Usmania Fine Dining offers a sprawling menu of Halal Pakistani cuisine, from appetizers and casual American options to decadent Matka stews (slow-cooked in clay pots), fiery curries, and refreshing mocktails. Our carnivorous gathering sought the server's guidance, resulting in a delightful exploration:Matka Gosht ($28): Mutton, slow-cooked to tenderness in a Matka clay pot, reveled in a symphony of tomatoes, ginger, garam masala, and chilies.Peshawari Beef Karahi ($25): The undisputed champion of our table, this dish featured boneless beef stir-fried in a Karahi (open wok) with a vibrant tapestry of tomatoes, ginger, garam masala, and chilies. For an exceptional Peshawari experience, look no further than Usmania.Usmania Mix Platter ($32): A captivating selection of meats, showcasing melt-in-your-mouth seek kebabs (minced beef), succulent tandoori chicken (bone-in), flavorful lamb chops, and boneless chicken pieces. The seek kebabs were particularly noteworthy, ranking among the finest I've encountered. While the lamb chops held their own, the chicken proved slightly less remarkable.Naan ($2): Pillowy flatbread, traditionally prepared in a tandoor clay oven, provided the perfect canvas for scooping up the aromatic curries.Usmania Fine Dining's spacious ambiance makes it ideal for large gatherings. The culinary journey, particularly the Peshawari dishes, leaves a lasting impression.

Here's what you need to know: this is a solid 3 star place. Food quality is serviceable (be ready for heartburn after - always), flavors can be very good on certain meat centric items, and service is always mediocre to stand offish. Ambiance is very basic and utilitarian. If you order certain things that they do well (Nihari, Chapli, biriyani, and matka gosht, and have the lowest of expectations with service or ambiance, you will be a happy camper and will consider it a winning meal. One of comfort and intense flavors, despite the heavy use of cheap cooking oil and heavy handed spices.Just don't go to Usmania looking for a date night or a light meal :)

We had never been to Usmania before and it's always been known as that family get together spot for desis, so I had high expectations, especially after their remodeling and updated ambiance. Unfortunately we were sorely disappointed. The service was absolutely awful for a fine dining restaurant - they didn't bring drinks out at all until we reminded them 20 mins in and even then they had an attitude about it and it took them another 5-10 minutes to bring over a can of soda? I noticed other tables having to do the same and most of the waiters stood far away with absolutely no interest in serving. Plus it took them about 40 mins to bring this 1 thing out, only for it to taste like something we could have made at home. It tasted fine i guess but the entire experience was just embarrassing, especially with out of town guests. We just wanted a light mid day lunch and this was sorely disappointing. Would not recommend at all, they really should take fine dining out of the name. Fine dining is a standard that should not be taken lightly, if u compare this to any actual fine dining place in the city, it fails dramatically.

Horrible service horrible food were served used food from previous day. No taste not Cooke properly will never go to these restaurants ever again . They are expensive for no reason. Like how can you prepare Karahi in 10 mints so that's means it is cooked previously long time ago. No fresh ingredients were served . Very disappointed with the service.

This is a Pakistani restaurant on Devon street. The decor and interiors are pretty! The place is huge with indoor and outdoor seating. They have a lot of menu items served in a 'matka' (clay pot), something interesting to try! The service was nice and prompt but like other reviews mention, the overall food quality wasn't great. To begin with, we ordered Matka Chai, which was pretty good and had a nice hint of saffron. Next, we ordered the Chicken Boti kabab entrée - tasted okay with good amount of spices. Also ordered Butter Chicken curry. It was pretty bland and way too oily. It had lots of artificial color and no taste at all. To go with the curry, We ordered Garlic Naan which was huge and tasty. The entrées were pretty pricy (~$18-20) and they do not come with rice or naan, so we had to order the naan separately.Lastly, we ordered the Matka Zafrani Pista (pistachio) ice cream with tiny pieces of dry fruits. It was also okay, seemed to have too much artificial color and flavor. The overall experience was okay, did not seem like a 'fine dine' place like the name mentions. It certainly was overpriced.

A good place for more upscale Indian. If not already implied by the name. Usmania is one of the many places on Devon Avenue in Rogers Park. Bhindi Masala is the best. There's lots more to choose from. Because of the name it's expected to be expensive. It's more of an upscale but still casual place. The entrance is kind of like an indoor patio it seems. After that, doors lead into the actual dining room. It seems like a big place, and there's always lots of banquets and stuff. It's about $14 for an entree. We got a few classic items, and found a few good ones. I got the Bhindi Masala. Th okra was kind of soggy. Other than that, it was okay. Tons of spice. Good upscale Indian. It doesn't include naan or rice with entrees, so you have to pay extra to get these. There's quite a few things on the menu for vegans and vegetarians.

Usmania Fine Dining was a delicious experience of Pakistani food. The ambiance is warming and has space for large groups indoors and outdoors looks like a very fun and unique vibe (too bad it was negative 7 degrees outside when I was there!). I tried 4 tasty selections and all were beyond satisfying. Our server, Rafee help guide us to our decisions:Starter: Charred BBq Shrimp skewer - texture and flavor were spot onThe rest were shared items:Beef kebabNehari - special dish of pakistan and their specialty at Usmania Fine Dining - this was such tender beef in a yummy sauce - made me smile!Matka Daal Makhani - YUMMY - I love Daal and the flavors and textures blended well with all of the other dishesI will definitely return to try even more dishes!

Usmania Mix (grill) platter 7/10Usmania was a good experience. The food quality was good. However, I was not satisfied with quantity of the mixed grill platter. 2/3 was chicken item. 3 pieces of tiny lamb chops and two beef kabobs. They tasted very good but for almost $30 I had more portions and red meat kebobs in other resturants, so I had high expectations.Makta Goat Birani 10/10Apart from some negative reviews about biryani, we were Not Disappointed with our matka goat biryani. It was very delicious. not at all dry. very flavourful and light. It will not make feel heavy or stuffed after eating. The amount of meat in that was also decent and very well cooked. They melted in my mouth.Parata 4/10Parata was a bit disappointing. I felt it was fried well all over as you can see in the picture.Service 8/10The mix Platter came fairly quickly, but our Parata and onion kulcha came after we were done with the kebob platter. It is nice and clean inside. Very Spacious, Staffs are prompt with requests and accommodation.

Came in for the first time and I was satisfied, I had ordered a Mutton Biryani and a garlic naan. The mutton biryani was good and so was the garlic naan. Definitely would recommend both. The service in the place was great, the waiter was very friendly, kind, and helpful. They don't come and check up on you but there is a waiter who you can call at any moment. There was a very calm Ambiance in the place and lots of space. They have a carpet, which could use cleaning, the plates look older, and the clothes used for the table could use a wash. This doesn't bother ME but it's something I thought was worth mentioning.
