This is a family-owned bookstore tucked into the Timbuk II shopping center. I believe the husband-and-wife team hand-selects books for their inventory resulting in an eclectic and very interesting selection despite the small size of their store. There's plenty of material for your own reading and for gifts. I've always supported "bricks and mortar" bookstores - a sadly dying breed - but this one is a special place worth the time, even if you're in your "happy place" on a much-needed vacation!

I was surprised and delighted to find so many good books in this quaint local bookstore in the middle of a bustling tourist attraction. I made a day trip from Nags Head to Duck and Corolla, and spotted this bookstore. To my amazement, it had lots of recent and current best sellers as well as historical and classic reads.I was most excited about a book on the Romanovs and Russian (Bolshevik) Revolution, as I had just finished another book on the Romanovs two days before. They had all of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novels and the cover of Tender is the Night that I've been searching for. I grabbed a couple Greek mythology books, Arabian Nights, and The Yellow Wallpaper as well. There were a couple other books I wish I'd bought. They also have cute cat/book totes in case you can't carry all the books you buy.I'm admiring my Beach Book haul now. It was a success! Thank you, Beach Books!

Wonderful selection in a small space. My grandchildren enjoyed the book selection and chose several books. We go there regularly.

Visited briefly because husband and I were looking for books to read while on vacation. I think the problem was that we had two small kids with us. While the kids were rowdy/loud, and were touching books, we were fully aware of what they were doing and stayed with them. As a former librarian, I'm very particular about ensuring things are placed back in order, as well as conscientious of condition. However, as we moved from one place in the store to the next the person working went behind us obviously 'straightening' anything we touched, though I had already put the items back in their original places and nothing was left in leas than pristine condition. Prior to me noticing this my oldest (5) had found a book he loved and I was fully intending on purchasing (though was saying no due to already feeling uncomfortable by the lack of friendliness). After a few other family arrived and they weren't even greeted we made a hasty exit.

The owners showed little patience with my 5 yer old granddaughter who was choosing a book with her father and while doing so she explored their children's selection. The owner was upset because she felt my granddaughter looked at too many books and used one that had buttons with a battery she was worried about being ldrained. . Our GD began reading this summer and we ask her to read a page or two of a book to determine if she could read it all. We always buy the entire family (6 adults and 2 kids) new books on OBX vacations. But we usually shop in Duck. We were ready to purchase any book she liked. My son reports that the two owners were very unkind and asked them to leave if they weren't buying anything. Our GD ended up in tears about how they treated her and she was crying out in front of the shop. I take her to Barnes and Noble and several independent book stores we visit regularly and she has never shown any behavior that should have for her evicted. When I called the owner she explained that she knew we weren't going to buy anything. Clairvoyant perhaps? It could be that this is a lovely bookstore and the owners are lovely too. But they clearly don't wish to have children in the shop who might look at their books.... And they seem comfortable with confronting a child and asking them to leave. For these reasons alone they don't deserve to have the community purchasing from them. There are other just lovely shops that read to kids, let their books be touched and looked over. You are down there on vacation, spent a ton of money on a rental, dragged yourselves to Corolla to look for books and then your 5 year old brand new reader is in tears. Shame on you !!! Get rid of the children's section if you can't find the trust in your heart to accommodate purchasers in that age group. We come down every summer (24 years now) and will do all our book shopping in Duck. Others should too. Nothing special here other that two seemingly cross individuals who don't want their books looked at by kids or adults.
