Each and every green was immaculate but each and every freakin bunker had its forest/jungle. Wouldn't kill them to pick up the grass cuts, they looked like sting of all over the course.

Best breakfast! I come here all the time for breakfast. It's super cheap and taste as good as if you made it at home. They are open 7 days a week. They also serve lunch which is also good but I def prefer the breakfast. I'm not one to be roaming around on base on a weekend but I won't ever hesitate to come here for breakfast any day of the week.

4 stars for the Hornet course. 2 stars for the Tomcat course.Bring lots of bug spray. Mosquitos will crush the crap out of you out there. Both courses are challenging enough. The Tomcat has tight fairways and small greens. The Hornet course has more character and plays a bit longer. They just installed new greens. Give them another year or so and the greens will be good to go!The star of this place is the clubhouse. Food is cheap. The pro shop has a very strong selection of clubs, bags and shoes. It's a military course so if you're not in the military be sure to play with someone who is. Park at the commissary and ride in with your military buddy!

Played Hornet yesterday and had a good time. As with many courses in the area, some of the greens are showing dead spots. I've played both courses multiple times, so have seen them with better looking greens. That is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. As a military course, I think it's the best of the 6 in the Hampton Roads area. $20 to walk on a weekend can't be beat by any other courses around here. Lots of mosquitos, so bring bug spray.

Just finished the Hornet Course at Aeropines. From top to bottom, the course conditions were horrendous. The tee boxes were in bad shape (some very soft, others extremely hard, not a lot of grass). The fairways were below average (barely green) but at least they were trimmed. The greens were absolutely the worst. They were the antithesis of smooth. In most places they were black and torn terribly. The ball could not roll in any reliable direction. The course needs some considerable maintenance and care. The only benefit was the cost. However, this was the poorest golf course I have played on any military installation.

Two separate 18 hole courses makes this place unique for a military base. Couple in the price for golf, the beer and drink cart and the range, and it's a great place to play. Now I'm not the best golfer so take the course review with a grain of salt. I find the Tomcat requires a little more short game skill and the Hornet is built for long fairly straight drives but I enjoy them both. Ok that's the good, time for the bad. 1. The courses are laid out so only the Tomcat returns you to the clubhouse at the 9th hole. Normally not a big deal but it can make it hard for those rushing to get in 9 holes at the end of day. 2. Although the clubhouse is good sized it could use an update. 3. Despite good food prices the cost of a 6-pack of beer to take out on the course will run you $20.00 (or there about). 4. Time to remove the old broken bridges. Overall I really enjoy playing here and will keep coming back making it A-OK with me, 3-Stars.

I played Aeropines for the first time this afternoon. I was a little intimidated having never played by myself on a course before, but I had nothing to worry about. The gentleman behind the counter (didnt catch his name) was very helpful in getting me set up with everything that I needed to play 9 holes. I payed $30 for everything; 9 holes, clubs, balls, and a cart. Seemed like their prices were lower than others that i have heard of. The clubhouse/proshop seemed kind of small to me, but I wouldnt know, this being my first course. I played the Tomcat course, because the guy at the desk said it was the better maintained green. I will say that the 9 holes that i played were absolutly beautiful, I saw no dead grass, and everything was well trimmed and maintained. I did feel though that the greens tended to be rather firm, but thats fine. Overall a great way to spend an afternoon, i will be returning tomorrow for sure!

Played here a few days ago on the hornet and it is in absolutely horrible shape overall. The greens are scorched, the fairways are hard as a rock and the tee boxes are destroyed. This course needs a TON of help and myself and my buddy vowed to never play it again because of the condition.

Aeropines - Tomcat Course. This is the original course at NAS Oceana. Let's start with the positive. The greens were superb! Wish my home course had greens as nice as this, they rolled pure. This course use to be a very nice course, but obviously outside the greens, the maintenance has been virtually non-existent which was very disappointing. MWR has let everyone down turning a once nice course into a practice facility at best that charges top price that would be associated with a wonderful facility. All bunkers have been decidedly allowed to fallow. If you are not going to maintain the bunkers seed them, allow them to grow and fill-in and treat them as rough, but don't just allow them to garner weeds. Waste areas they aren't. The rough is not graduated in anyway, you go from the fairway to 2" bermuda rough making it overly difficult to locate your ball as they obviously sink to the bottom. You can walk by it multiple times and you may find it. The bridge to the right of the 3rd green has been in disrepair for so long that the barricades have even fallen over. The "junk" between the tee box and the fairway on 18 was so high that you couldn't see the sight lines, talk about a blind tee shot! It pains me to say this because this was a to be a nostalgic round from years gone by, but...if you want to play a military course while in the VA Beach area, go to Little Creek NAB or Sewell's Point. I miss the old Aeropines.

Today I went to the tomcat course which is one of the two courses on base. Before I tel you about the quality of the course, keep in mind that it's 12$ for 9 holes and 24$ for 18. The tomcat course was very fun to play and had a large play area but the bunkers were in an unacceptable condition, I ended up hitting into one of the bunkers in the fairway, but it did nothing to prohibit how well I could hit the ball because of the amount of grass. Other than the bunkers, my only other complaint would be that the greens weren't in great condition. Overall, this course is extremely forgiving and fun to play. If you don't mind grass filled bunkers, this is probably the course for you.
