Well, it's been five years since my last review...and this place apparently didn't impress enough for me to revisit, despite being quite close to my workplace. I'm just not terribly crazy about the "order at the counter" style of restaurant if I'm going out to eat. But, I belong to a group that decided to meet here for an event, so I ended up giving it another shot. The interior is still cute, and the concept is nice. I like that you can get mini/micro pours of things. I feel like it used to be a set amount, but now you can literally just pour a taste to see if you like it with a micro charge and then add more or move on if you don't like it. That was really useful since I'm not much of a beer drinker - it took me a while to find one I could sip on.I ordered the sliders - now what I thought was cool about this (and again, I don't remember it being this way the last time I was there, but I also ordered whole burgers last time) is that you could customize your sliders. So I was able to order three different sliders which was awesome. I tried the bourbon, the brie, and the shrooms. Of the trio, the bourbon was my favorite and the other two were sort of a toss up second place. They were cooked correctly and hit the spot.Overall, I'd say it was a notch up from my last visit and I'd be willing to try it again if I'm in the mood for some mini burgers!

Unique beer hall style bar & grill. Elongated restaurant with an odd seating arrangement based on the shape of the location. Very little privacy between tables. Very good customer service. Friendly and helpful staff. Kitchen is open to the second half of the seating area so that can get loud for customers. Good beer selection with a pay card to charge up for each of your pours. Overall good selection of beers and they have wine on tap for those who like wine. They have non-alcoholic drinks as well. Burgers are very flavorful. My kids like the pretzels, but too dry for my taste. They have a variety of food options on the menu so it covers most tastes. You should be able to find something to help soak up your beer.

This place is pretty good. They use a system that is gaining popularity where you get a card and then put yourself with the card tracking your ounces. Almost everything is self serve except actually grabbing your food. There were 14 "taps" with each "tap" containing three different drink. Most were beer with a few being cider and one being wine so decent selection. I really liked that they had small glasses so you could test a drink in small amounts. Negative part was the instruction on pouring your beer making it seem like if you pulled it too slow it would give too much head. However, most tap beer is going to give a lot of head which is why most bartenders pour out some of the foam when pouring. So you're paying for a lot of head here. Food was pretty good. No complaints. Decent prices and it tasted fresh and good. Good choice on burgers. Very loud. Everything is hard surfaced so nothing soaks up the sound. This is fine if you're out to party but if you just want to relax the. This place may not be for you. I'm being generous with a four because the service was good, meaning the person took our order and brought our food. The food and beer was good. Negatives are noise, paying for foam, and I don't like paying regular prices for beer when I have to get my own glass and pour my own beer. The place had two people in it and I did most of the work.

Ohmigawd the burgers here are absolutely spectacular! I admit, I haven't tried eating here because the name threw me off. I didn't relish the idea of eating at a rowdy pub with beer guzzling students. Shame on me because this place is not rowdy and the food is definitely fantastic. The stuffed burgers are HUGE, unique, flavorful, cooked to perfection, quality ingredients, and so delicious! I also recommend the onion rings. I don't drink alcohol so I didn't try any of the 42 beers on tap, but I understand there is something for every beer drinker. On my first visit, I had a brie and fig stuffed burger that was swoon-worthy. For my second visit I had a cowboy burger. I'm telling you, my eyes closed in rapture! My very picky son had a chicken sandwich and pronounced it as the best chicken sandwich he has ever had! This place has to be the best burger place in town. Go and see for yourself. You won't be sorry.

Fun night out out activity! Not a huge place but has long tables so can accommodate big groups. They had three wines and four ciders (not a beer girl) and option to pour any size you want.Greasy, yet tasty, bar food is available.

I have to be careful about coming here too often as I could see it becoming a regular spot for me! I've always been a fan of these self-pour tap places, where a customer can sample different beers. Suffolk has theirs, Norfolk used to have Mix It Up and now they have a place with a dozen or so selections on Shore Drive, but there had been nothing like this on the peninsula. As I recall, Beervana had about two dozen beers to choose from, as well as a few wines and ciders. Since it was late September, the pumpkins were sneaking their way onto the board. I did not have any food, but I will consider it for next time. And the staff was really engaging, I appreciated their assistance and they seemed genuinely thankful that I stopped in.

Oof, we stopped by Beervana over a year ago, and I just realized I never wrote my review- how un-yelp-like of me!On a long road trip, we were looking for some breweries to make pit-stop & break up the drive- VA has a lot to offer, so it was fantastic finding Beervana, giving us the option to try a lot of local variety without a lot of added detours- Their self-pour, tap card tab made it easy to sample the vast selection- bonus for us they had about 10 IPAs on tap-even rotating a few while we were there-We didn't try any food, but their menu offers artisan burgers-including a make your own style & from seeing some other diner's orders the burgers were hearty and well stuffed!Overall, the ambiance was fantastic, we eased into the couch lounge area with the built-in checkers board & played some nostalgic games while tasting our flights-while we didn't enjoy many of the drafts we tried, it was a nice experience without breaking the bank. (deceivingly quaint for a random strip mall location)Would definitely add as a pit-stop visit again!Note: They have a lot of various 'events' and happy hour specials day-to-day!

Fantastic burgers and beer at this small tap house in Newport News. When we've been able to get it and have a burger we've always been delighted by the food and the staff. However, three separate times my wife and i have gone the the hours listed on yelp & google have been wrong or there was a private event that wasn't listed anywhere so we were unable to dine. We just want your food!

Long and narrow facility. Courteous service. I liked being able to sample all the beers (you pay per ounce). The owner/manager on site was helpful. I arrived toward the end of the night and the place was empty, so the kitchen was closed but he still fired up a pretzel for me. I did like some of the beers and wished I got a chance to try some of the food. But after the hassle of getting up and swiping a card for every pour, I think I'd rather enjoy the old fashioned method of ordering from a bartender.
