Cute, clean friendly place! The service was fast. I was the only one in line at the time. I also noticed the variety of chips and baked goods on the side for purchase! They looked so soft and fresh.I ordered bacon egg and cheese on a blueberry bagel, It was very soft and not too sweet. I wish I got a blueberry bagel to go!I also ordered the house "sweet cream" iced coffee. That is the best one I've ever had! I'm looking forward to trying the LOX bagel next!

The owner of Route 58 passed away. It was rumored that a family member would run it but that didn't happen. His daughter lives in another state and didn't want to move so the family sold it.It is now similar to the old layout. However the kitchen is closed off, the pictures are gone from the wall and the cheesecake does greet you at the door. Currently they are open 8am to 3pm. They are planning on opening for dinner but not yet.As usual Bill and I shared a sandwich. I get 1/4 which is all I can eat. I did hear a gentleman order 1/4 of a sandwich I didn't know you can do that. Skip the fries. $6.00 for a bowl of crinkle cuts. Also know there is a 3.5% added for using plastic.Service was outstanding.

I was meeting a friend there for breakfast. When I entered, the person greeting me was warm and friendly. She seated me quickly and I had no complaints about the seat.My server looked over into my area and let out an audible sigh and said "great". I'm not so sure what she was so disappointed about when she hadn't even spoken to me yet. I can only assume it was my nationality. When my friend, who happened to be another nationality, arrived she received all the attention and I was politely ignored. Not a good sign at all. We were the only ones in the restaurant. It was very early. The food was good, but I left with a very bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure the owners are probably wonderful and this one server unintentionally let her feelings about certain populations be known. I think it's a good place, but based on my experience, I can't recommend it.

After waiting patiently to see what would happen with Route 58 Deli, my husband surprised me and brought me here for breakfast after 7 am Mass on Sunday. My husband told me that the son of Rt 58 Deli runs this business and kept some menu items from that restaurant. The owner said he plans to expand to dinner hours and a full breakfast menu. I'm excited. We ordered latkes, which were so yummy and nostalgic. My husband ordered a toasted ball with roast beef, and I had the BBd on Broadway with sausage. It comes with egg, cheese and a Hashbrown on a bagel. So yummy. Can't wait to come back.

I'd probably go 3.5 stars but I'm rounding up bc they just opened and they're doing stellar. Our server was Sydney who was a total sweetheart. Greeted us quickly, easily able to answer menu questions, checked on us often... etc. My husband is Jewish and fairly picky about delis. He's also sad there is no true Jewish deli in the area. This spot (along with the one here before) comes close.I had just eaten so I shared what he chose and he went with the combo sandwich with the slaw and dressing on the side. It was a generous portion of both pastrami and corned beef. Slaw and dressing was amazing and the pickles were good too. Menu has a few good salads and a chicken salad sandwich that looked really good that I'd like to try next time. We spoke to a few people both when checking in and leaving and all the staff were exceptionally friendly and personable. Very welcome in this time when it seems like waitstaff hate you and their jobs at a lot of places. Everyone here was kind and friendly. Happy to see this spot opened here and very friendly people inside. We will certainly be back - it was a solid visit and I am excited to try the chicken salad, Sydney said it's the best!

Amazing!! I was met by a smile and left with delicious food. Two corned beef deli sandwiches with cole slaw and 1000 island dressing and a side of latkes. In Philly we call these corned beef specials. The sandwiches were packed and full of flavor and MEAT! Just the way a deli should. I have been looking for a deli like back home and this is it! Everything was seasoned and presented well. The service a 10!! I will be back for breakfast or a brunch as I love matzo ball soup. Thank your for making my lunch special today! Signed a Philly Girl

