Barrys Walnut Island Restaurant

Great hidden spot along the main road toward OBX! (Turn at the Hardee's/Royal Farms and keep on goin' to the end of the road.) It's definitely a local divey hideaway, with tons of cool and eclectic rural backwoods decor. GREAT FOOD. The boom boom shrimp sauce was really good, and the mushrooms had an unusual-looking, yet fantastic, coating and fry! Huge portion of those huge shrooms, as the photo shows. The 1 lb. portion of Steamed Shrimp was also huge! I guess I didn't realize how large the shrimp would be, and there are 15-20 in that bucket. They DO go very heavy on the Old Bay! I turned over the top shrimp so it wouldn't be so visible in the photo. Our awesome server Karen told us it would be that way, and next time I'll ask for light-to-no seasoning, because it really was very heavy (and therefore, salty). But still excellent! I never leave seafood on the plate, but there was just too much for me to finish. Google before you visit, because I understand the hours can vary. But worth the trip if you're looking for downhome rural waterside! Hubby and stepson have already been back several times on their Harleys, both for lunch and dinner. They love the hometown "Cheers" feel of the bar.

Great food, but the salads are a little soggy. Service is good, my waitress was really kind. the environment/ambiance was good, it was like a small-town vibe.

3.5 stars is fair. Go for the chicken wings. It's a hole in the wall locals joint, but the wings are Huge, and really good. They keep it simple, with hot sauce or without. I would've appreciated if they fully plucked the wings though, and gotten those random feathers out of there.

About three times a year me and my boyfriend make a little trip about a 2 Hour Dr. getaway and our go to spot is a Barrys Walnut Island Restaurant and large they have 12 rooms and each room has a different theme and of course different sizes to accommodate families and smaller or larger groups we love their butterfly room and their beach room and they're cowboy themed rooms we just recently tried room 11 which is a chic room with Very up-to-date decor and it has a really nice Jacuzzi that we have lots of fun with! It is on the island so cell phone reception is not that great but who needs a cell phone when you're on a vacation and want to get away! The best part is that it's connected to the actual barrys restaurant so you have to go to the restaurant to book your room or you can call of course and they have been able to leave the keys in the room for us if we arrive late or out of the restaurant hours. Being connected to a restaurant you can just walk right out of your room to the restaurant they have a full bar and amazing food so you really don't have to get in your car unless you need to go to Food Lion which is a three minute drive from Barry's ( also 2 gas stations - a Hardee's - Dunkin' - and Mexican restaurant ) all next to eachother just 3 minutes away!!! The food was great and on weekends they have DJs and live music. It's literally right on the water so fishing definitely available they have a nice dock that goes out for views fishing and even can grab a drink and just sit and watch the sun set. We love this place and definitely will be back for sure ! Also... SANDY WAS THE BEST! Very good bartender , nice and very attentive. See you soon Donna!!

Now you've got to go into this place with the right frame of mind, it's not one of those fancy on the water restaurants over in Duck or Kitty Hawk. They bill themselves as a seafood and steak house but it seems to be a bit more of a dive bar with steaks and seafood. The pictures on their website make it look way fancier than it is. It is a very friendly to bikers and has a bunch of biker items in the restaurant/bar. It was also a biker week when we went and there were a bunch of bikes in parking lot. Maybe I'm off on the vibe as we did only eat at the bar so maybe the rest of the restaurant has a different feel. Regardless though the food was surprisingly good, the service friendly and fast and the place super clean. Whenever a restaurant has a bunch of tchotchkes there is usually a bunch of dust built up but not here! The bathrooms were also super clean! We ordered a couple of appetizers wasabi bites and crab balls. Both were delicious. The wasabi bites were new to me, I doubt they make them but I've never seen them before. We had a great time hanging out at the bar with a number of locals and ended up having friends in common with people to either side of us! Small world!!

Just had a tasty lunch Calamari was so good then had the soft shell crabsBreaded lightly and perfectly cooked, omg don't miss this hidden gem with a gorgeous view on the waterPriced very reasonable and waitress a joy

Great little place on the way to Corona! Nothing fancy, but very nice! Stopped in to stay the night & Beat The traffic on Saturday Morning going into Corona! Older motel, but it's been remodeled and kept up very well. Very Clean! For Reservations the Staff was prompt calling us back and very friendly! Reasonable prices, we had a 3 bedroom unit for $175.00. Went to the restaurant for dinner and all of our meals were great! Outside Waterfront dining was a great start to our vacation! Crab cake & hush puppies were delicious! They Even have a few RV spots that are on the canal. Tiki Bar looked nice but wasn't open! I Would give 5 stars if they had a pool!

A great find just off the beaten path heading to the outer banks! Come enjoy a very pleasant and relaxing experience. Just had the burger, but was one of the best I've had in a long time!! Along with the fresh cut fries, was a great lunch stop.

Politics and seafood do not mix. I get it, this is Trump country but being constantly bombarded with GOP flags and lawn signs while eating is a bit uncomfortable. We had the she crab soup, which was NOT authentic she crab soup. It was watery and had huge pieces of onions with a layer of film on the top. The scallop dinner we had was below average. The scallops were soggy due to the fact they were placed on a wet piece of lettuce and the fries were scant and what seemed like to us, fried twice and definitely not fresh. One star for the nice pour of whiskey my husband received and another for the view. Next time we will wait until we hit Chesapeake to grab food on our way out of the OBX. The place was a ghost town, now I see why.

Local bar and grill, everyone is so friendly. I recommend the Steak and Burgers! There Open late on the weekends and pretty good crowd
