I was just following my GPS on a ride to the Outer Banks when I saw a few signs for this business and the selling of peanuts. When we got there I figured I'd show the kids what a country store is. It was a bit of a throwback in time feel but I am so glad we stopped. I ended up getting a six pack of pony beers, a jar of blackberry preserves and of course some salted peanuts. I had never had blackberry preserves before but my gosh it was delicious. All week for my stay in OBX I made toast with the preserves and loved it. Absolutely a must buy. Then this past weekend I broke out the peanuts for a small get together at my house. I couldn't believe how good they were. I started telling my friends and they all just humored me but then finally tried and we all agreed these were the best peanuts any of the twelve or so of us had ever had. My advice, get the big bag while you are there.

Definitely a true country store. I was surprised to find the prices weren't crazy over inflated.I purchased salted the shell peanuts that were really good, a drink and some candy that was homemade and very good. There is a YouTube video I wish I had seen before I went. We were just driving through and saw the billboards. I spoke with the owner and he was super nice. I hope to visit again.

Let me start out by saying. What a GEM!!! It took me back to my family roots from the Deep South!! Things that I hadn't seen since my childhood days of visiting my family down south. The smell and sight of the store will take you back in time.I would recommend this store to anyone everywhere. Can't miss it on route 460 on left towards VA Beach. And on the right coming from VA Beach. Just look for the big peanut sign. Wonderful owners willing to help you. With a heart felt smiles and conversations. Can't wait for the excuse to travel the 30 mins to enjoy, explore and savor the moments back in time. Big thanks to this wonderful country store.

I wish l lived in this neighborhood just so I could go to Adams on a regular basis. It is truly now one of my favorite places to stop in the entire Commonwealth of Virginia. Why? Read on...First, the hams. Adams' Peanuts carry a great selection of peanuts and other cool stuff, but they carry a good variety of smokehouse items, including the delicious Felts ham and bacon. It's great to walk in and see the hams, bacon, and jowls in their crates in the front of the store...and it smells delicious. Mr. Adams will slice you a half a ham and maybe your ham or jowls into slices for home frying...if not too busy. BUT, the hams are at their very best when you ask for a SANDWICH.That's right sportsfans, you can get that same amazing local "smithfield" (or country) ham on two slices of white bread with mustard or mayo (please don't look for lettuce or brie or whatever you want to add to mess up a perfectly great ham sandwich) for a VERY reasonable rate of exchange. They slice that ham to order, so it is never dry, perfectly salty, and delicious. There are cold beverages in the cooler so get a couple and eat one in the car. Sometimes I also get a bologna sandwich and I think it's less than 3 bucks!! Yellow mustard stains on my chin are a good sign.Again, their peanut selection is pretty good...of course they don't have the ridiculous flavors of the local peanut joints, but I think their chocolate dipped peanuts are the best in the area...and that is saying something. And, they ship. Go stock up on holiday gifts...when you give those peanuts, people will expect them year after year. Look in the case and see if they have some country sausage. I don't want to say disparaging things about this part of the world, but there is another ham and sausage retailer in the vicinity who will charge you nearly 10 dollars a lb for their own brand of smoked country sausage (and it's delicious) but the Adams' carry the local Drake's smoked sausage, made locally in Zuni, Virginia. It is DELICIOUS and again, more reasonably priced. If you don't see it, maybe even ask...Mr. and Mrs. Adams are VERY accommodating. They might even have one of Drake's Dan-Doodles (you will have to ask what that is when you get there!!) Only at Adams can you get this quality, these great local brands, and the amazing value. Finally, take a look around. It's like a slice of the past, a museum, and a treasure hunt all in one peanut and ham encrusted gem. I can buy my sandwiches, ham, bacon, sausage, canned Fish Roe, boiled peanuts, and other southern delicacies right along with a cold Grape Nehi, a cold beer, and the service is simply outstanding. The stories you might here will seal the deal and you WILL be back.

This is definately an Old Country Store. The minute you walk in you smell the Smoked Hams that are lying on a Pallet at the front door, no bags or sacks, just lying on a pallet. The Peanut variety is very limited although their ad says, "First VA. Peanuts". I picked up a can of Gourmet Nuts and a Bag of Adams Rib Rub. The Cashier started telling me about the Rub and it's origin in NC, not part of Adams Nuts. Then he started talking about his Dad which reminded me a lot of my Pop. They sell can goods, milk, bread, beans, and so on. A Typical Old Country Store. Loved it!All kinds of Antiques stuffed on shelves and on the walls. Deer heads and such.

Love the hams. True country style, salty. The store is very interesting. We stop here every year on the way back from the outer banks to get a ham. The guy behind the counter offers good advice on how to cook the ham. Skip the Va Diner and go here for your ham.

This is a great place. A MUST stop if you are in the area. The country ham that I purchased here was the best I have ever had. Ate the ham and then made split pea soup with the hock and the bone. The soup was off the hook good (thanks wifey). Lewis is a very nice man. Took time to talk with me about cooking the ham and local wildlife. A great general store with a variety of items. Don't pass up the ham.

This is a country store with great country ham. You can have it sliced to your own thickness and they make ham biscuits. Always stop by this store on my way home to SC.
