The dinner menu is gourmet, very ambitious. The roasted duck in orange sauce was tender. A broiled crab cake that arrived atop my main course ceasar salad was tasty and well executed. Unfortunately, the salad wasn't prepared with crisp romaine lettuce and there was way too much shaved parmesan cheese which overwhelmed. A slice of key lime pie was thick and screamingly tart. When the restaurant fills up, conversation is affected due to a noticeable din in the dining room. The view of the creek is pleasant.I asked if there was an AJ, and was told that he's the cat out front. Sure enough, when I went to look for him, he was there -- hanging out in the parking lot and scampering about the garden areas. AJ is quite the feline maitre d', in his black fur coat and hypnotic eyes.

My husband and I had lunch here while in the area. I was a little dubious because the rating was only 3.5, but I realized that it was probably adversely affected by people who had a particular problem. Well deserving of better than 3.5!! We dined on the screened patio next to the creek on a beautiful, peaceful afternoon. A Great Egret graced us with its presence, and it cinched the serenity. Sarah, our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and very sweet!I ordered a WildBerry Crush which was 1/3 filled with fruit and berries. So many it was nearly impossible to use the straw!! Absolutely delicious and refreshing cocktail. Very highly recommend. (I shouldn't say this, but when I was done I asked for a spoon to dig out the goodies)For lunch I had crab soup and a wedge salad. I frequent Charleston, SC and I've eaten my fair share of crab soup. Hands-down.. this was the best I ever had! It was full of fresh crab pieces, and they didn't skimp on the sherry, either. That's muy importante! The wedge was good. Lettuce was fresh, but it came with roasted tomatoes. I think I would have enjoyed fresh ones more, and Sarah says next time I only need to ask!! My hubs ordered his ushe... fried shrimp. He said was good. The lunch portion was 3 large friend shrimp with fries and cole slaw.Overall I would definitely come back to this restaurant again if I were in the area! Don't miss the screened deck by the creek!

We'd made a reservation and arrived early and were immediately greeted by staff in the lounge. In a dreary day this was the warmest of welcomes! As we received our drinks and chatted with the staff we realized there was a glitch with Open Table and our reservation never went through. No worries! The staff rose to the occasion and exceeded our every expectation! We were seated at the perfect table and Angela, who is truly an Angel, did a phenomenal job assisting us to have the most amazing dinner experience. THE BEST EVER on the island! Starters were Cream of Crab Soup...addicting and I've wanted it again every day since we left! The Mezze Platter was equally delicious, especially the Falafel and the Muhimarra! Our entrees were The Crabcakes and Seafood Imperial were so on point!!! When you visit Chincoteague you must experience AJ's! This is a hardworking group that are dedicated to bringing you an amazing dining experience! We can't wait to return!

AJs is probably the best restaurant on the island for dinner! We have come here as a family several times over the years, and this time especially was great food and great service. Our server was lovely; she was so kind and made the experience great. We split a delicious Merlot between several of us. I ordered the filet mignon which came with mashed potatoes and the vegetable of the day. It was delicious! They had several pasta dishes that looked amazing too. Everyone in our group of 9 really enjoyed their food. The space has a patio and a food amount of indoor seating, and the space isn't too loud to where you can hold a good conversation with a large group. The seafood is good quality and it's a great spot for a memorable dinner!

Nobody visiting Chincoteague Island can miss the sign for AJ's on the Creek. It's located on Maddox Blvd, the busy main road to Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.Everything looked refreshing with recent renovation by the new owner, including the new menu. Interior portico with soft lighting added a romantic atmosphere. Prices were pretty reasonable considering inflation and the touristy destination. Food was creative and great. We ordered:5*QUICHE OF THE DAY- Served with a small garden salad: warm, fresh and tasty. Very good.4.5*COCONUT SHRIMP-Panko encrusted jumbo white shrimp, orange-mango chutney, and green onion. Shrimp were large and well cooked, served with orange-mango chutney. The chutney sauce was a nice addition, and it complimented the shrimps.5*TWIN CRISPY FRIED SOFT-SHELL CRABS-Stacked with crispy leeks, oven-roasted tomatoes, and remoulade: the crabs were rather small but well cooked, soft and crispy. A creative move: crispy leeks added dimension to the texture and the taste. 4*OYSTER ROCKEFELLER-Oven roasted local oysters. spinach, bacon, parmesan: warm, soft and good.3*CLAMS CASINO-Roasted Middleneck clams, roasted peppers, garlic, bacon, shallots: it tasted like Mexican or South American. 3*JUMBO CHICKEN WINGSFried, "Blanch" dressing, celery. hot buffalo. There were four different sauces available: Thai sweet chili, Old Bay rub, garlic-parmesan, or BBO. We ordered Thai sweet chili. It was mediocre. It needs a better sauce and deeper frying to get better flavor.

Originally went here for Mother's Day. Brunch and realized that although it was a special holiday they were serving their regular lunch menu which included no sides except for fries or chips. I would have e thought for a special occasion they would have made their dinner menu available earlier during the day or have had a special Mother's Day menu like many other restaurants. On my special day I just couldn't imagine settling for fries at a fine dining experience or so they claim to be.

I so wanted to give them more stars but it was just okay for us. Having said that we were there for breakfast on a Sunday. I am not from Chincoteague so maybe they just started serving breakfast or maybe it's just they do a better job at dinner. The restaurant is very nice and so is the staff. We were greeted immediately by AJ.....the cat. :) Very friendly outdoor cat. The hostess also greeted us immediately and was very nice. She sat us at a table with a view. It wasn't very busy but the service was very very slow. Our waitress was Holly and very friendly but service was slow. I am not sure if it was the large party that threw everyone off or maybe someone didn't show up but it was slow. Slow to come to the table, food coming out was slow and so was getting our checks. I ordered the special - a crab quiche and my friend got the shrimp and grits and the other friend got just the 2 egg breakfast with tots. My quiche came with a salad - everything was good. Not outstanding but good. My friend didn't care for the shrimp and grits - it had no "sauce" or "gravy" and was kind of dry. I think I might try again but maybe for dinner. It's cute on the inside with some nice views, nicely decorated and some private romantic tables.

Was accused of fraud. Waitress asked for id of my gf and I. Had to "take it in the back because she needed glasses " came back and said they wouldn't accept our ids as they were from the same state but looked different. CO changed their drivers license in 2021 it's an easy Google to see the updated pics. Poor bedside manner. Poorly handled, rude service.

We eat here at least once every trip to Chincoteague. Great location and atmosphere (nicely updated and decorated) with excellent food. I had one of the best bloody Marys I've ever had here! If you're here for breakfast/brunch, get the mushroom omelette if they have it - also the best! Be sure to make reservations for dinner. Tonight (9/13/24) I had the duck breast and hubby had the lamb chops special. Both were cooked to perfection and the house made sauces were spectacular! Next time we are here, I will start with an oyster shooter!

The service was good and the food was pretty good. My comment would be that $42 is a big price for 2 very small lamb chops with fries, carrots and green beans. I don't expect something huge, but I doubt there was 4oz of meat between the 2 chops
