretty empty when we went around 4/5pm on Saturday. It's so scenic and peaceful out in Pungo and my friend and I had so much fun walking through the field and picking strawberries. Apparently, it's toward the end of the picking season, but we found some beautiful and plump berries! We each filled up the bucket ($1) and we both paid around $12-13 (I want to say between 4-5lb). I'd suggest possibly wearing long sleeves or gloves while picking because there are little bugs when you lift the vines up to pick. My wrists and arms are a bit itchy but nothing too bothersome. I'll definitely have to come back next season! The stand where you pay also has an array of jams and butters that you can purchase.

The farm was neat, well kept and welcoming. The girl at the counter said hello well before we got to the stand and was very informative on the farm policies. The farm is doing a study with TCC which was really neat, when asked about the study the farmer was very knowledgeable and friendly. The berries OH MY GOODNESS so delicious! I will be back without question

Came here for a field trip. My daughters 1st for elementary school. All the picnic tables were in the blasting sun, the staff was rude, and turned away 8 parents. Very disheartening experience. Was told to sit under a tree because they were over capacity and don't accept cash as the gate. Would not recommend coming to here! We won't be back and will be informing the district.

My son's school came here for a field trip today. I arrived earlier than the buses with my 2.5 year old who was excited to see the farm with her big brother. Before the kids even got off the bus a gruff lady approached me and asked what I wanted. I told her I was there for my son's field trip. She immediately got irritated and told me that siblings were not welcomed and went on for a while about how the babies didn't enjoy it and it made for a bad experience for everyone. I was the only parent there and they could have made an exception for the one sibling. I told her I was going to wait for my son to get off the bus so I could let him know what was going on as he was expecting me to be there. Again another staff member approached me and rudely informed that I needed to leave because siblings weren't welcome. I understand it is not the farm's fault but the school's for not communicating the details but the way the staff spoke to me was inappropriate and unprofessional. I stayed and picked strawberries with my daughter only because she had been anticipating the activity otherwise I would have left and not given them my business. My family prefers to go strawberry picking at Hickory Ridge or Greenbrier Farms. There's a lot to do there and the strawberries are perfect. Brookdale Farm is boring and their strawberries are moldy and gross. We usually pick about $15-$20 worth of strawberries but barely was able to find $7 worth. If my son's school returns next year I will keep him home to go Strawberry picking at a proper and professional farm. Save yourself the trip and the bad experience. Go to Greenbrier Farms or Hickory Ridge!

We moved to the area in June of 2010 and missed the strawberry craze that takes over in April and May. So, the spring of 2011 was our first introduction to the idea of picking strawberries and the number of places at which you can do it. We are now addicted! Though our sample size is admittedly small, our favorite place to go is Brookdale Farm. They have two locations, one in Pungo and one in Chesapeake, and their prices are quite reasonable. We just went this past weekend and ended up with nearly three freezer bags full of strawberries for less than 15 bucks. Much better quality and price than what you get at the market. Yes, you have to pick them and it is a bit of work but on a great spring day, it's a pleasant way to spend some time outdoors. If you love strawberries, I would recommend checking out their two locations. I know we will!

This is a great little farm and they are super kid friendly. Right now is strawberry pick'n season and you can go out there empty handed and come back with a delicious bounty. A few tips to make this the best experience. Make sure you wear shoes you can get muddy and bring a spare for the ride to Bergey's for ice-cream! If you bring your own bag you don't have to pay a dollar for their basket. They also sell fabulous preserves and other seasonal goodies at the stand.Don't forget to come back in the fall for the best pumpkin pick'n and great photo ops! They also do hay rides and have games for the kiddos in the fall. We've made some fantastic family memories here!

What a fabulous Pumpkin Patch!!! We have been to several in the area over the years. But this was by far the very best. Not only do they take time to educate you but they also let the kids dress up, make and taste butter, and see real fees corn and all it's uses! We will definitely be going back. Thanks Brookdale!

Great strawberries, terrible staff. Strawberry picking is a fabulous springtime activity, providing outdoor fun and the unmissable delight of fresh-picked strawberries. The Pungo location even has animals for the kids to enjoy looking at when they get tired of berry-picking. However, if you find a middle-aged woman with short light hair running the service stand, I highly recommend you hightail it out of there. She is rude, abrasive, and eminently capable of ruining your positive experience. It doesn't take much to provoke a confrontation with her.

A poorly run business. I won't go into all the details of my bad experience, but it is made very clear that they care more about their rules and their plants than the people who come to enjoy them. A poor business model. My friends and I will gladly choose from one of the many other farms next time.
