I loved this tiny and adorable Smithfield landmark and got an excellent tour and history lesson from Xavier. If you are going to downtown Smithfiled, you should take a few minutes out of your day and pop in. No regrets.

If you are visiting Smithfield, park down the end of Main Street and walk one end to the other. You will see the following: 3 pigs (one at Art center, one down and alley on the other side of the street and one near the Isle of Wight Museum). You will see two benches that have sculptures, the Museum, the Courthouse and a row of Victorian homes that contain shops or whatnot. Some cute stores (I like the Celtic shop and the Christmas Shop) and on the weekend late Spring to Early Fall there's a nice Farmer's market there too. The Courthouse if free but there's a donation box. The docent there is very pleasant, very informed and allowed us to take photos and go around looking. There is only 4 stars because you can't go downstairs and this is a place where you won't spend more than 15 minutes average. Some will go in take a photo or two (not much to take photos of) and leave while others will suck in all the docent says and ask a lot of questions and be there 20 min. We were in there about 15 min. The Museum across the street has a very small fee (about 2-3 dollars each) and will take 45 minutes I'd say if you take your time. If you are still able to walk, take a right down the other main drag and walk quite a ways up and see the bigger and nicer Victorians. Drive down the same street to Smithfield Station where there is another pig across the street. Down one of the site streets (Mason I think it is) there is another pig at the entrance to Windsor Castle Park. Go far up main street where you first parked and by the Bypass is another Pig. Two more pigs are near Luter Drive and the Little Theatre (both near each other you can walk to both easily a hundred yards maybe apart and also one of the benches is at that Little theatre too. Also by the Bypass pig is the one room schoolhouse for African American kids. This was worth a stop too and was free with a donation box. I had left my purse in the car and didn't have cash so next time we go to Smithfield, I'll go in and leave a few dollars. If you can, leave something so they can keep this going. I think we were the only visitors all day and it was an hour before closing. The docent there was fantastic! She had a lot of information and was very pleasant and was happy to answer any questions.
