"You would expect the Outer Banks to be a lot quieter during the winter time, but Mama Kwan's is constantly busy and is brimming with holiday spirit during the Christmas time! With that in mind, we did have a large party (of 8 people), so we did have to wait around 30-45 minutes for a table, but they'll text you when your table is ready so you can walk around the area and kill some time till then.I got the Coconut Fried Shrimp and the shrimp was fried beautifully in a light coconut batter. My only complaint is that I wish there were more pieces of shrimp because it was so delicious! I also highly recommend the B.O.F.F. (basket of fries) as an appetizer. Honestly, anything that is fried on the menu is guaranteed to be good. I don't know who or what they have in the kitchen, but they are killing it with the fried elements!"

"It was my second time at this restaurant, the first visit we were about 20 people. With a party that big the service was pretty good the food arrived fast the servers were attentive so that was great. The food was pretty good everyone really enjoyed what they had. I agreed to check out a second time with some friends to see how the service would change from a 20 person party to a 3. The server was prompt with the drinks, we offered three different dishes and asked if they could all be split because we were all going to share they did just that the food was really good. The place had a lot natural lighting so if you're looking for dim this is not the place but they do have booth's, I like booths. Overall good experience will be back especially for that Rockefeller chicken sandwich and spicy ranch."

"This was a small spot with outdoor seating. There also was a bar outside, but not sure if it was part of the establishment. The menu was diverse while the service was friendly. The food also came out very fast.For an appetizer, the hushpuppies ($7) were ordered. They came with whipped butter, but it was in the small packages. There were twelve medium sized balls that were fried appropriately and came out extremely hot. They were very tasty. There was a nice batter to filing ratio with plenty of flavor.I had the fish tacos ($15). There were two large tacos with beer battered rockfish, jicama slaw, chili lime mayo, and Pico de Gallo. They were stuffed appropriately with a lot of slaw. I would have preferred the rockfish to be a little bigger, but it was not a big deal as they were good and fried nicely. The mayo was a nice touch with the rest of the filling. I opted for the potato salad as a side, and it was pleasant. I also tried the fried green tomato sandwich that came with basil goat cheese, roasted red pepper, and a balsamic reduction. This was well put together. Every component of the sandwich complimented each other nicely. Will I go back? Yes."

We had an engagement on Thursday evening so we made a reservation to eat before hand.The restaurant was moderately busy and well staffed when we arrived.I had not been to this restaurant before but thought the fresh catch wall was a cool touch and it seemed like a good bar vibe. Our server was attentive and the food was excellent. I enjoyed the steak tacos with asparagus. Good serving size. We ordered the cookie skillet for dessert and it was awesome! Only wish there was more cookie- the cookie was pretty thin and in a smallish skillet."

"Great food for a quick stop as we just in town for a mini vacation. We arrived and were seated immediately, were taken to upper level away from bar since we had the kids. Good menu selections. Our server was great and super nice to offer suggestions as it was our first time visiting. Family ordered fish and chips, shrimp tacos (arrived soggy), mahi special (fish was really small) but tasty, kids pasta and kids fries and tenders (really yummy) and my fish and chips arrived super late when my family was finishing their food.Otherwise good visit"

"This restaurant comes up quite often on Open Table, so I always wondered about this place. Reviews looked decent and pictures of the interior were nice.I finally got the opportunity to dine here when a few friends and I met recently in downtown Norfolk. I wasn't aware this restaurant was inside the Hilton. The host and hostess were attentive and friendly. When the hostess asked if we had a reservation I said no and thought there probably isn't any availability on a Saturday. Luckily we didn't even have to wait for a table. Another host escorted us to a table upstairs. It was great to be away from the noise and any hustle and bustle downstairs as we ladies had a lot to catch up on. The complimentary bread was not warm and served with a side of butter. The butter had a texture like cream cheese and one of my friends said it tasted minty. Unusual butter to spread on a multigrain roll that had a strong rye taste (not a fan of rye). I ordered one of the specials, the flounder with lump crab meat covered in she crab soup. To my dismay the dish was without flavor and only came with 2 slices of focaccia bread (menu said 4). I found the entree bland and overpriced. Don't think I'll be back."

"After six hours on our feet at Colonial Williamsburg, we were ready for food, and assumed we would be eating at one of the park's taverns. It turned out that the food options were either closed for some special event or closed because they were just closed. A very helpful park employee urged us to skip the park food altogether and head to the north end, where independent restaurants were serving better food at a reasonable price. One we had noticed before was, of course, closed Tuesdays, but when we walked up to Berret's we knew we had found the place. Our waitress Marnie, it turns out, was born on Long Island, but moved out as a child. The decor was perfect for getting us in a seafood mood, and I was quick to check out one of the many craft beers from the area. I ordered brie en crote with grilled shrimp and Donna got a crab cake with the obligatory grits. We always skip breakfast, so we had just enough room left to try the bread pudding with berry sauce. The food was, at all times, a treat for the eye and the pallet. A lovely experience."

