Being in the area for another appointment I took advantage of the opportunity to visit this Asian Market in search of the best source and pricing for my breakfast staple Korean Pears. The market, which is located in London Bridge Shopping Center which occupies the northwest corner of the intersection of Great Neck Road and Virginia Beach Boulevard, has been in this location for quite some time. It had been decades since my last visit, long before my need to never run out of Korean Pears. So I didn't know what to expect.Walking into the store the first thing I saw was a display of Asian Pears. On closer inspection I was disappointed in what I found. The 3 packs labeled Shingo Pears, although nice & large, were much higher priced than what I have paid at similar stores. Underneath the Shingo's was a slightly lower priced pear with different labeling. I chose 2 three packs of those since I was almost out. I'm hoping their taste is as good as my previous choices. After finding the pears I looked for their bakery section. I didn't find that or even a baked goods section. My quest was to find items made from or including Ube. All I found was a package of small Japanese Ube sponge cakes.Navigating the entire store in my search I found the organization of products to be disjointed & poorly organized. There were no labeled sections. The store itself did not give me a clean feeling or have a welcome & inviting appearance. It appeared to not have been changed or upgraded in decades. The very worst was the checkout service. I had taken a reusable bag. My checkout clerk put the sponge cakes in first then put the two packs of Asian Pears on top of the cakes. I quickly grabbed the bag & rearranged so the heavier items were on the bottom. I explained to her what I was doing. She was nice but obviously had a complete lack of understanding of proper grocery bagging. This will certainly have been my last visit to the store.

If you like to cook authentic cuisine and making an Asian meal than this is the place to go and less expensive than the grocery stores. Be prepared to spend some time because it can be hard to find items and it's difficult to communicate. Everything from fresh produce, frozen dumplings, kimchee, noodles, rice, seasonings, sauces, etc etc etc. You need it and they will have it. Just remember you are not in a Kroger or Wegmans.....most of them don't speak English and it's not set up like a grocery store you are used to but I love looking at everything they have. I recently cooked a dinner of a Spicy Asian Accordian Cucumber, Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Salad with an Asian dressing and a Won Ton Soup. I got most of my ingredients are this store. Now if someone could just teach me how to roll the rolls tighter. :)

This place gives me mixed feelings all the time. On one hand, there are certain Asian products you can only find them here. On the other hand, the cashier has 0 service and their produce and seafood sections are not the best and you really have to take your time to check the quality before paying.I know they've changed owners so it seems like they are bringing more variety of Asian groceries especially Chinese groceries that are hard to get around this area. On my last review I said they would sell expired food but this issue never happened anymore, but the quality of their seafood section is still questionable. For example they sell those big oysters in tubs that are not sold in regular grocery stores, but couple times the oysters didn't taste fresh. That doesn't happen every single time but it's kinda annoying like I have to gamble my money with their seafood's freshness. Same issue with other seafood like clams and lobsters. The lady cashier is also too occupied with her phone when checking people out. Don't bother looking for a greeting or eye contact, she looks annoyed when she had to ring customers up because she is always on her phone. Trust me, I was a cashier once and I checked my phone all the time, but she is not replying a text or just check it for a second, I am talking about her watching a whole tv show or tiktok (I know cuz the shows would be in Chinese and I am Chinese), but refused to pause it just to ring customers up.I wish there is an alternative other than coming to this store mostly because of the cashier (Cuz seems like she's always the only cashier and it's hard to avoid her), and secondly it's the inconsistent quality of their seafood section.

I love this market! It has quite possibly everything you're looking for in an Asian market. They have a wide range of fruits, vegetables, at least a hundred different varieties of ramen, soda, juice, etc. This store does carry soup dumplings in the frozen section! They also carry tea/dish sets, steamers, spices, wine, sake, candy, fresh raw fish, shellfish, and meats.

I absolutely love going to the this Food Market whenever I get a chance! As soon as you walk in, you smell the fresh seafood and other fresh items in the store but over time, you get used to the smell. I specifically go for the vast array of mushrooms and seasonings that you can't find anywhere else. I love enoki mushrooms and oyster mushrooms and they always have them in stock. As I was browsing the aisles, I couldn't find a specific item. The associate pointed me in the direction; however, I still couldn't find it so she walked me right to where it was, which I though was nice. The store is pretty cold due to all the fresh seafood so keep that in mind but overall, if you are looking for fresh produce and unique seasonings, sauces and spices, definitely stop by the this local market.

