You could honestly go to Un Bien, get nothing but rice and beans, and be perfectly content. They don't know how to miss. It's all hits and no flops. All slaps and no slops.I've tried just about everything on the menu at this point and I make no exaggeration. They focus heavily on the sandwiches, and my personal favorite is the chicken breast, but you can't go wrong with the popular Caribbean roast (pulled pork), classic press, or my second favorite, the steak. The prawns are also amahhzing, and they do NOT mess around on the spice (you choose the heat level). Per the theme here, the entrees are good too. They come with more meat than the sandwiches, rice, a superb salad, and their incomprehensibly good black beans...but you miss out on the orgasmic caramelized onions and perfect Macrina baguette that you get with the sandwich. Now, that's a painful choice and I don't envy you, but the good news is you'll have no regrets either way. When you're extra hungry, get a side of rice (and beans if you're feeling frisky) with your sandwich, then hold the sandwich over the rice as you eat. Now play a fun little game I like to call "keep stuff in the sandwich," which you will inevitably and repeatedly lose. Then when you finish the sandwich...you win! Because all of those beautiful drippings and droppings (plus them beans) have now assembled as a rice bowl, your second meal. Look at you! Also, the corn is a MUST if it's in season. Seriously though, play pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey with the menu if you want to, throw a dart, choose by favorite number, have your friend pick, have the chef pick, pick however you want but you're guaranteed to get something delicious. Oh did you want a gripe? Ok - a lot of the time they don't quite slice the sandwiches all the way through when they cut them and then you have to tear the two halves apart and they're already messy enough and then the stuff kind of squishes out the sides and they just get messier :( But you think that's enough for me to dock a star?! Ha! Think again, I'd eat that thing whole if I had to. Messiness is a small price to pay for glory, my friend. That one coworker keeps telling you Un Bien is sooo good. Yes, it's THAT good. Now go already. GO!

We got the Caribbean roast sandwich and the seared scallop sandwich. It was sooo good. The Caribbean roast was a little on the drier side because of the pulled pork but the sauce and grilled unions def made up for it. The sauce for the scallop sandwich was amazing. I loved the scallop sandwich but I wish there were more scallops. I feel like 50% of my bites had no scallops. It's a small place with limited seating. You order up at the window and then seat yourself. they call you when your order is ready.

While waiting for our secret congee order, I picked up a sandwich as an app!Service is super quick and food came out fast. The smoky chicken thigh sandwich was delicious! The chicken was so juicy. Every bite was balanced and scrumptious. This is definitely deserving of the #1 sandwich shop. It's a must try when in Seattle!

Atmosphere: 5/5Lively music playing! We went on a Sunday evening and had no issues getting a bench to sit at. They have outdoor seating in the front and a covered seating area toward the side. A plus is that they have a bathroom.Service: 4/5They were friendly! Nothing memorable.Food: 4/5I don't know the detailed history of this place but I do know that the owner previously used to own Paseo. The sandwiches were bomb! We only got the Caribbean roast, but I am curious to see how the other food tastes because they have a pretty large menu. If it's your first time here I would also recommend getting that to start. I wouldn't say that it's a life-changing sandwich but it's definitely a place to check out if you are visiting Seattle. The grilled onions were such a great addition to the sandwich. One downside to this sandwich is how messy it is - a lot of the contents of our sandwich fell out while eating, so it's not a meal you should try to eat in the car. Some bits of the pork were dry but the sauce helps make up for it. We paid approx $30 for two sandwiches after tip.Location: 5/5It's super close to Golden Gardens (I wouldn't say it's a walkable distance though). Plenty of street parking available.

AMAZING. I had seen this on a Yelp list of Best Restaurants in the US, so when I was in town visiting a friend, I insisted that he take me here. This was probably the best food I had during a ten-day vacation that included an Alaska cruise. I got the number 1, a marinated steak sandwich that was juicy and delicious beyond my expectations, it was just so good. My friend got the carne & rice and was shocked by how much food came with that modest price tag. He also got the corn which he loved. Service was quick and friendly, I want to come back here SO BAD.

Had lunch here today and the food was amazing!!!!!! Ordered the kids rice and beans and quesadilla. Got wifey the Caribbean roast dinner and I ordered the sea scallops in red sauce. The sea scallops was tender not over cooked and the red sauce was tasty. I only wish they gave me more scallops or bigger ones. The roast dinner was great as well. Pork was tender and flavorful. My son liked his quesadilla. Didn't have to wait long for our food. And there's not much seating but the area was chill. Would definitely go back if I'm back in Seattle.

This was our last stop in Seattle before coming back home! The sandwiches so yummy, the bread was toasted to perfection. The sandwiches were messy but in a good way! The service was friendly and attentive -and they recommended good selection of food. The patio/restaurant was kind of small specially since we were a party of 10 so it was difficult to accommodate all of us. If we ever again in Seattle we will be back!

Can't believe I haven't been here sooner. Delicious sandwich with an incredible mess - bring on the napkins because the meats and sauces are dripping everywhere. I couldn't put down The Press sandwich with its savory and tangy flavors and juicy meat. Walk up service window with an expansive menu, this is the perfect stop to grab a bunch of food for a golden gardens lunch or dinner hang. So many options for every palate - even vegetarian - you cannot go wrong with what you choose. High quality food. Ample seating. Reasonable prices. Definitely will be back!

I was super pleased with the experience here and so impressed they have the two high chairs!!! We had a mom, baby date and our kiddos sat facing eachother in the high chair! It was great. The food was delicious, I got the mixed plate. Water is available on the counter and napkins on the seats. It's hard to get a seat since theres only two benches. It's self serve like other Caribbean food.

Food is amazing every time. I always have to order the Steak Palomina to go when ever I am in Ballard. Favorite spot in Seattle for a steak sandwich. Their roasted corn in the summer though, oh man!