"Big drinks...Big breakfast ...Big Sam's. We rolled in hot on New Years morning and were met with some top notch bloodies at the door. Although the place was busy, the big idea at Big Sam's to just relax. No rush. I did the waterman's breakfast which is three eggs, toast, hash pens and a gigantic crab cake. I would argue that it's one of the best crab cakes in Hampton Roads. Nothing fancy...just a giant perfectly prepared cake. Loaded with crab and grilled so there's a little crispy carmalization on each side. Delicious. Prices are very mild and the service is friendly. If you're not in the right mood to 'relax' then go somewhere else."

"We walked in around 7pm on a Wednesday and added our name to a waitlist for an outdoor seat. We grabbed a drink at their back bar and enjoyed the incredible atmosphere: live music and sunset views. Our server was friendly and attentive, she made great recommendations all evening.Around :20 later our table was ready. We got straight into entrees and went with the pork chop and the special: yellowfin tuna steak. Both were excellent. The tuna accoutrements (pineapple, bacon, and soy infused rice) stole the show and were incredibly decadent. The pork chop came with a thick crusty sear that was super flavorful. The thick cut was juicy and a large enough portion that I barely ate half before passing the remainder to my husband to polish off.For dessert we had the pecan pie. More of a tart than a pie, the pecan flavor was exactly what you'd expect with a bourbon ice cream that was a great compliment. The tart (crust?) was hard and a little difficult to cut. The pork chop came with a cheese bread pudding side that was amazing in its own right.Overall we had an amazing experience with a wonderful atmosphere. The perfect place to relax and enjoy a night in Duck."

It seemed as though the butter came directly from the freezer or frig because I could not spread it smoothly on my complimentary roll.The waitress came to my rescue... she easily swapped a bowl of butter from another table and it was all good.We also dined up front which had plenty of space to seat our party.I love it here! I had the crab cakes sandwich and it was delish..no fillers and being from Maryland.. that's impressive. Only thing I wished is that they would have added Old Bay in the mix. The ladies loved their dishes and we love the experience in dining on The Porch. Next time we are going to go to The Porch during dinner service. Bravo!"

"Waterfront restaurant in Duck, and certainly one of the nicest restaurants in the area. Certainly decent views of the sound coast, and at times, even some wildlife. Parking can be a bit tough, but there's a small auxiliary lot directly across the street.Wine and cocktails at this place are pretty decent. Their wine list is quite good, and they have some wonderful selections available. Appetizer menu is also quite good. For us, we had the bangin' shrimp and the whipped goat cheese dip. The goat cheese was tremendous, and a huge portion to boot. The bangin' shrimp was also very good. I wouldn't say it was spicy at all, but the sauce was quite good, and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. the batter wasn't too heavy, and the result was a nice light crisp. I think it might be a rice flour batter.For dinner, we had the NY Strip and the saffron seafood pasta. The pasta was absolutely tremendous! Sometimes you get a seafood pasta with an almost fishy taste, but not this at all. The homemade pasta was delicious and the sauce fabulous. The steak was a bit of a different story. The sauce was pretty good, but despite ordering it medium, i received well done. Dinner took a bit of time and i was really hungry, so i didn't send it back, but honestly, for the price they charge, that's unacceptable. A well done steak is a travesty; tough, dry, and tasteless. I really do expect better from this place.Service at this place was quite good as well. Friendly staff throughout, and easy to work with for reserving an eight person table.The completely ruined steak not withstanding, this place was pretty great! It's expensive, but you get some pretty great food, and I have to assume they know how to make a proper steak and just had a moment. In fairness, this is more of a seafood restaurant, and i had considered the shrimp and grits, so perhaps i should've gone with that instead. Anyway, this place is certainly worth a shot."

"The boil bags were amazing. I got the lobster tails and snow crab. Everyone else got shrimp and crab except my daughter. She got chargrilled oyster. She said they were to die for. The gumbo was also outstanding. The music was great. The staff great too! I have been in VB 3.5 years and just found this gem! We will be bag again. Oh and the check with drinks, 5 gumbos and 1 Cesar salad, 5 boil bags, the oysters and coconut shrimp came to $211.00. You cannot beat that with my boil bag having 4 lobster tails and a 1/2 pound of snow crab."

