Boston, the "Greeter," says "Welcome!"
A lovely breakfast for two: fresh fruit salad, sausage, frittata & blueberry pancakes.

This place would probably be ok for a quick family visit, however the Patton room isn't good for anything. We booked for the Patton room for two nights, but didn't make it one. The blinds on the windows do not cover the windows completely, so you can see into the front yard, and the entire front yard can see you in there too. Zero privacy. The door to the room, which is also right next to the front door of the house, has a pretty large gap under it. Anything you do or say will be heard out in the hall. In the room, with all the lights off you could nearly read a book. Light came in from two lamps in the window, the front door and a large street light out on the road. This room is bright at night! The bathroom had a 1 person jetted tub, but it had broken tile around the filling spout where you could see down behind the tub. The fill nozzle wasn't attached to anything and moved freely around. Also, there was no aerator on the nozzle, which caused water to spray everywhere. I had to put my hand behind it to ensure that there was no water going down in the wall and causing damage. My biggest concern was causing damage and being charged for it. Right behind the tub is a door that leads directly into the owner's office. Somewhat creepy.

We had a great stay here. Very comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast both days. Quiet neighborhood, plenty of parking. Very close to Williamsburg, though not walking distance unless nice weather. Great deal for the money and we would certainly stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay at Aldrich House immensely. Our room was well appointed and perfectly kept. The food was delicious! We enjoyed our days of sightseeing at Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown Settlement, then returning to relax by the fire before heading out for dinner at restaurants nearby. We were traveling with 3 children, ages 12, 11, and 9.5, and the Anderson Room was exactly what we needed for our family. The grandparents stayed in a room on the ground floor. Everyone was happy - and that says a lot when traveling across the country with 3 generations!

What an awesome place! My wife and I came here just before we got married to relax before the big day. It was a great place to relax, unwind and have a great time! Breakfast was amazing each morning! Tom's pancakes and French toast were superb! There was fresh fruit, eggs, juice, coffee and either ham bacon or sausage each morning to go with the pancakes on the first day and French toast on the second day. I have never had pancakes so fluffy and flavorful before. they were only surpassed by his French toast on our next morning. My wife and I are already planning our return here and have and will continue to recommend the Aldrich House to our family and friends. It was about a 10 minute walk to historic Williamsburg where my wife and I spent the day at, but that is another review.

Two blocks is an interesting definition of how far this property is from Colonial Williamsburg. If you define "blocks" as "distance between intersections" - well, yeah, there weren't any lights on that small overpass/road bridge thing. And if you define "Colonial Williamsburg" as "those historic houses that aren't actually open to the public" - well, yeah, those were pretty close to the overpass. But if you're a visitor without access to a car who's looking for a place to stay that's within safe walking distance of the colonial district, I really would not recommend this place. Aside from two of the taverns (pretty expensive for dinner), the closest places to grab an evening meal were about a 30 minute walk away (obviously varies depending on whether you're eating Colonial or at the more contemporary spots). Many of the most interesting buildings open for tours are also at the opposite end of the historic area, so going back and forth to the Inn without a car is a bit cumbersome, especially during the rain when we visited. If you've got a car to get there, I imagine walking during the daytime would be fine once or twice, but it didn't feel as though it would be safe after dark - no crosswalks/traffic lights/stop signs were in place on one of the roads we had to cross to get into the neighborhood, and I would expect visibility at night to be poor in that spot (you've kind of got to be there to understand, just visualize the nearest small state road that you'd hate to have to dart across at night on foot and you'll have the right mental image going). Also worth noting: this property is located in a neighborhood that feels rather old and dated - almost like wandering into my parents' house, and not in a good way. Bed was very creaky and wobbly, even with just me in it, and the room felt very small and cramped. I can't speak to the breakfast quality, as we didn't stay - the property was just completely unsuitable for two people on foot. When my husband complained about the distance issue to the owner, the response was that we should have gone through their backyard - apparently this provides access to a slightly less threatening small road bridge that gets you access to the same privately-owned, not open to the public buildings. How we would have known this when no one was there to meet us is beyond me - do guests regularly traipse through this B&B's yard in search of better access to Williamsburg? I mean, I understand the desperate feeling to find a safe way off the property to get some food, but it never would have occurred to me to check their backyard.Bottom line: cars only, seriously. It's relatively far from Amtrak, the walk's not safe - just not the sort of place you want to stay at when you're going car-free.

Best vacation and or work place to stay. Close to many area restaurants and walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg. I am a runner so my favorite thing is to run to William and Mary and back. Great run with lots of sights to see. Sue and Tom are awesome host and Tom is a historian and can help you with traveling and learning anything you need to know about the area. We never stay anywhere else
