Barefoot Bernie's Tropical Grill & Bar

This is our first visit to BB's (they always seem to be packed with a waiting line in the summer, but it's mid-Fall, so we thought we'd be able to get in!) We put in our name to wait to be seated. It was only a 5 minute wait for the three of us.We were seated in the back section (behind the bar & high-chaired tables.) The whole place is decorated for Halloween. It was a great atmosphere! We liked where we were seated... sort of away from the crowds, with only one big table nearby. Our waitress, Lilli, was friendly and very efficient. We were never want for a drink. We started off with cups of New England clam chowder. It was fresh/ homemade delicious! I ordered the chicken jambalaya dinner (scrumptious!), hubby had the pollo loco chicken (good, but he thought it needed some seasoning) and daughter ordered the cheese pizza (good.) We then ordered desserts. YUM!I got the seasonal dessert, Strawberry Cheesecake. Hubby & daughter got Warm Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie w/ Vanilla Bean ice cream and fudge drippings full of warm chocolaty deliciousness. Very satisfying dinner! Highly recommend BB's!

The Texas Beast Burger is one of the most insane burgers I have ever seen. It's an absolute unit of a sandwich fit for the Hossiest of Hosses. I mean, just look at my photos of it, it's as big as your head! My girlfriend's son has a bottomless pit of a stomach and even he couldn't finish it. Getting in here can be a chore, even in the off season the wait can be hours. To be honest, it's pretty bad. I wish they'd offer reservations with a fee that gets applied to your dinner, this would keep people from making them and not showing up. We waited about 60 minutes to get in (were told 90 minutes) after stopping by a couple days in a row and being told is was 3 hours! The parking lot isn't small but it doesn't have enough parking for the restaurant capacity so we were parked in the shopping center next door. They didn't tow us but who knows what would happen in the busy season. We were told there is an arcade in the back of the restaurant that you can wait in but we couldn't find it. We really wanted to eat here because of the Yelp reviews hence the multiple attempts to get here. For starters we got the bang-bang chicken. It was pretty good. Nothing to write home about. Crispy and flavorful. We also got some drinks. My girlfriend enjoyed a painkiller in a to-go cup that looked like a kids sippy cup. I got the 14 Day Oak Barrel Aged Old Fashioned and it was pretty decent. My girlfriend's dinner was the Brazilian steak carnival and I wish I had gotten it myself! I settle on a salad that I didn't even take a photo of. Other kid got the seafood gumbo and really enjoyed it.We skipped dessert and opted to get ice cream elsewhere. Overall it was a great meal. Would I wait an hour to get in here again? No. Would I eat here again if it were a 15 minute wait? Yes. It's good but not wait for hours good.

We are always looking for fried chicken. Barefoot Bernie's has it featured as a special on Wednesday nights. We tried one time but this special is extremely popular and we were too late in the evening and did not want to wait.This time we decided to take-out and went about 4:45pm. We decided that one dinner of a half chicken would be plenty for the two of us. We subbed an extra serving of mashed potatoes for our optional side, since we both wanted them and had other things for sides at home.The chicken was good, with nice seasonings. The breast was a little dry, but not bad. It would be nice to order all dark meat and maybe we could have. The mashed potatoes were delicious, and well-seasoned. I can see doing this again.Beyond fried chicken Wednesday, Barefoot Bernie's has an interesting menu and we really need to try lunch there.

Stopped in on taco Tuesday night and really glad I did. Got a seat at the bar and the bartender was awesome. She recommended the tacos and I got one of each. All of them were good but my favorite was the Ahi Tuna. The Carne Asada and the pork were a tie and the buffalo shrimp was good as well. The chicken taco was good but had a little too many beans for me but the flavors were still good. Overall the service, the atmosphere and the food were great. Will definitely be stopping in next time I'm in town.

Great lunch spot with a fun and casual vibe. Service was awesome and my food came out quickly, despite the restaurant being very busy. Lots of options to pick from. The Cuba-Q sandwich was very good!

The food is always good and the vibes are always nice. The servers are friendly and efficient. They have a very good burger and it's a decent size with a decent price. Plenty of parking and usually pretty quick table turnovers.

OMG, so delicious! We got the seafood gumbo and fish and chips. Let me tell you, both are the best dishes ever. The gumbo was really good, but be prepared--it's very rich. The fish and chips were perfectly crispy and oh so yummy. The mayo sauce was sooo good, and the slaw was delicious too. Let's just say, we finished both dishes easily. I would definitely come here again.I love the feel and ambience, it really made us feel like we're on vacation. The staff were wonderful as well. Thank you for making this a great experience.

another great dinner while on vacation. by Wednesday night (i think), i'd begun to grow a little tired of seafood so i ordered the Szechuan Steak Tacos and subbed the sides that came w/ it for, what i think was, coconut rice. that rice was incredible. the tacos were spicy and delicious as well. Danielle was a bit disappointed to find her potato side was just mashed potatoes but did love her honey-glazed salmon.we also bought the Kill Devilled Eggs as an appetizer. they were incredible so i bought two more orders to go so as to share with my brother and sister in law (who also loved them).

Wow this place hit the spot! Just for some context, my wife and I made it to Kitty Hawk, NC after a 13 hour drive from the Indianapolis metro area. So we were hungry and needed a beer or two. Barefoot Bernie's delivered. We knew it was good when we saw a line out the door, but thankfully there were two open spots at the bar (which is typically how we roll). The bartenders were really nice and attentive. So finally we got a couple beers. I ordered a Red Oak lager brewed out of Charlotte, so good. Now on to food, we ordered the seafood gumbo and pub style fish n' chips. The gumbo was excellent and surprisingly rich toward the end. The fish n' chips was a little extra, it was served with waffle fries, coleslaw and a tangy mayonnaise dipping sauce. By the time we finished our food and yes, we ate all of it, we headed back to the beach to let it digest. Definitely check out Barefoot Bernie's if you come visit the outer banks North Carolina. Friendly service and great food and drinks.

Good staff, varied menu. Good for a quick bite to eat. Nothing fancy or over the top items. Margie F
