Azzurri Italian is the nearest restaurant to my sister's home in Newport News, and she is lucky to have such a good kitchen close at hand. The dining room is a busy place between takeout and folks dining in the mural walled space. Very comfortable even when sitting across from the kitchen door as we did. The menu has almost all the traditional Roman dishes with veal, chicken or fish bases and a strong hand in pasta. The three of us ordered Mediterraneano Salmone, Penne Vodka and Chicken Francese - all coming with side salad and their large sized Garlic Knots. We also asked for Calamari Fritti for the table. First impressions were positive, if not exceptional. The Calamari was the weakest link, as it was not freshly cut in house, but seemed to be frozen and then deep fried. All large rings, no tentacles. Red dipping sauce was fine. The Salmon was very tender and a nice sized steak. The strong suit was the Penne in a pink gravy somewhat sweeter than vodka and a perfect accompaniment to the fish. (I just ate the leftovers for breakfast, and it still tasted great after a short visit to the microwave.) My Chicken Francese arrived with one split breast and Linguini Aglio Olio (special request). Its white wine lemony pan fried finish was tender and delicious. I had also asked for penne, but no complaint on the substitute long strands; they did provide a spoon for windup. Finally, my son devoured the Penne Vodka without offering a taste, which means he wanted it all for himself. A good sign. The Garlic Knots are comped and a large plateful. Quite nice and easily addictive. Service was friendly, attractive and willing to ask questions to be sure she understood the orders. I appreciate her taking the time to get it right. Pro Tip - There were a lot of pizzas going out the door. Given how good everything was, we might do the same next time in town just to check them out.

Azzurri Italian Restaurant is a good local eatery. They have a variety of Italian dishes, including pizza options. Their plated dishes are good with fresh ingredients, but the plating seems off and watery. This includes their lasagna plate. It's good but watery. This seemed true across all the plates we had at our table. Their pizza is good. It's doughy with thick crust and lacks quantity of toppings, even though the toppings seem fresh. Ambiance is ok. Italian feel, but is a bit bland in my opinion. Service is exceptional and the prices are very reasonable. I recommend Azzurri as a restaurant to check out. I think there are a couple of other Italian restaurants in the area that's better. Azzurri is still a place to go when you're on that side town; I wouldn't make a trip for it though.

Wow. The service and attention to detail are great here. The place was packed upon arrival, but not just for sitdown, but a fast-paced takeaway business that reflects on the quality of the food. It felt like a family success, with a decor that transported me out of the strip mall into an exotic far off locale. Started the food journey by loving the garlic knots which didn't slather on garlic, but instead subtly complimented the taste of the dough and the butter. My Fettuccine Alfredo was similar quality, top notch, and even the salad was great. The lobster and seafood noodle dish that my stepdad had was also amazing. The staff were highly attentive, patient, and out of this world. Definitely worth a visit again.

Just love this restaurant, family owned and run. Food is authentic and delicious and always hot & freshly made to order. Lunch menu is outstanding for price and options served with fantastic garlic knots. Simple but good choice wine list from reds to whites and 2 different Chianti's to choose from. Service is always great and with a smile. When I return to Newport News VA on business I always make a stop here. This trip maybe I'll return a few more times... fantastic pizzas as well. Can't go wrong with anything you order.

Nice Italian Restaurant in a small shopping center. Service was good, no Coke Products though so I had half sweet and half unsweetened iced tea, the tea was not great for a southern state. Food was very good although I was surprised at how small the clams in my dish were. I was expecting decent size fresh clams since we are so close to the ocean here. One thing that wasn't so good is the dinner rolls, no flavor and tough to chew. We had an appetizer, fried zucchini that was great, 2 seafood entrees and tiramisu to end our dinner, the tiramisu was great too.

Italian food is excellent and authentic.Service was attentive Ambiance was homey . You would not know you were in a strip mall.Ample parking.Highly recommend.

Azzurri's is simply the best. It's our go-to pizza place and everything on the menu is delicious. They constantly put up with my rambunctious children, the food is always fantastic, service is always super fast and friendly. I honestly can't say enough good things about this restaurant. They made several internal renovations during the Covid shutdown, and have a lovely outdoor patio seating area as well. And unlike many restaurants around here, prices haven't skyrocketed beyond belief. Tonight we got our regular cheese pizza, garlic knots, and pasta orders - kids ate everything and have been over the moon.A++++++ update for my first review of 2023!

Quaint restaurant with great authentic Italian cuisine. A definite hidden gem! Fast and attentive service. Pastas and sauces were spot on, but the show-stealer was the cannoli!

This is for a delivery order. Let me take you though the good and what could use improvement!THE GOOD:1) PIZZA - it was quite large for a "small" pizza, plentiful toppings (pepperoni and sausage), nice NY Style crust. This is one of the better pizzas in the area.2) FRENCH FRIES - DELICIOUS. 10/10...seems hand cut and cooked perfectly. I could make a meal out of the French fries alone! Also provided ketchup packets without having to ask. 3). FRESH BREAD FOR THE TURKEY SUB - outstanding - really elevated the sub in its taste.4) LIMONCELLO CAKE - very good, I'm glad I listened to another Yelp reviewer and tried this!NEEDS SOME IMPROVEMENT1) They forgot to add the Italian Dressing on the side which I had requested. It would have helped to add more flavor to the sub.2) The limoncello cake slice, although very delicious, was small considering it was $6.99/slice. I would have expected it to be a little larger. 3) The turkey was packaged deli turkey...it was okay, but think next time will try one of their hot subs (chicken or sausage parm sounds good).Overall though, I would definitely return and look forward to trying some of their other dishes. I will make sure to get some French fries as a side, and will order the pizza again when craving a good slice!