I had no idea there was another Asian market in VA Beach! It's been around for more than 30 years and it's owned by Chinese people and offers a large variety of East Asian groceries and goods. The store itself is only about half the size of Grand Mart, and not as well organized. There's several aisles of popular Asian snacks, dried foods, veggies and fruits available. There's a small seafood section that sells fresh fish, prawns, fresh live eel, etc. Prices are appropriate for the area. One of my gripes is the overall cleanliness of the place. The aisles and floors can definitely do with a good cleaning and wipe down. There is the smell of fish in the air, which may bother some people, but having grown up with the Chinese supermarkets in NYC, I'm used to it. Overall, this was a surprise find and although it's rather deep in VA Beach, I now have another option for grocery shopping other than Grand Mart!

It is a big store. Huge variety. I love coming here. They will probably have what you need. I'm very adventurous when it comes to food. So this place is great. Wonderful variety of dry goods. I especially like all the different noodles.Great snack variety Huge selection of drinks. Canned and bottled.Really nice fresh unusual produce.Big selection of seafood. It does have a fishy smell in the store. That is probably the only draw back. And they have a whole isle of odds and ends. Ya know dishes, pots, pans, and house hold items. For my 11 year old nieces birthday we gave her 25 dollars and said she could buy anything. Gave her a cart and away she went. She said it was her best birthday present ever. She spent and hour and a half shopping. Went up and down every isle and some twice. We recommend a visit. It is great

I come here only because i have to. To forewarn you, if you have ever gone to Chinatown in New York.. u will know the smell from a mile away. If you are Chinese or have a Chinese foreign exchange student living in your house like me.. then this is the place for you. Honestly, I hate the smell. They have a seafood market inside/ butcher shop... so expect the smell of rotten carcasses in there. But I endure the smell.. and if the smell doesn't bother you, you can get everything necessary for your Asian cooking. I come here because my Chinese exchange student is from cheng du province in China and she needs her home cooked meals. They offer items that are rare to find at other Asian international markets.. particularly because majority of items here are from china. My Chinese student had to get some items shipped to our home from china.. but luckily we found out they had a lot of her favorites here. She is one who loves spicy, hot pots and mouth numbing food. So out of all the markets they in our area most Szechuan cooking ingredients are here. Hot pot sauce, spicy Chinese chili peppers, sauces..I mainly love the snacks here.. the pocky sticks and sweet tooth Asian snacks are my usual here. I don't recommend getting the vegetables here because although cheap. I feel I good get better quality elsewhere. But if necessary, they have a wide selection of the exotic fruits and veggies you can't find at your neighborhood grocer like farm fresh or food lion. It's worth a visit if you have an adventurous palette. I was surprised when I cooked her noodles and came to find out the seasoning was from snails. Well it didn't bother me because I ate it already not knowing this, since the package was all written in Chinese. The store here had the same package but in English words it read "snails." My eyes were shocked but then again It was the risk I took not knowing the Chinese writings on the package. If you like roast duck and charsui pork they have them hanging in the window of the little Chinese booth of food take out. Some may cringe at seeing the duck head and rare meat selections, like beef stomach and duck embryo egg(balut) but who knows, you might like it. The charsui pork is good here. I do question the cleanliness of the store and the hygiene. But I mainly stick to the pantry items. They do offer some Filipino cooking ingredients, even Indonesian and Cambodian food selections.. and some cooking pots and steamers, utensils...You can't go wrong on trying the Mochi ice cream in the freezer section and bringing home some Chinese dumplings.

I get so excited when I pull up and walk into the clear plastic door curtain. Love the oriental music. Love the market vibe with live food and packed stands. I've seen it all here: restaurant brand condiments, local snacks I used to have over a decade ago when I lived in Japan and deployed to Philippines often. And it always remind me that my cooking skills do not match the expectations of my tastebuds lol. There's so many ingredients to Asian dishes and this is the place to replicate the recipes you witness in restaurants or on TikTok & InstagramPrepare to be cultured here.
