One of the best Asian store. This one doesn't have that distinct fish smell that you smell at other stores lol.Love that they have great deals on seafood! Recently, they had great shipments on Dungeness crabs. One of the only place you can pick the crab yourself!Today I came in and they had live crawfish in season. You can also pick it yourself to make sure they're not dead. It was $5.98/lb , last week was $1 more. They also have some great exotic snacks! Def shop here for all your Asian cooking essentials!

I've been a fan of Vien Dong since I shopped with them in their long-defunct Linda Vista store. Vien Dong Supermarket 4 is smaller than that one was, and it's also smaller than its sister, World Foods Supermarket on El Cajon Blvd.; than Clairemont/Kearney Mesa's 99 Ranch Markets; and than many other local Asian stores. But smaller doesn't mean less. I've purchased live shellfish at Vien Dong 4 - blue and Dungeness crab, crawfish and shrimp - along with spices and other supplies for multiple backyard seafood boils. The store's owner, San, has been helpful, to the point of giving me first look at boxes of crabs when they come in.Over the 10 years that I've patronized VD4, I've had a couple of problems. But when the store was at fault, they've always made things right, usually while I wait, which begs the question: were they really problems, or just delays? [NOTE: I don't really count getting pushed around by sharp-elbowed aunties as a problem; I have a couple hundred pounds on them, and I give as good as I get.]Anyway, the grocer's prices are competitive and I'm happy with their service, so unless I need something they don't carry, convenience wins, and Vien Dong 4 Supermarket is my Asian store of choice.

Vein Dong supermarket is my go to Asian market. They have all kinds of spices, sauces, exotic food products that you won't find at your regular market. Fresh sea food and a butcher meat area. If you need butchers to cut your ribs etc, they are happy to help. Helpful friendly staff behind the counter, cashier and meat/sea food area. Everyone is always happy when I stop by. It's a positive atmosphere. All sorts of vegetables you can ask for! Exotic fruits and veggies take part of a large area on the east side of the market. They sale 25-50llbs bags of rice for a decent price. The staff will even help you take it to the car if you ask. They sale liquor as well, from $45 up to $2,000-$3,000 range! If you're looking for special liquor this is the place. Plenty of parking but on Asian holidays like Lunar etc it gets soooo pack and on the weekends. I would go when they open at 9am preferably on a weekday. On lunar/new year, they have events outside in front of the store like dancing dragons and small food vendors. FYI- No large backpack allowed in the store. Accept major debit/credit cards and cash!

I love this market. I've been going to it for many years. Just bought a lot of seafood yesterday there and it all was good quality. I love the produce section as well.

Still the worse place to shop the day before Lunar New Year, always super chaotic with parking situation, no wonder the police station is located right next to it, security didn't do their job, only standing around and not directing traffic, angry customers parked in the middle of the road and blocking cars from backing up, people arguing with head security, while I asked other security to drive that customer car so people can move their cars, he straight up telling me to move it myself because he's not going to get into anyone else car, I felt like they don't get pay enough to do anything, I was lucky enough to drive away from all the chaos, next time I will take my business somewhere else

This place has been bustling for decades. Always so busy and a very large selection of fish and most of it looks decently fresh.Lines were quite long at the registers so I didn't stay very long. Parking is still horrible in this corner of the strip mall. Will be back at off hours to get some fish!

Vien Dong has been around for many moons. Vien Dong means "far east," and it is an appropriate name because the store offers Asian goods. I actually remember when there used to be a Vien Dong location in Linda Vista, which is now Thuan Phat. But enough on the history, and on to what brought us here.We were in the neighborhood to visit the restaurant Phuong Nga to grab lunch, but the wifey wanted to check this store out first.I expected a fishy smell, which is common in many Asian markets, but upon entering I was pleasantly surprised that the smell was more subtle than expected. So this market has a lot of Asian goods that you won't find at an American grocery store. They sell a wide variety of noodles like rice noodles, egg noodles, flat noodles, ramen, etc. You want fish sauce, plum sauce, Hoisin, oyster, chili paste, Sriracha, or black bean in chili oil? Meats or seafood? Chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, fish? Vien Dong has you covered! They sell fruits and vegetables that are unique to Asian markets, and some that I don't even know the English translation for. The produce appeared to be fresh, and it seemed to be well stocked. They also sell other Asian goods here like cookware, snacks, pick up and go foods, Vietnamese coffee, teas, and other drinks. The store could be cleaner in certain areas, and it could definitely use to TLC, remodeling, upgrades or whatever you want to call it, in other areas (such as the flooring).I can't comment on the service because we didn't purchase anything here. If we needed to cook up an Asian dish at home, and we were in the neighborhood, then this is a store we would visit.3.5 / 5 - Food Items and Goods3 / 5 - Service (probably average)2.8 / 5 - Cleanliness3 / 5 - Prices3 / 5 - Overall

My usual Asian grocery store where I can usually find everything I need in 1 stop. Your typical grocery store with butcher area. You can find all types of meats, fish, seafood, and a variety of vegetables that you normally wouldn't find other than in Asian grocery stores. They are the sister grocery store of World Food.