Sadly, Route 58 was forced to closed unexpectedly when its owner suddenly passed away in April 2022. For over 2 years, the Hampton Roads area went without a premiere deli with its delicious offerings and huge portions. Bagel Baker stepped up to fill Route 58's enormous shoes. Although no one who's ever dined at Route 58 will ever forget Jeff Goldberg's amazing spot, the Bagel Baker Delicatessen is excellent enough to help maintain that deli craving. I stopped by on Friday, 8/16/24, as I read posts stating they were open for business. I was seated immediately and checked out their menu. BBD overhauled the entire interior. The kitchen is no longer "open" as a wall has been erected to separate it from the dining area. All the walls are now white, while the stickers & other nicknacks (of other delis) are all gone. There is a huge black & white mural adorning the wall on the left side (as you enter), while a huge mirror is located on the opposite wall (with BBD's logo on it). On the back wall sits a flatscreen television, which appeared to be playing beautiful images of Greece. BBD's menu appears smaller than Route 58's, but there was still plenty to choose from. From what I could tell, a decent amount of Route 58's items carried over to BBD's menu, which is an awesome homage. I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into some pastrami, or corned beef, or both, while enjoying some crinkle-cut fries and a soda. The only issue was that I didn't receive a table greet. I noticed 2 servers helping other customers, but neither of them greeted me as they walked past - multiple times. They looked busy, so I didn't sweat it much, but then a slew of customers arrived, & soon the dining room was full. That's when I noticed those customers receiving table greets, and even drinks, before me. I had to flag down the hostess as she sat a party behind me to ask, "Excuse me, but is a server actually assigned to this section?" The hostess replied, "No one's helped you?" "No," I replied. She told me she'd get someone right away, and a person who appeared to be the shift manager came over to take my order. By that time, it had been 10-15 minutes since I was originally sat, and I contemplated leaving. After that, Lori M. came over to help me the rest of the way. She was polite, acknowledged the gaffe, and asked me if I was having a good day. I replied I was doing fine, and things shifted to normal. A few minutes later, my drink & my Bowl of Fries arrived. I was told my Hot Pastrami + Corned Beef sandwich was coming right up, but wouldn't you know it, a different manager arrived to tell me that they overlooked my order and they simply didn't make the sandwich. I wasn't happy at all, especially combined with being ignored for so long, but I smiled and said, "Okay." The sandwich arrived about 4 minutes later, and I went about eating my lunch (I had already finished my bowl of fries when the sandwich arrived). The sandwich was good - the taste of both the pastrami and corned beef immediately reminded me of Route 58. And in case you're wondering about the portion size, BBD offers two sizes for their sandwiches - Regular & Super. I opted for the Regular - even that was too much food for me. By the end of my meal, Lori M. and I chatted a little. She told me that they're obviously still trying to get situated (they opened on Monday, 8/12), and she comped my drink order (unprompted). Despite a rough start, the entire experience was good. I returned the next day - mom wanted to hang out for lunch & I suggested BBD because she, too, loved Route 58. Mom is more critical than I am, so if she came away upset, then I knew I may have to avoid BBD for a bit, maybe altogether. When we arrived on 8/17/24 for lunch, we were seated immediately - Lori recognized & greeted me. "You made it back," she exclaimed, to which I replied, "I wanted my mom to check y'all out!" Lori smiled & nodded & she went off to handle her customers at another section. Sydney B. helped us during this visit & her initial table greet was within 3 minutes. Sydney was a total sweetheart - her service confirmed that my Friday visit was a fluke and that BBD was definitely still working out the kinks. Sydney was on top of things, offered up suggestions, and provided light and fun conversation. Both she & Lori are fantastic, & I was glad I remained patient during my first visit. During this visit, mom went with the Super Reuben, which included corned beef, pastrami, sauerkraut, Swiss, and homemade Russian dressing on rye. I went with 2 All Beef Sabrett Hot Dogs with chili & onions. We split an order of Disco Fries. Mom even ordered dessert (blueberry cheesecake). George, one of BBD's owners, came by & chatted with us after we ate. He was kind & thanked me for coming back after I told him about my first visit. Combining both visits, Bagel Baker Deli is fantastic. I can't wait to return. Thank you, Bagel Baker Deli! JV

We have been waiting for this place to open for a while now. Bagel Bakers is one of our favorite breakfast spots and hoped the delicatessen lived up to our expectations. They have renovated the inside from the previous deli. Where the old restaurant was dark, the new Bagel Baker Delicatessen is bright, letting in all the natural sunlight. We ordered the Deli Dogs (and opted for the sauerkraut and Swiss cheese for $3 more) and a Rueben sandwich. Both meals tasted great. We were surprised they did not come with sides. At $21 each, we thought maybe we would have fries on the side or chips, but no, fries would be extra. Currently they are serving lunch and dinner. We were told breakfast at this location will come later. We will continue going to the other location for breakfast. In addition, be aware that like a few other restaurants these days, cash price is on the menu and paying by card will get you a 3.5% charge added to your bill.

I have been looking for a good Jewish Deli in VB for awhile and was so happy to come across The Bagel Bakery Delicatessen! When we walked in we were greeted by the host and one of the servers who were both very sweet and welcoming. We were eating a little bit before noon so there were a lot of tables available. On the walls are large black and white images that gave the restaurant the vibe of visiting the past which was cool. We were seated at a large booth that was nice and cozy. I got a Dr. Browns Black Cherry soda which was great and one of my favorite soda flavors. As an appetizer we got the latkes that came with sour cream and apple sauce - which I love smearing a little bit of both on top of the potato pancake. For my meal I got the sandwich combo which was a half sandwich (I got a BLT) and the matzo ball soup. I think my only criticism is that the soup broth could use a little more seasoning but everything was really tasty and I know I'll be back.