"First time driving out to Blue Pete's over the weekend for a birthday dinner and we had a great experience! Well worth the drive out to Pungo, in my opinion. Although they were busy, we were seated pretty quickly. We had a great server who was attentive despite being busy. The vibe is great! I love being able to eat on the water and they had live music which was good. If you're not a fan of live music while you eat, definitely recommend eating inside or checking the calendar before you head over there. The food was delicious! I had the mango mahi which I enjoyed but I did snag a bit of a crab cake from someone I was with and it was honestly the best crab cake I've had in the area."

"Very impressed! Their Cobb salad is huge and looks SO good. I saw a lady at the table in front of us order this salad and it was gigantic and loaded to the brim with ingredients. They also had some nice mocktails on the menu (appreciated by this non-drinker) and will be coming back for the salad and peach tea fizz! Yum! We stopped in on a bike ride and had a light lunch with live music over the weekend with my stepson before he moves away for grad school. Tear. We chose this spot because they almost always have live music at the center stage on the sidewalk between this and the bar across the street. As expected, on a Sunday afternoon - they did! Service was slow but friendly. It took a long time to get our food after our order was taken and our server basically didn't show up for 15 minutes after our food was delivered (by someone else) to see if we needed anything. We got a Cowboy burger which is a huge burger with BBQ sauce and cheese on Texas toast. I didn't try it but stepson said it's a win. We also got a basket of fries on the side which was huge for only $3.50 and a small cup of soup which rotates daily and was a delicious brisket stew. I got a small garden salad for $9.99 which I felt was a bit overpriced with only lettuce, onion, tomato, and crouton. They have a ton of burgers on the menu here and some inventive options. A bunch of handhelds which are sandwiches, salads, and entrees with fish. Also a ton of starters and apps. Overall, beautiful ambiance outside on the patio with live music and a view of the boardwalk and the sea and a much larger and diverse menu than I expected."

"Best little breakfast deli in the OBX!!! Me and my fiancé come here almost every morning every time we visit the outer banks, and the food is always amazing and not over priced like a lot of other places around here. We've also come here for lunch too, and i love their fried seafood baskets, i particularly like the fried oyster basket, they definitely give you your moneys worth in food. There's not really anywhere to sit inside since it's more of an in-and-out type of place, but they do have picnic tables right outside that we sit at when it's nice outside. The people working here are also always so nice and welcoming, which always makes us wanna come back too. This place is 10/10 and I rave about it to everyone."

We went before a show at Chrysler Hall, and our waiter made every effort to expedite our meal.We ordered the Japanese A5 filet, and it was perfection in a piece of beef. The shareable sides were more than enough to make sure everyone got some. Even though it was the dinner rush, the restaurant was warm and wasn't overly loud.It was the best steakhouse 15 years ago, and it still is today."

"I was worried when I saw such mixed reviews but we really enjoyed the food. The service was great also but it did take a while for our food to come out. We loved the cornbread bread service! Delicious! I had the broth based clam chowder and thought it was great. For my meal I had the fish taco app from the specials menu. It was burger night and my husband had the Frenchie burger and subbed the grit cake in place of fries and said it was all very good. My son had chicken tenders off of the kids menu. They were your standard chicken tenders so nothing to write home about there. Overall our experience was very nice."

I loved the baked macaroni and cheese from this bar.Finally the dessert bar is packed with everything your sweet tooth desires. I recommend the Baklava and Key Lime Cake.Every person in our party of 8 enjoyed every single thing that they got from all their trips of the buffet. The servers are extremely friendly and hard working. I think they work three times harder than you regular resteraunt's servers. Please be sure to tip these hard workers.This location opens at 3:00 pm, by 4:00 pm on a weekday in the summer you are waiting for a seat. Especially if you have a big party. I highly recommend getting there before 4:00 pm, especially on summer weekends."

Restaurant was busy, but not crowded, and the service was super fast.They start with the lightest, fluffiest hush puppies I've ever had, and they were great. The whipped butter complemented them perfectly.I got the "Pick Your Catch" and got the Crab Cake and OBX Shrimp. The shrimp was large, lightly breaded, fried and very fresh tasting. The Crab Cake was very meaty with a great blend of spices. My kids got the Chicken and Waffles, and were happy with them. Wife got the popcorn shrimp, and has happy as well. I tried some and it was yummyOverall, a good vacation dinner. Not sure if it would be a tradition, but ai would come again."

As I had more experiences at Lucky Oyster and the other area seafood bars, this became one of my favorites. Locally owned and operated, the Food is consistent, the drinks are great, and the staff was on it even when we came with larger groups. It can be a little busy, but it's got a "sit back, relax, and stay awhile" energy that doesn't make even the busier times feel that bad. Lexi was our go-to server - always a delight! I've moved across the country, but Lucky Oyster is on my list of spots I want to return to enjoy again during a future visit!"
