There for a swim meet. It was okay I experienced racism with two employees at the pool deck. I wanted to get a massage to grandchild I asked two employees a question and they looked at me strange. I thought since they were standing there and it was two of them perhaps one of them could get a massage to the coach. So sad that they didn't have any concerns about helping out, why are you assisting if you can't assist with the matter. Get employees/volunteers who are willing to assist with the event.

BMAC as it is most affectionately known, is an indoor swimming pool ran by the city of Newport News. It offers more than just a pool in the building as I will further go into. The day to day operation has a staff of city of NN employees.The location of the facility sets on the Newport News/Hampton border and is off the Mercury/Jefferson corridor close to the James River Bridge. The parking lot can easily accommodate many visitors, however when large swim meets are taking place it fills. The staff take great strides to keep the building clean and well maintained. The guards are all Red Cross certified and in my experience very competent and care about the safety of those that participant in their programs.The pool itself is a 50 meter competition pool with movable bulk heads for conversion to 25 yards (basically splitting the 50 in half). The pool for Short Course season (25 yards) keeps the bulkhead in the middle.The deck around pool has three rows of spectator seating. Visitors are NOT allowed to bring in food, or swim back packs inside the aquatic area. The pool features two 3 meter diving boards. Restrooms and locker rooms are available. As well deck showers are outside the locker rooms.Two year around clubs utilize the pool. The Coastguards Blue Devils and the SEVA Seahawks. At the times these clubs would conduct practice part of the pool would be closed off, but lanes would be made available for pass members etc.The building also offers a gym with a full basketball court, a daycare, multi-pourpose rooms for dance, yoga, etc. There is a room that offers a kitchen with sink, stove and refrigerator. A large under cover outside area features three basketball courts. You can rent out the multi-purpose rooms and pool for parties.Daily passes ($3-$5), punch cards ($19-$24), annual and collegiate passes ($50-$70) are available for both Newport News and non residents at an up charge. All of these prices in my experience are very reasonable. The facility itself is in the red every year. The city of NN subsidizes to a great degree which is wonderful for those that utilize this very nice aquatic facility.It would be hard to believe if you are a Newport News, or Hampton resident that you do not know about this facility. This is a major asset to not only the Newport News, but to Hampton Roads. This Aquatic Center offers the ONLY 50 meter pool used for Long Course competition. I encourage you to check it out if this is something that you, or family can utilize.

Woo hoo! I finally found a place within 30 minutes of home with a deep end in which I can get my aqua jog on! This place is pretty basic, but what is there is top notch. This is seriously the nicest public pool I've been to in both the Richmond and Hampton Roads areas. When I went on a Saturday afternoon, they had several open lanes for swimming and a few in the diving well. I had a whole 25 yard lane to myself that had a 7' depth for my aqua jogging pleasure. Bonus- I had entertainment because there was a dive team practice going on at the same time! Staff and lifeguards were friendly and explained where to go when I inquired. In addition to the pool there is an indoor bball court and 3 outdoor bball courts under a pavilion. I'm giving it 5 stars because prices are dirt cheap. It was $6 as a nonresident for a day pass and an annual pass is just north of $100. I'm probably going to join. To me even if I use it only once a week, it's totally worth it for that price point.

Midtown Aquatics has the only 50 meter pool around. Its great for family swim, water aerobic classes, and competitive swimming. There is also an indoor gym and basketball court.

Lots of lanes. Very cheap yearly cost. Water isn't cold. Facilities are clean. However when you're swimming laps it's a 25 yd/meter (idr) length. So its wall-wall-wall-wall *insert meme about that* not a whole lot of swimming. good thing I'm not the best swimmer and therefore it's a lot of paddling.

At less than $100 a year it's a great deal for a nice lap swim facility. Excellent lap swimming pool. Water is always nice and cool for a workout, usually plenty of lanes, and some nice deeper water too depending on the day. A few negatives that add up to costing it a star are: the showers are lacking a bit; some of the shallow lanes have some wonky stripping on the bottom which doesn't line up with the lane in places; when the swim team is in there you lose a lot of lanes and are forced to the shallower lanes; there a lane that has a ladder right in the middle of the wall (though if you ask they will sometimes take it out for you).

Great place for the kids. Nice pool, facilities and most important great staff i would say it is a little better than the ymca. They have a lot of great learning activities for the ki da inatead of them just running around. There is definitely an educational component.
